SRK Competitive Pokemon Battling Thread: Logoghoul and White Shadow Win! Bye Gen 6!

Later in the week is better for me anyways if you wanna try and get your match in, otherwise I have a window tonight from 7-9 pacific time(assuming I don’t have work late), tomorrow/Wednesday super late(like after 10 pacific). Thursday/Friday any time after 6:30, and saturday/sunday whenever.

Ok 7pm Pacific is 10pm Eastern, so I’ll battle you tonight around that time.

Oh, and I’m taking early sign-ups for the rotation tournament now.

I’ve never played a rotation battle but okay. Sign me up!

Uh-oh. You might wanna study up.

I’ll try to explain Rotation Battles as best as I can right now for you.

Rotation Battles:

Rotation battles were one of two new battle modes introduced in Gen 5. Rotations Battles operate as so; first you send out the first three Pokemon in your lineup. For now we’ll say we sent out Arcanine, Breloom, and Crobat (in that order.) Arcanine would be your lead Pokemon, and the other two would go to either side of it, like so:

                           Arcanine (leading)

               Breloom Crobat

Right now Arcanine is in play, meaning he can attack and be attacked and is the only one of your Pokemon that can attack and be attacked. But let’s say your opponent led with Azumarill and you predict a Waterfall incoming. You need to get your Arcanine out of there, correct? In the bottom half of your screen (if you choose fight) you should see two little buttons that signify turning directions; one going clockwise and one going counter-clockwise. If we choose the clockwise one it will bring up our Breloom’s movelist! We hit Spore and your Pokemon will switch places like this:

                         Breloom (Switched in)

                  Crobat Arcanine

Not only will Breloom instantly take Arcanine’s place, but it will also use Spore in the same turn, putting that Azumarill out of commission. This way we instantly have an advantage. But beware; your opponent could predict you were sending in Breloom and Rotate to his Venusaur who not only eats the Spore, but Sludge Bombs you.

As you can see, Rotation battles are strongly about prediction. Entry hazards do not play a major role in rotation battles, as rotating will not activate them (Fuck you Stealth Rock, etc.) If a Pokemon of yours is knocked out, you’ll have to switch in one from your reserves though. Rotating also does not erase boosts or debuffs you may receive (AKA if I swapped in my Crobat and used Confuse Ray, that Azumarill will be confused even if it rotates out. It will have to actually switch to get rid of it. On the other side if I have my Breloom Sword Dance and then rotate it, it will keep the boost unless I actually switch it.) You will basically need a strong Three-Mon core that can cover each other’s weaknesses well enough to lead with and a Fourth Mon to bail you out of a situation in case you need to switch it in (Assuming it’s standard 4v4.)

Notes:
You cannot Rotate and switch. If you Rotate the Pokemon you Rotate to must attack.
Switch-Forcing Moves do not force rotations.
You can not Attack and then Rotate. You also can’t Mega-Evolve and then rotate. You can, however, Rotate and them Mega-Evolve and attack.
Pay attention when you’re going to Rotate. I have almost lost battles because I’ve rotated to the wrong Pokemon and also because I used the wrong move upon rotating.
If a Pokemon has an ability that activates upon being switched in, it won’t activate if it’s Rotated (If you lead with a Mawile and Rotate to T-Tar, Mawile will activate Intimidate but T-Tar will not activate Sand Stream Because you technically did not switch it in.)

(As a side note, Battle Maison (and Subway) Rotation Battles involve picking the option that will screw you over the least because the AI WILL read your moves. Fuck that all Eeveelution team that cheated me out of a streak.)

Sign me up.

Sign me up too, I never tried Rotation Battle Competively. Also, how does the move “fake out” work in rotation battle?

Good question. Basically if I rotated to a Pokemon and used Fake-Out it would work as usual assuming that’s the first time I’ve had that Pokemon use a move. Otherwise it wouldn’t work.

Thanks for the info Bious. I was looking around and all the stuff that I was reading sounded hella shady.

I might want to do some practice Rotation Battles.

if i can get a team, i’ll do it but the likelyhood of having a team seems very slim at the moment

Still working on it. I went and traded the only Chlorophyll Bulbasaur w/ Giga Drain I had and I trying to get another one.

I’m down for some Rotation Action. Sign me up!

PO-SAW IS REEEAAAAADDDDY***

Alright i’m around and ready to rumble whenever you are!

lol rotation seems soooo random. It might be fun ill probably get wrecked but ill try it.

If I ran singles every time it’d get stale and I’m pretty sure not everyone is ready for a solid Double (or god forbid, Triples) tourney right now, plus with PokeBank on the horizon that’d be a headache to balance out.

What happened? I tried initiating twice and it got canceled?

Wern’t they updating the 3DS last night? The connection must’ve been down for that.

I’ll have to practice them, but sign me up for the rotation battles as well.

When’s the deadline? Depending on how Rotation battles work I may have to make a new team…

yeah strange, I never saw you on or received invitations. TOnight and tomorrow are bad for me unless you’re on pretty late, thursday/friday I can do the same thing, after 6:30 pacific.
