SRK Competitive Pokemon Battling Thread: Logoghoul and White Shadow Win! Bye Gen 6!

I give it a month before everyone turns against the meta completely saying it’s horrible.

Going to see if I cant use the Hitmon trio to some effectiveness

caved in and played a few matches

genesect / thundurus / landorus / rotom - W / talonflame / empoleon

i wasn’t sure where to fit in mega kangaskhan. rotom used to be keldeo, but it’s not as potent without rain and even with the ridiculous secret sword it wasn’t fast enough without scarf or flexible enough without life orb for me to run it /_/ the addition of 2 grass/ghost types is annoying for him lol.

replacing rotom-W with excadrill, i guess scarfed? electric/ice can really put a dent in my team. rotom-W was neutral to elec and resist to ice, but still took 80ish% from life orb jolteon thunder bolt. gonna go with immune to electric/neutral to ice for probably a better time. the only relevant ice type is cloyster i think and he gets bopped by all the special attacks on the team.

there is absolutely no way you could like BW over XY, no way, with all the weather bullshit and it’s fucking high powered “lemme kill you in one fucking move” all the time

BWB2W2 was bullshit, i’m liking XY so much more but seriously, BW was bullshit

on the other hand, i miss DPPt, that was awesome

let’s chat somewhereeee

here
http://chat.efnet.org:9090/?channels=%23srkpoke&Login=Login

We have a Skype chat group, actually. Get Phantom Angel to add you.

Isn’t that the general discussion pokemon chat? Didn’t think it was too competitive battle focused.

Using a chat for matchmaking is the most efficient. Might as well make something easily accessed and etc.

If this doesn’t work out we can just use one of the less popular rooms on pokemon showdown itself [for PS players]

I dunno. Most of the time I’ve seen the chat it’s been talks about competitive Pokemon, not whether or not if we think Pikachu is cute. :coffee:

Pikachu is mad cute tho

Blaziken straight up dies to mega pinsir, talonflare, chandlure, probably azumaril and greninja provided he doesn’t get fucked on the shurikens, I’m sure there are others which also can do the job too.

With obsticles other pokes with priority can take him and with the threat of a ghost pokemon keeping it scared to high jump kick bulkier pokemon which resist fire also stand a good chance.

Of course sacrificing swords dance/baton pass/protect for more coverage may change these things a bit, but isn’t part of what is meant to make him scary his ability to either be sweeping at +2 or passing his buffs when hes almost spent?

Either way, haven’t looked back since going Mega Pinsir, that priority and bit of extra bulk make all the difference.

Good folks in this thread, give me a team to make, I’m bored with the ones I’ve made.

EDIT: Also, speaking of a team I’ve made, Geomancy+Pass with Smeargle too good.

Blaziken (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Swords Dance
  • Baton Pass
  • Flare Blitz
  • High Jump Kick

In the above battle, this is what I was running, I’m not even running protect. The threat of Blaziken killing off a wall is enough of a threat in itself.
However, this moveset forces you to play strategically.

Running protect is arguably worse if you’re running baton pass. The cost of playing Baton Pass Blaziken in a braindead fashion is a moveslot. Blaziken can scare out just about everything to the point where it doesn’t need protect. Base 80 speed is a pretty decent speed tier. If it was something like 70, then there is a reason to worry.

Mega Blaziken definitely doesn’t need protect because 10 more points of defenses and base 100 speed.

azumarill is the only 100% counter to blaziken, it is only 2HKO’d at best by any move blaziken runs and if he carries a choice band, can OHKO blaziken with aqua jet before blaziken can baton pass

talonflame can take a flare blitz or a high jump kick without SR on the field and can OHKO blaziken with brave bird before blaziken does everything, if SR is on the field, talonflame dies to HJK, also in some odd cases, if blaziken decides to carry stone edge then talonflame is not safe

chandelure is immune to both of blaziken stabs but needs to hope blaziken doesn’t get to +2 speed to BP away, also like talonflame, if blaziken carries stone edge, he’s fucked

greninja dies to high jump kick and after a +1 boost to speed, is outrun by blaziken, water shuriken doesn’t OHKO unless it gets 5 hits and even that’s not guaranteed when using jolly (which i’m assuming you will)

