Who is this Genesect? I never played Black/White so I have no knowledge of any of the Gen V pokemon.
Everybody seems to talk about Genesect as this godlike pokemon. Is he a starter? A legendary??

This thing.
It’s an event legendary.
Also, can someone help me figure out a possible set for an Eviolite Dragonair? I’ve been wanting to use one for the longest time but I’m not sure what to put on it.
And no, I’m not going to use Dragonite.
An event legendary…
WHY THE HELL is everyone all afraid of this thing then? This shit only came out in an event, it’s not like everyone has one.
Plus it’s a LEGENDARY. It’s supposed to be stupid good.
Genesect isn’t a legendary story wise though and isn’t Hydreigon the gen V psuedo? I didn’t play Gen V but I thought they are just an army of modified kabutops
a lot of people have event legendaries, his BST is only 600 so he’s supposed to be good, just not mewtwo levels of good, he just has all the right stats he needs outside of his speed stat (base 99 is pretty trollish)
also, kyurem and regigigas are pretty shitty legendaries, as well as a good amount of the trio pokemon
also, some of us play on simulators where everyone has access to anything so he’s pretty stupid there as well
I would pay cash money for a legit jirachi
I have one in Gen IV, but I have no clue how to eventually get it into Gen VI
The same goes for Celebi and Mew.
poke transfer?
anyways, i’m gonna show you guys a new defensive duo that has been rock solid for me, like way better than i thought it would be
Trevenant @ Lum Berry
Harvest / Careful
252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Spe
Will-O-Wisp
Rest
Shadow Claw
Wood Hammer
and
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Sand Stream / Sassy
252 HP / 180 SpD / 76 Atk
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Pursuit
Ice Beam
These two can switch into each others problems at will. I go with Lum Berry on Trev so he can literally give no fucks about status without always having to Rest up. I started Trev off as a SubCurse set with Sitrus Berry, it also had Horn Leech over Woodhammer for more recovery. It was a fun set to use but just didn’t support ttar and the rest of the team as much. Then went to a Leech Seed set with Lum berry which was better but still lacked that it factor. Finally, decided to use Will-o-Wisp and Rest and he supports everything I need him to. I was still using Horn Leech but then realized that it’s pretty unnecessary when Lum Berry + Rest gives me free full life recovery anytime I want (basically), so Wood hammer was added for that extra oomph. Tyranitar is pretty standard, my team doesn’t need sand stream as Ttar is the only poke that benefits from it but setting up SR is a must. Those three moves are very good in the current metagame hitting stuff like Aegislash and Gliscor for SE damage (no free switch-ins). He’s also there for that must needed ghost and dark resist (as those are seriously hard to come by).
This duo has some problems with pokemon like Scizor, Gengar, Aegislash, and even TrickScarf Rotom-W (i’ve only seen rotom-h outside of rotom-w but any other set of rotom-w gets demolished by trev) but for the most part, it’s a very solid defensive duo that needs very little help to succeed.
Magnezone and Talonflame are among two pokes who really support this duo with their great revenge killing needs and having those few resistences to help with switch-ins. I also use megablastoise and garchomp as an offensive duo that are a bitch to switch into (on top of having some bulk) but who you would use is up to you.
I made someone quick the pokemanz from the trevanant set for being gimmicky and outside the box
I really like that core. Solid defensive typings that totally support each other and cover the other guys’ weaknesses well. T-Tar is always a bitch to kill, and Trevenant was kind of underrated, but its finding some steam now. Harvest/Lum/Rest is just diabolical… that’s some shit I would do.
As I was reading, I was thinking, “Magnezone would love these guys…” and there you go mentioning it as teammate… Good shit, Mood. Good shit…
Ok. So I’ve been working on forming this team for a few days now and I have them all set up. Took them into battle a few times and it doesn’t seem like I’m doing too well with them though, so I’m trying to figure out where I’m going wrong. Here it is:
Chesnaught: Brave
Spiky Shield
Bulk Up
Leech Seed
Hammer Arm
Blaziken: Adament
Blaze Kick
Hi Jump Kick
Protect
Flare Blitz
Lucario: Adament
Blaze Kick
Bullet Punch
Swords Dance
Close Combat
Gallade: Relaxed (I’m pretty damn sure this thing’s Nature changed when it evolved for some reason)
Destiny Bond
Shadow Sneak
Psycho Cut
Close Combat
Mienshao: Naughty
U-Turn (With regenerator)
Drain Punch
Bounce
Hi Jump Kick
Sawk: Lonely
Earthquake
Subsitute
Close Combat
Retaliate
As you can probably tell, the theme is fighting Pokemon. But I don’t seem to be having very much success with this team and I can’t really pinpoint why (besides the obvious challenge of handling an all same type team). Do you guys think there are some better Fighters I could switch out for some of them? Maybe some different movesets? I’m at a loss.
