Yeah, same here. I don’t want to spend a ton of money on food either. I still haven’t decided on what exactly I’m aiming for(body build) through work outs. I just try to work out everything. Whenever I eat heavy, it just feels wrong now.
I haven’t fully optimized mine yet but I try to spend about 20-35 a week on food. for like 10 bucks you can make some chicken pasta and have like 6+ servings and have a lot of extra ingredients. bananas are also hella cheap and my go to fruit snack. and there are waaaay more frugal techniques I could be doing. I think no more than $150 a month at max is alright.
Though it’s better to think of it weekly I think. Buy food weekly/maybe bi-weekly. Plan for your meals each week, buy what’s on sale, etc.
I really wish berries weren’t so expensive so I could put together my own yogury/granola/berry mix.
And spinach is indeed godlike. Sucks living in ghetto neighborhoods in chi, apparently they don’t carry spinach at the subways there because most people don’t ask for it.
 This is basically my diet and since I don’t eat junk food I kinda OD on fruits since they’re my candy lol. 100% apple juice is pretty cheap though like $2 for 2 liters. Beef and chicken are cheap too if you know what cuts to look for I can get 1lb of beef chuck cutlets for $4, 1 lb chicken thighs for $3, even seafood like 1lb of tuna or cod shouldn’t be more than $5 although most seafood especially shrimp and other meat like lamb is hella expensive.
I rarely eat out since I love cooking too much and eating at a restaurants rubs me the wrong way when I know I can bang out something just as good if not better for like half the cost. That being said there is something sexy about being brought food without any of the stress, prep, and time of making it yourself.
Pasta is generally bad for you especially if you follow food and wine’s “we don’t care if you die only noobs don’t add butter on top of drained pasta” recipes but it’s sooo cheap and tasty.
Food and Wine and asian recipe mags are a must for thrifty home cooks. I’m lucky enough to still live at home but I have to pay for my own food and I never spend more then $100/month and that’s rare I usually get by with spending $25 a week, Only expensive stuff I buy is specialty shit like lemongrass, coconut milk, curry paste, etc. And although I’m skinny I eat a lot.
Toasted sandwich bread+broccoli rabe+cheese+chopped garlic=cheap, filling, and tasty as fuck and fuck is very tasty FYI.
Also BJ vs Preppy shit is GDLKE definitely going to check out the other thread this week to see what happened.
lol we all avoid FGD to stay out of the stupidity, and then FGD comes to us and brings the stupid along with it
The lack of mention of apples in this thread makes me sad. Although as far as fruits go, Mangos are amazing. don’t know about mango shakes and mango flavored things, but real mangos are too good.
Reminds me that I gotta cook some country-style ribs tomorrow in the slow cooker; need to figure out what I’m going to throw in with the ribs and which sides. Chicken Alfredo tonight, ribs tomorrow.
wtf is wrong with SRK glitching out on me : /
Can you guys post Breakfast Lunch Dinner Snack in a 1 day period…Kinda curious what the hell you guys are eating with only $100 a month on food…
Took the dog for a walk and his desire to try and out-muscle me and dictate his path against my wishes might have resulted in a back injury for me.
I’mma sue him.
1 handful of nuts in morning+multivitamin
2 banana when I get to work
3 pb&j or salad or something for lunch
4 carrots or mozzarella stick before leaving
5 whatever for dinner: pasta/salad/sandwich/etc.
6 other snack like carrots/nuts/cheese/whatevs. put some hummus or PB or cheese on there.
granted I’ve only been doing this for a few months now and it could be more optimized. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight so far, about 30 pounds (though I forgot when it started). You can add other cheap foods/snacks/fruits in there. Sometimes making that pasta will have a LOT of leftovers to use for lunch the next day. I sometimes substitute or add bad snackfood in there too :x
i think it’s that damn site survey ad giving me glitches.