mega pinsir dies to flare blitz or stone edge, but can OHKO with quick attack, so only a revenge kill

slowbrow cannot stop blaziken from baton passing, all other sets are countered

slowking and jellicent can take unboosted hits but they are both 2HKO by a +2 HJK and have nothing to stop blaziken from baton passing away

the problem with blaziken isn’t KOing him, which isn’t that hard (80/79/79 defenses aren’t good at all), it’s the fact he does his job too fucking well, he provides the user too much of an advantage to win that’s really hard to stop outside of running certain pokemon (azumarill and talonflame, chandelure can’t OHKO blaziken with a choice scarf set), the problem isn’t KOing him, it’s stopping him from doing his job

Taunt.

let’s look at all the pokemon with taunt, these are all at 0 (or -1 in some cases):

Persian: OHKO’d by HJK, outspeed at 1 boost
Murkrow: 2HKO’d by both HJK and Flare Blitz and outsped
Mightyena: OHKO’d by HJK
Mega Mawile: Outsped and 2HKO’d by a -1 Flare Blitz, sucker punch does 43.1% max
Sharpedo: OHKO’d by HJK and will be outsped as blaziken is one boost higher, aqua jet doesn’t OHKO
Zangoose: OHKO’d by HJK
Crawdaut: OHKO’d by HJK but OHKO’s back with aqua jet, can revenge kill, is not taunting
Mega Absol: OHKO’d by either move, sucker punch deals 38.3% max
Infernape: OHKO’d by HJK
Kricketune: OHKO’d by Flare Blitz
Bastiodon: Sturdies HJK and can KO back with EQ, barely revenge kills
Chatot: OHKO’d by either move
Toxicroak: 2HKO’d by flare blitz, sucker punch does 21.9% max
Weavile: OHKO
Liepard: OHKO
Simipour: OHKO’d by HJK
Unfezant: OHKO
Darmanitan: OHKO’d by HJK
Zoroark: OHKO
Vanilluxe: OHKO
Haxorus: OHKO’d by HJK
Pangoro: OHKO

basically, the rest are OHKO’d by blaziken except for gligar, gliscor, steelix, weezing, skarmory, and a few others, they cannot taunt him without dying to him, they’re either OHKO’d or 2HKO’d by his moves, having no time to taunt, and besides, the pokemon he is going to send blaziken in on most likely doesn’t have taunt so the probability of him being at +2 is pretty high, he also outruns almost all of them at +1

Murkrow gets Prankster though.

You really hate Blaziken… It must have really shitted on your team.

I have beaten Mega Blazikens with a non-flawless (as in not a single 31 IV) Pikachu. It’s a threat, but its not some god-tier invincible threat.

I am just about done with this thread… It’s the same pattern- someone posts something unique or interesting, cue everybody’s favorite wet blanket coming in raining on the parade with “It can’t beat such-and-such common threat” or “This mon does it better”- I try to shine some box-breaking thinking, and we do the dance all over again.

I thought I was pretty tenacious, but this guy Mood is a brick wall reinforced with titanium plating…
*
Oh I’m sorry, that was a ‘personal attack…’ I’ll soften it up for you:

Golly gumdrops! Mood is really set in his ways! He’s such a welcome addition to the conversation! I enjoy his contrarian opinion, and hope to see more of it!

Hey! That was MY original Mega Blaziken counter! D:

Mandibuzz beats Blaziken.

High Jump Kick and Flare Blitz are 3HKOs.

It’s hilarious, even after boosting, Blaziken can still only 2HKO him.

If you’ve done prior damage to him, Foul Play does 65% at minimum.

I can agree there is only a small sense of risk reward playing Blaziken though, my prediction will usually be correct because Blaziken is a scary mofo.

If you stay in on a Blaziken, you get one shotted, but if you switch, you get boosted on.

Sure, Blaziken is not a threat if the opponent royally screws up. I’m sure I could beat my little sister’s Blaziken too with a Charmeleon. In the right hands, however… By itself it makes either Talonflame or Azumarill a necessity to every team, and you would be signing your own death warrant by bringing as little as one Pokémon it can set up on. If it’s unable to KO something, it always has the option to Baton Pass its boost to another Pokémon.