Get rid of Blaze Kick on Blaziken… PLEASE . Replace it with another coverage move or Swords Dance. I think Baton Pass would work well for you too, considering what I’ve seen during our battles.
All those Pokemon besides Chesnaught can’t take hits for shit… You might want to get a dual-screener for defensive support, or something with Toxic/Will O Wisp.
Well, I had Toxic on Chesnaught instead of Bulk Up, but I figured Leech Seed would be a better pick with Spiky Shield and Bulk Up giving me a lot more defensive options. Can Gallade learn any screen/reflect moves?
Also yeah, I’ve kept Blaze Kick on there for so long because if I put Flare Blitz on him, all of his moves would have potential to do massive damage to myself. Been meaning to change it but I always only remember in the middle of a battle.
Honestly, an single type theme team is one of the most difficult teams to win with due to shared weaknesses…
First off, what are your goals with this team? Who’s your main guy you want to set up for your win condition? Also, your movesets are too linear-- Just because everyone is a Fighting type doesn’t mean that you need to have Close Combat on everything. How are you going to deal with Fairy/Flying/Psychic attackers? You need a Rock, Poison, Dark or Ghost attack on a lot of these sets for coverage.
One other thing I’d point out is assigning roles… Everyone on your team now is just some variation of a sweeper-- you need a wall to tank hits so you can pivot to someone else when you need to switch. A Thick Fat Hariyama could help, as well as Toxicroak with its Poison STAB and Sucker Punch to help fend off some of the guys that would prey on your weaknesses.
This type of team would probably fare better once the Poke Bank opens up and we can get access to the Musketeer trio-- Terrakion and Keldeo would really help shore some things up for you.
i’m really like trevanant, it’s awesome
lumrest is so damn good, says fuck you to status while keeping him healthy at the same time, harvest let’s him keep the action going
for blaziken, bullet punch is useless on him as after 1 boost, he can only be beaten by priority anyways replace it with swords dance for that real threat, use flare blitz over blaze kick as you will miss some 2HKOs otherwise, especially at +2, don’t worry about the recoil when you’ll fuck up half the enemy’s team after a +2 before you die
and look at that, i got a compliment from po, did hell freeze over? just kidding, i wanted to use trevanant since his shiny is real badass and i just happened to look at his and ttar’s typing and said, “they cover fucking everything” so i played around with it and the team’s been awesome
My goal was to make a team where every member had the potential to do MASSIVE damage, with enough diversity through secondary types and the like to be viably defensive. Blaziken and Chesnaught are probably my go-to guys on this team. And yeah, I wasn’t sure how to set up a lot of their movesets. I’ll have to construct their diversity more carefully.
Hariyama was a consideration of mine, I just wasn’t sure how good he was. And I feel like Lucario is so damn slow for some reason, the only move I can get out without getting OHKO’d first is Bullet Punch…
Alright so now that I am out of the comp, I was wondering if I could get some team advice. This is my current team build:
http://www.marriland.com/tools/team-builder#801|1120|746|1182|720|1059|
Multiscale Dragonite paralyzes and shuffles the opponent, and basically the rest of the team is supposed to reap the rewards. Togekiss is probs my favorite bro and has good synergy with dragonite. Gengar has Hex. Machamp gets a good boost and paralyze pairs well with his dynamic punch.
The last two are kind of just filler roles, I don’t really know what to do with them. Excadrill has rapid spin and roserade is for fairies and dropping spikes. I think I could replace both of them with a utility cloyster with rock blast, icicle spear, rapid spin and spikes and fill the last spot with something better.
Any criticism is appreciated
@Dometopia: The link doesn’t show your team, but from what you’ve listed, you’re missing checks or revenge killers for a lot of common pokemon. Aegislash, Talonflame, and Greninja are the first few that come to mind. After Pokebank, Thundurus and Sheer Force Landorus are going to be huge problems as well. I think some faster pokemon like Genesect or Protean Greninja will help a lot to clean up those threats.
@Dometopia, if you don’t have a priority move, shell smash cloyster can sweep that entire team(from what I see in your post)
trev/tar sounds cool, i should try it out. i like tar but he isn’t outstanding. has a hard time with all the azumarils and rotom W’s running around. trev really covers those.
anyway i’ve just been running half solid half gimmick teams. gastrodon/sap sipper goodra (because all the other sap sippers get wrecked by poison, so venusaur just sludges away)
btw here is my gimmick talonflame set; expert belt: brave bird/u turn/overheat/filler. filler has been random between sword dance/taunt/roost/willowisp/hp Ice to randomly hit gliscor.
overheat hits a lot of things super ridiculously hard in the area they weren’t expecting. 130 with STAB and expert belt/SE is enough despite having a poor special attack.
I don’t really LIKE tailoring a team for specific problems, it just feels like I am playing for everyone else and not myself.
That being said Machamp does have bullet punch(its neutral I know but most cloysters don’t run with white herb that much anymore). I was actually considering swapping out machamp for someone else too but hes such a bro
