Sleep Clause basically means that if you have already put a Pokemon on your opponent’s side to sleep and it is still sleeping, you can’t put another one to sleep, else you automatically lose. Rest is ever counted because it’s self-afflicted and you always wake up 2 turns later. So if you put a Pokemon to sleep and the opponent uses Rest with another one of his Pokes, it’s fine.
Evasion and OHKO clause should be added too. Moves like Double Team and Sheer Coldd add an arbitrary amount of luck to a game that’s already pretty haxxy enough as it is.
Not sure I’ll enter, but I’ll ask in case it applies to someone who is: do Eevee-lutions count as same species? I assume no given the Gardevoir/Gallade example.
In all seriousness however, its fine if you guys want to ban that stuff, but they have counters too… If someone wants to waste time trying to boost Evasion/toss out super-inaccurate attacks, I say let 'em, but whatever.
I think Sheer Cold should be allowed because its distribution leans to the worst pokemon in the game(not only is ice the weakest type defensively, but Sheer Cold is distributed towards some of the weakest pokemon).
I agree with the evasion clause and sleep clause however, but give Sheer Cold a chance but banning it to oblivion.
Oh also if i can add to my question above someone said if I wanted to use Charizard on my team I would have to make it work with other pokes. Assuming it is Mega Charizard X what other pokemon would I need to make it solid.
I am also in for the tourney depending on the date.
they did in gen IV but they weren’t in gen V because of the different typing, i mean i know it’s smogon and all, but they are each tiered individually
evasion and low accuracy moves are different beasts
when you lose an low accuracy move, you are taking the risk of missing that move, you know it’s there but it’s still the best move at your disposal (focus miss, stone miss jokes aside), you take the risk, the opponent still has to fear the move, there are both positives and negatives for you (more power but chance of missign)
when you use an evasion move, you are forcing that risk onto the opponent, so when you use an evasion move, there are only positives for you (you get an increased chance to dodge a move and force the opponent to use weak ass moves just to beat you), seriously, forcing the opponent to use swift, magical leaf, aerial ace, etc is not fun, those moves are weak as shit
do you really want to play against a minimize blissey? minimize gives you +3 in evasion, which i think puts 100% accuracy moves at 60% (the same as thunder)
is that really what you want?
fuck OHKO moves, they’re overcentralizing as shit and completely ruin the counter mindgames and turns everything into shit
moody, while really fun to use, is not balanced, moody smeargle is broken, especially if it gets that evasion boost first, you can’t win against a team who has 1 moody poke, i know you hate smogon and all but this was the only thing to be 100% banned, universal agreement on ban. evasion, skymin, nor OHKO moves can claim this. it’s really dumb and it should just not be used in competitive fights
sleep clause means the opponent or you can only force one of his pokes to sleep, rest is not affected by this, i’m not sure if relic song is affected by this either (since it only has a 10% chance of giving sleep and is the only attacking move that induces sleep)
there is no way to implement a freeze clause over wifi
brightpowder should fall under evasion clause, sand veil and snow cloak should not
fuck same item clause, that limits creativity
since lati@s is not available, soul dew clause is useless (let alone we haven’t found those items yet anyways)
same species is pretty self explanatory (6 blazikens is really, really stupid)
also, do remember, since the tournament would be played at level 50 since i doubt everyone has a team of 6 at level 100 (it’s really hard to achieve that right now), it takes 8 EVs to increase a stat by 1 and speed tiers are all screwed up, so have fun with that
Minimize isn’t a problem anymore considering Stomp, Steamroller, Dragon Rush, Flying Press, and Phantom Force all get perfect accuracy and double power on anything that uses it. Go ahead and argue that nothing uses those moves-- I’m sure Hawlucha doesn’t want to use its signature move with dual-typing of two of the best offensive typings in the game on anything
Double Team has more potential to be annoying, but you need to use it three times to get the same effect as Minimize, leaving you many more opportunities to counter/stop it.
Roar and Whirlwind never miss now, there’s Haze, Clear Smog, Psych Up, Snatch, Taunt, and a bunch of other moves/Abilities that either directly counter or make it really difficult on someone dumb enough to rely entirely on Evasion to win, but go ahead and argue like its still Gen I-II and there isn’t a laundry list of Pokemon/Moves/and Abilities that make Evasion just another gimmick/strategy like everything else.
Same thing with Moody mons-- Just like Blaziken you know exactly what a Moody abuser is gonna do-- Protect/Sub/move/move even easier if its Smeargle- Spore/Baton Pass/filler/filler…
You can’t stop that, after all the things I just rattled off? Of which you should really have at least one of those moves on something, unless letting something Swords Dance/Dragon Dance/etc. with impunity is your idea of playing well.
I’m cool with the clauses, though I don’t really care either way. Try to Double Team and you’re getting STAB+Adaptability +6 Aura Sphere’d… Try to Lock-On>OHKO and you’re getting set up on then swept… Try to Spore my whole team and that shit is getting Magic Bounce’d right back. There are counters to everything, but I wouldn’t want a tournament filled with those tactics exclusively… That wouldn’t be any fun.
evasion and sleep can go to hell. I don’t particularly see any reason to ban one hit ko moves, that’s the one smogon thing I’ve never really understood the reasoning behind.
