aegislash is plenty good. has multiple good sets and great stats and typing.
greninja i think will fall a bit when more pokes come in. it has good speed/spAtk and stab on everything with protean but won’t be able to take many priority hits. if it doesn’t OHKO it probably dies.
it’s ghost type, and they introduced that ghost types are immune to shadow tag/arena lock/magnezone trap thing. i’m not sure if it extends to trapping moves like fire spin or mean look yet
but i would assume yes, ghosts can switch out of mean look, based on what that one hex maniac NPC says in game. not sure about fire spin / etc though.
but Metagross/Jirachi/Bronzong/etc are still locked away.
one fimal thing about species clause. What fucking difference does it make? enforce it or don’t I give up. Either way, who actually uses 2 of the same pkmn? who here is REALLY going to use both porygon Z and 2 or Doublade and Aegislash anyway? you’re either going to have a real big advanatge or (99% likely) just be easier to KO.
Ghosts can switch out of partial trapping moves like Fire Spin and Infestation as well. Aegislash can switch, but its still gonna eat a Pursuit either way.
LOL @ Statistics already… Ninjas just have to assign numbers to everything. Game isn’t even a month old yet, relax…
You can if you want to, they both have poor physical defense, and its a redundancy. If your opponent has something that is anti-Blissey, then it is also anti-Chansey.
Running two Pokemon with similar jobs is generally not the smartest thing in the world because it’s a slot that could’ve been used to place something else on the team that counters a different threat.
In fact, the Choice trick maneuver ruins Blissey or Chansey completely, or a fucking Garchomp that it can’t paralyze. A taunting Gyarados would also cause some problems to Blissey and boost right in its face. Blissey and Chansey also cannot help stop a Cloyster Shell Smash sweep among a whole lot of other bullshit in the metagame.
It’s generally a bad idea to run two Pokemon with similar movesets/properties on the same team, because it creates an inconsistent team that dominates some teams, but is completely unable to win against others. Especially when you fight most of your opponents ‘blind’ with no knowledge of the members of their team before the match. It’s very nice to have a counter(speaking of, that reminds me of something gimmicky that you can run on a eviolite Chansey with EV’s in Defense) to something that you didn’t expect.
What do you guys think about the possibility of allowing Ho-Oh and Giratina into our metagame? Out of all the pokemon traditionally considered Uber, they seem like they’d actually fit in rather well in OU.
giratina seems a tad ridiculous with it’s 150/120/120 defense spread and solid attack stats. I don’t really play ubers so don’t know what its move pool looks like. Ho-oh’s stats seem a tad ridiculous also, but 4 times rock weak is always something to consider. Though sacred fire and re generator seem pretty nuts.
Ho-Oh has such well distributed stats and an awesome movepool. He has high special defense and while his defense may be average, this is covered by the fact that his signature move has a 50% chance of burning. He can have any functionality from wall to mixed attacker and his 4x weakness to rocks(takes 50% on switch into stealth rocks) is mitigated by the fact that he learns recover and also has the regenerator ability.
Rock is a common offensive type and there are alot of Pokemon that could easily OHKO or 2OHKO him, and he helps keep the Aegislash and Doublades(or that Blaziken fella if he isn’t running Stone Edge) under control, but he still seems a little too strong. Although all of what I’m saying here is theory fighter, I’d predict him to be a little overwhelming for the current metagame, but he’s definitely worth giving a chance. He’d have to be proven not to be overpowered by testing.
As far as Giratina goes, there are better Dragons, point-blank period, if you’re a dragon and you’re not particularly fast/strong and you don’t have lots of useful resistances/lack of weaknesses, you’ll be overlooked. He’s quite bulky and has a solid movepool, but if you’re using him as a special attacker, then you’d rather be using Hydreigon or the Latios/Latias twins.
I’m sure that Giratina would make the cut into the normal metagame as a solid top tier.
EDIT: @Tolore It’s attack(s) are 120 not its defenses
