so im also having issues with my 40D shutter button. and im thinking about getting it sent in also. is there a common maintenance service that they can run my camera body through? is it called anything specific? or do i just tell them “hey… look at my camera and fix it”?
anyway, i just got back from my “vacation” to seattle. here are some pix
my little rebel decided to come back to life. ive been trying to figure out whats causing it to freeze up once in a while. so ive just been going out and snapping randomly.
you can find 40D’s for that price, body only. you should consider the T1i or T2i if you’re looking entry level, and The entry level Nikons are good, but i’d steer clear of the D40/D60. that’s all personal opinion though

to me, “professional” means anything you get paid for. if thats the case, it can be almost anything. ive been paid while using my rebel XT + 50mm lens and that wont equate to 400 bux nowadays.
but like chorpie suggested, maybe get entry level SLRs because most of them possess “professional” features. the higher end SLRs will have the same features and then some.
Well I put professional in quotation marks because the camera I have, while it’s good, isn’t a quality camera for photographers. It’s a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS. I want one with the manual lens and my pictures to look like majority of y’all pictures. Basically a camera that’s good for both human and nature subjects.
Edit : I ust read everything after my last post. Thanks for the help guys.
any sub 1000 dollar camera will work fine, esp if youre learning. a good lens will go a long way while bodies will eventually get old and deteriorate (like my 350D)
lenses are expensive tho. just fyi.
Yeah, Ive notice on the lens thing. :wasted: Let me ask some of y’all this question since I haven’t really went thru this thread like that. If anyone of you have taken shots of people, what is your approach to get people to model for you?
haha. what do you mean? like working with a model? or just shooting people on the streets?
i do both. street photography is interesting because you dont necessarily need their permission to take their photo if theyre in the public eye. thats why you see papparazi get away with a lot of shit. teh reason why they do it is because they get paid for those photos of celebs from publishers. in this case, you probably dont wnat ot be asking for “permission” anyway. because youll usually get denied. and if they do agree, then all youre going to get are cheesy grins.
working with models is different. its almost like a business. so you have to be pretty professional about it. youd need a proposal and then an agreement of some sort, usually a model release is enough to keep you out of trouble. i dont post any of those photos up here because of model release rights. but you pretty much have to have a good idea to present a model and sell it to them and hope theyre interested. otherwise, theyll find you and ask you to help them instead.
Wear some fancy, expensive clothes and keep the price tags on for everyone to see. It’ll make you look rich and also make it seem as if you buy new clothes everyday and sometimes forget to take the tag off. Carry a folder with shots of celebrities and fake proofs to make it seem like you worked for them before. Walk near the person you want to model for you, casually flip through your photos, and “accidentally” drop your “portfolio”. That should strike a conversation and you can bust out the ol’ “Hey. Are you a model? Can I take your picture?”
The person should already be impressed by your stature and oblige your request. If it’s a lady, she should have probably stripped off her clothes in excitement by now.
It’s a bonus if you carry a tripod with you for timed shots. That way you can bust out the ol’ “Okay, for this next shot, I will stand behind you and cup your breasts with my hands.”
Haven’t posted in a while but here’s a shot from the other day. I’ll throw up more when I’m not stuck on an iPad. I’m no longer using my flickr account so I have to pull photos from my tumblr which is a little restrictive but you get the idea. I really only post on my blog nowadays which you can get to via the link in my sig.
Great shots as always, guys. You always make me want to do better (and upgrade gear, haha). I’m not sure if this is old news, but you can actually record video from any live view Canon EOS (when tethered to a computer). I would try this, but I have a 20D :-/
Anyways, to contribute, here are a few shots from when I went to San Diego a couple weeks ago.
I can imagine photoshopping some Jawas into this picture
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Also these next pictures is what happens when you’re happy the school year is over (I work for my local school district). I present you the Duck-tice League.