“breakfast”: 6oz of greek yogurt, banana
snack 1: fiber bar
lunch: turkey sandwich, raw broccoli, apple
dinner: noodles with meat
snack 2: peanut butter and jelly sandwich with milk
I can do it with 30-40 a week. It is easy to stick with something like this because it’s cheap as fuck, takes very little prep time, and keeps me alive while training.
Going out is expensive.
i probably just eat too much then haha
BF- 4 eggs w/ either 4 sausages or bacon
Lun - Salad w/ breast chicken strip
Snack - Almond nuts or sugar free jello or pepperoni sticks w/ cheese stick
Dinner - Steak w/ veggies or Salmon w/ veggies or Chicken w/ Veggies
Add in 1 diet soda, lots of Bottled water & thats pretty much what i’ve been eating the last 3 months…That’s at least $10 a day & you multiply that w/ 30 days, that’s $300…Once i get to a certain weight, then ill start adding fruits to my diet & fruits are hella expensive…
Get a Brita filter instead of bottles. I mostly only drink water, sometimes treat myself to some of that v8 fusion 50% reduced juice or half and half tea/lemonade lately, rarely have a soda.
If you can afford all that tasty sounding stuff, do it. Mmm, salmon and steak…
bananas are like a dollar for about 5 snacks. that’s pretty cheap.
where is my tax refund >.>
Salmon and steaks are great and healthy, but as you can see not very cheap. If you can afford it though do it. I need me an asian wife to go with my black gf.
$3.60 a pound is not cheap.
'member when GB use to be $1.88 - $2.24 back in the day.
if you’re getting the “meat tube” of ground beef then you’re nuts.
oh yea, 85>93 and ground chuck is disgusting.
ive gotten the buck fifty cube steak, do not recommend
When I was single I would probably spend about 300 dollars a month on food. Hit up that Food4Less every two weeks and stock up. A lot of people fuck up and spend a shit load more money because they just buy what they need for the day/night.
Now, we spend about 700+ dollars a month on food.
Breakfast: Honey Bunches of Oats, fat free yogurt, less than half a glass of fruit+veggie smoothie. Or sometimes an egg sandwich with turkey and cheddar.
Snacks: Fat free yogurt, honey roasted peanuts, bananas, apples.
Lunch/Dinner: thin bread turkey sandwich with cheddar+spicy mustard or some pasta with chicken. With OJ or fruit+veggie smoothie.
This is generally what I eat on days off. The worst things I eat, I eat at work. Nothing as bad as BK or McD’s though. Can’t stand eating that fitlh anymore. I hate that fat feeling you get in your stomach when you eat something unhealthy like that. It made me quit eating fried chicken for good. I gotta get in more vegetables though. I try to get in some basic salads in here and there.
Yeah, I could safely say a good 800/mo on food is average for me, but that’s three mouths to feed including myself.
My ground beef ain’t that much, its usually on sale. Fuck the meat tube, no homo. I need to start a family though, to take advantage of the costco membership.
Are you blind? I just posted above you fool and yes mangoes are godtier only clementines fuck wit them.
Breakfast: Usually just cereal and tea w/honey although sometimes if I have time before work I’ll make 2 sunnyside eggs with toast and hash browns.
Lunch: Sandwich (like the chicken, brocolli rabe, garlic, and cheese) or salad w/mixed nuts and juice.
Dinner: Asian sesame salmon, penne w/roasted asparagus in balsamic butter, thai beef w/basil and chilli, etc it depends on how much time I want to spend cooking after work.
Snacks: Fruits, yogurt, TORTILLA CHIPS W/HUMMUS!!!
I don’t drink much maybe once or twice a month if that and I eat out about once a week.
My one unhealthy indulgence is garlic knots my local pizza parlor which I worked at makes them fresh everyday and 6 huge ones for $1.25 is just too good to pass up.
A 1/2 lb of salmon or flank steak shouldn’t be more than $5 not really expensive but yeah more of a once MAYBE twice a week thing.
