You should know that Scizor is one of the most used Pokemon just because of that set.
This is gonna be a long post; My apologies in advance, guys…
See, that’s the thing… I don’t actually DO anything different against a Kangaskhan than I would against a Blaziken or anything else… I simply play my set strategy. The current team I have has Chesnaught as one of my main ways of dealing with physical sweepers.
Yes. Chesnaught. You read that right.
I utilize Spiky Shield to nab some precious contact damage on the Maternal Pokemon, combined with a Rocky Helmet Avalugg(that thing is seriously bulky, I’ve taken down Talonflames with it) and Leech Seed/Body Slam. My Chesnaught also has Quick Guard for trolling Priority users like Scizor Bullet Punches/Fake Out/Gale Wing’d Brave Birds/Acrobatics.
So basically, I take damage maybe once every three turns and then Kanga has to deal with constantly hemorrhaging health every turn, especially if I already have Toxic Spikes down(I usually do). If I don’t have Toxic support, then I use Body Slam to get the paralyze on it(a riskier endeavor)
I essentially beat it by not really DOING anything…
Of course, these guys lose against a Fire Blast/Flamethrower Kanga, but I honestly have not seen anyone run that outside of myself and BullDancer… Even then, it’s only going to hit me with that if I predict badly/get outpredicted, but since no one knows what the hell my team is doing until its already too late, I win that duel the majority of the time.
I’m not saying its not a top level threat, for it most certainly is. After a single instance of Power-Up Punch, Kanga rips through most teams for free, whether you have Ghost types or not. I’m also not saying I’m some godly master of Pokemon*(I am most certainly not, as to this day, I have yet to win against White Shadow and a few of our other players here)*, but I’m no slouch, either.
I just don’t feel like we should be eliminating things from the game before we can get our hands on all the mons/moves/items/etc. and try them out against each other… This was the main reason I was so adamant about keeping M-Gengar and Blaziken around, as I knew Kangaskhan was gonna be a problem with them gone.
This is the same shit that happened last gen, just on an expedited timetable… Smogon refuses to learn from their past and turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to peoples’ pleas to let the metagame develop naturally. That’s all I’m asking.
well, outside of jellicent, nothing we gain from the bank is actually going to stop blaziken, so there’s that
mega gengar gets perish song from pokebank, making it dumber than it already is
mega kanga gets seismic toss and wish from pokebank, making it dumber than it already is
that is why smogon isn’t waiting because even if they do get suspected, it’s pretty much 100% guaranteed that they would be banned, they are currently unhealthy for the game as a lot of us have done thousands of calcs just to see what is reliable
let alone, showdown has a pokebank metagame and these 3 are causing a lot of complaints, more so than all other pokemon combined (although i’m surprised that mega kanga was the 3rd one chosen and not the first one), at least there’s a discussion about banning it instead of outright banning it, so they are discussing it, but most of the anti-ban arguments have been pretty poor and lackluster
i don’t know think wifi has a rated battle system like showdown does, there is also a lower concentration of good battlers over wifi compared to showdown so yea, your pokes will work better over wifi than they would on showdown without the constant influx of high ranked battlers like you would on showdown (i’m not saying there aren’t good battlers on wifi because there clearly are, just saying the likelihood of you finding one on wifi when compared to showdown is much lower due to the lack of a rating system), so yes, gimmicky stuff will work better against certain players
i’m not saying there’s anything wrong with what you’re doing, what i’m saying is that we want to be a competitive group and i feel we should try to make it so that when we battle each other, we don’t get to roll our faces over the buttons and win (pretty much what megakanga does)
also, megas are balanced around the VGC (4 on 4 doubles), not for 1 on 1 which is what a lot of us like to do
@white shadow I had some plan cancellations, I’m around if you wanna duke it out.
edit: how do you tag people with spaces in their name!?
Stunfisk isn’t that bad, but not that good either.
Just super fucking annoying, static is a really good ability. He has good defenses to boot, just extra weaknesses that Ampharos doesn’t have.
Stunfisk comes with pain split but those weaknesses though.
He would make a good special wall if your opponent doesn’t having taunt.
Stunfisk (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Static
EVs: 252 HP /252 SDef / 4 SAttack
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Eerie Impulse
- Pain Split
- Toxic
- Thunder Wave
Eerie Impulse drops special attack by 2 and there are no moves in the game bar nasty plot that raise special attack by more than 2.
He basically can beat every special attacker in the game and cripple physical sweepers on the way out(in theory, haven’t tested this guy out).
Pain split+Paralysis sounds annoying.
If you’re not running Eerie Impulse, you might as well run Rotom-W or Jellicent because at that point you have better options that can run the same set.
If you’re going to use a pokemans that no one thinks of using you gotta use the unique things about your pokemon.
Otherwise, you’re like the scrub nigga that plays a character that has less options just because everybody is using a better version of your character.
EDIT: Oh and yeah, toxic is for the special attackers, and twave is for the physical heavy hitters.

Genesect must go first. Kanghaskhan is less of a problem(and I mean much less) than Genesect. As long as Genesect is legal, there shouldn’t be a banlist at all, the more things get banned, the less things will be available that can kill that thing. I’d love to checkmate a scarfed Genesect with a hidden power fire from Mega Gar. You just don’t know lol. It’s not smart to start banning stuff when something in ubers is allowed to run around with no issues.
Also, I just thought of a set with Mega Blaziken. It’s still cookie cutter bs but still it’s probably not a thing because people are Adamant(no pun intended) about running Blaziken with Swords Dance.
Blaziken (F) @ Blazikenite
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) Or Jolly Nature(+Speed, -Sp.Attack)
- Flare Blitz
- High Jump Kick
- Protect
- Baton Pass
Simple idea behind this set: Anything thing that Blaziken can’t handle, you pass to another teammate.
what does protect do for you? you don’t need it for scouting as baton pass does that already, it just let’s the opponent set up, it’s honestly not worth it
use swords dance to be much scarier
genesect would not solve the problem of mega kanga being too strong, it just would’ve delayed the inevitable, both are getting banned anyways (there is no way in freaking hell genesect stays legal)
Pain Split on Stunfisk probably isn’t the best considering its above-average HP.
@tolore I’m Marlz online, I’ll meet you there soon.
for those who play on showdown, we should get together and chat/play

By any chance would it be usable on say, my iPhone? I know I can watch replays just fine…
i don’t have a smart phone so i couldn’t tell you, but if you have internet browsing you could try it out shrug ranking barely matters really, some people scrap accounts as soon as they lose so they can try to get high on the ladder but i don’t care enough. just playing to learn. got a bunch o games on my account.
it doesn’t work on a phone, i tried already, sadness
Pokemon Online works via mobile device if I recall correctly…
no pokemon simulator has a phone app nor works on a phone
if they did, you’d probably never hear from me

Well now I know what half the thread will be working on for the next month.
uhh I don’t know how to count that battle! I wish the time had given us like an extra 30 seconds…
For posterities sake, the game SAID I won. But I mega didn’t deserve it, and depending on damage calcs it would probably have been a draw(assuming your arcanine was life orbed).

According to the game you won because you had more HP I guess? GGs You must’ve had the Heart of the Cards because those 3 Protects in a row and waking up, wow… That was a helluva battle, probably the best I’ve had in the XY gen.
Definitely worth a watch.
Good Game :china:

I wasn’t even cognizant of the time lol. This is the first match I’ve had in 180+ where it came down to time limit. And yeah, I accept the loss. Man I’m exhausted. X_x
yeah it was super intense, I got mega lucky with that triple protect, I couldn’t break your dang wall combo!
