steel ghost is a great typing. it resists a lot and is immune to 3 types; one of steel’s weaknesses [fighting] has no effect [unless they have scrappy/etc]. it’s main weaknesses are ground, fire, and now dark and ghost because of the steel resistance nerf to those. still, it has shadow sneak to beat any ghosts that try to switch on it/revenge kill it, and will usually pack sacred sword to cover normal types that are immune to that as well as dark types which would probably beat aegis otherwise.
the standard set is kings shield, sword dance, sacred sword, shadow sneak btw
it has high defenses and shadow sneak, so it can switch on a resisted move or whatever, boost up with swords dance, and then go for a sneak or sword for big damage. kings shield is a great move that lets it essentially protect and lower the atk stage of its opponent by 2 stages, so physical attackers are almost certainly forced to switch out on a successful kings shield.
aegis’ weaknesses are gonna be special attackers in general, especially those that can resist shadow sneak and can outspeed sacred sword [or hopefully survive a sacred sword] because king’s shield doesn’t affect them as much.
Pssst… Bulldancer, stop throwing Blaziken counters and checks at this guy… Clearly his Blaziken has 6 moves and is always at +2 Attack/+2 Speed.
Smogon says Blaziken is clearly uber, so no one else knows what they’re talking about and haven’t been shitting on Blaziken(Mega or not) with stuff like Pikachu…
Aegislash is broken, too… Because, you know, Taunt/Burn doesn’t severely cripple it and its not like everyone is using the same KS/SD/Shadow Sneak/Sacred Sword set and build, so no one knows what it can do.
I beat a Mega Blaziken with Delphox today. Reflect+ Fire/Fighting resist is pretty cool. 'Ken lost 80% + to a Psyshock with minimal Sp. Att investment. Took itself out with Flare Blitz, lol.
Can’t wait to roll with an optimized team.
I think Fire/Psychic overall is just a great type for coverage. Psychic is neutral or better against everything except itself, Dark and Steel, and Flamethrower hits all of those at least neutral (and super effective against Steel of course). I think the only type combinations you wouldn’t be able to hit at least neutral (assuming Flamethrower and Psychic are your only attacking moves) are Fire/Dark, Rock/Dark, Dragon/Dark, or another Fire/Psychic. And none of those typings are very common.
And in most of those cases you can cripple them with Will-o-wisp.
Blaziken doesn’t need to run Shadow Claw to get good coverage, especially since you lose out on kills otherwise trying to just target Chandelure (if this thing still got Shadow Tag, Blaziken would be fucked), Jellicent (who we can’t get yet) or other random Psychic types like Slowbro or Delphox.
That being said, besides those hard counters, Azumarill, Talonflame, Sash Alakazam, Dragonite (even better if it’s Multiscale isn’t broken. Just Dragon Dance then E-speed), other powerful priority users like Breloom, Conkeldurr, and Aegislash (with some prior damage), and the almighty revenge killer Ditto, all do great jobs at checking Blaziken. And it’s not like they’re obscure checks that you’re running solely for Blaziken either, as they’re all very good Pokemon outside of that.
People think Blaziken is still a problem this gen? He’s a threat, of course, but no nowhere near the level he was last gen. There are a lot of other things to be worried about.
I wish Pokemon Bank was available sooner. I wanna use my EV trained Snivy already
Also, what’s the link to the IV calculator? I’m gonna be conquering the E4 soon, and once I’m done that I’m gonna start breeding a proper team. I usually never bothered breeding for IVs, but with all the stuff they added to make IV breeding so much easier I think now’s a good a time as any to start.
