From what I see, competitive Pokemon is somewhat like Poker/Mahjong; Good players minimize all the luck based factors and it comes down to good reads and decision making.
On top of emphasis of team synergy doesn’t mean you have to rock the top tiers to get a good team and enough variety to use whatever playstyle and make it rock if the team synergy is solid enough. Though the game is still new so there’s no true meta game out.

How do you guys feel about AR/Pokesav? Because eventually an AR will be out for X/Y, and I actually have one for B/W :lol:
IIRC, a lot of people here preferred AR at some point unlike the battles I had at Smogon DDP. As long as they are legit, I think AR is great. Saves TONS of time and frustration, but then again some people wanna do it the old fashion way. Nothing wrong with that.
Pokesav’s fine in my book. As long as everything is legit, I see no problem. Though I guess some people will have a problem with it since the IVs are perfect, but that’s never really raised issue unless someone found themselves in a pretty crucial speed tie (i.e. Both opponents have a Timid Max Speed Gengar, only one’s IV is 23 while the other’s 31.)
maybe you should start off with an obviously banned list and some clauses that everyone can agree on
like for obviously banned: mewtwo, lugia, ho-oh, kyogre, groudon, rayquaza, deoxys-N, deoxys-A, dialga, palkia, giratina, giratina-O, darkrai, shaymin-S, arceus, reshiram, zekrom, and kyurem-W
and for some clauses: OHKO, sleep, freeze, evasion, moody, same species, and evasion moves clause
we all know those aren’t for competitive battles but something to start off wouldn’t be so bad
We can’t even obtain any of those Pokemon right now save for Mewtwo, so that’s nothing to worry about. Cover legends and such are pretty much in a class of their own though, I’ll agree there.
In regards to Blaziken, funny thing is Azumarill can actually counter it now since it was retyped to Water/Fairy. It can at least switch into it now and threaten with Aqua Jet, unlike last gen where it got destroyed by a +2 High Jump Kick. I’m gonna try training one now.
yea, i’m seeing more and more things capable of stopping blaziken, i also think zygarde could possibly stay in, it’s stats aren’t that good
I got a lapras with a neutral nature. I’m thinking max hp and a lot of spA/spD. I might give it ice beam, thunderbolt, and something else. Thoughts?

Do you want a Bulky Tank of Lapras? Or a potential Special Sweeper?
I want a sweeper but I don’t want it to be OHKOd. I think it’ll just be kinda unorthodox. I’ve been thinking about Sloking as well but idk what for.

Slaking is meh outside of Double Battles.
But I’ll be straight with you on Lapras. It does not have the Speed to be a sweeper. And its Ice Typing does not help that cause. You’ll be Revenge Killed with the quickness if you’re lucky. You can make it a bit offensive based by splitting SpA and SpD EV’s, but it’ll still be more of a Specialized Tank rather than a Sweeper.
A Sweeper needs two things to be successful. Decent speed and great attack stats. Lapras has neither. Her Attack stats (both of them actually, though she has a better Special Movepool) are solid but with 60 Base Speed you’ll be beat to the punch every time.
But if you still want a Sweeper…decent Set would be T-Bolt/Ice Beam/Psychic/Surf(Hydro Pump) or T-Bolt/Ice Beam/Psychic/Rest with a Chesto Berry
