it’s way different than a gyarados, gyarados has to spare a move to buff his speed, blaziken just has to exist
you’re playing bad people if they always protect/swords dance first turn, using flare blitz or hjk first turn deals a good amount of damage
he doesn’t need to set-up to win, he’s stupid and when the metagame is given time, we’ll probably see how stupid of a poke he really is (i’ve done the calcs, at +2, he 1-2HKOs everything, at 0, he 2-3HKOs everything), gyarados can’t protect himself while boosting his speed as well, he also doesn’t have the 2 move coverage blaziken has (nor do those moves have anywhere close to the power that blaziken has)
if blaziken doesn’t protect on the first turn and uses flare blitz, your poke will probably die next turn to either a hjk or another flare blitz if it hasn’t died already, you can’t switch into him with anything that isn’t chandelure or 252 HP azumarill, and azumarill must be holding a choice band to beat blaziken
you can’t stop blaziken from setting up when he doesn’t have to do anything to set up, he’s already strong as fuck
let’s put it this way, you’re only using your predictions as to why you’re able to stop blaziken, what if you predict wrong and blaziken wins…he probably sweeps your team as you now have nothing to stop him, this is the biggest problem
you predict right, you stop blaziken, he predicts right, you lose the match
Any Pokemon can sweep you if you play badly. From Garchomp to Salamence to Tyranitar, which are all huge threats, but I don’t see anyone calling for banning them(oh wait, they did ban two of those, the other one is the unofficial mascot, so it gets to stay)
Everything has a weakness. Its your job to exploit it and beat it. Stop relying so much on numbers and calculations and use your head to get around things also. A High Jump Kick isn’t worth much if I use Protect/switch in a Ghost type and watch Blaziken take itself out the match.
I’m through arguing this, though. Shit’s going in circles. Numbers are God and being flexible/thinking on your feet is frowned upon in favor of rote team archetypes and pre-determined probabilities based on damage percentages and standard movesets.
No wonder everybody flips their shit when they get critical’d/fully paralyzed/hit in confusion… It doesn’t fit the parameters…
garchomp, ttar, and salamence usually have to lose a moveslot to set up, blaziken does not
garchomp in gen IV had 52% usage at one point, he was dumb
salamence was fine, he took effort to take down but he didn’t destroy everything, once his biggest competitor was banned though…he had nothing to worry about and wrecked havoc
tyranitar isn’t anywhere close to being broken, nor has he ever been, he’s really good but has to rely on low powered moves to deal damage, he’s great at setting up but he’s weak to everything under the sun (ground, fighting, water, grass, bug, fairy, and steel), he’s really good but no where close to being overcentralizing
blaziken basically made mincemeat of battling in gen V, he has no counters only checks and even then, he gave no fucks about them, and now that he gets BP? even if he gets the one speed boost to pass, that guy will probably wreck your face
blaziken isn’t using hjk if you have a ghost on your team (and any ghost that isn’t chandelure is 2hko’d by a +2 flare blitz anyways), the existence of blaziken forces you to run azumarill AND talonflame/chandelure just so he doesn’t obliterate your entire team and romom-w does a great job at beating all of them
he makes it too easy to perform well, it’s basically pick him and then get 6 guys who destroy his counters, there doesn’t have to be synergy there, no strategy outside of using blaziken to pound your face in, that’s it
As much as I would love to agree to this, if I have to pick a new team to counter one powerful threat instead of something I can improve on in my gameplay (Edit: or picking something to help my current team with the threat) then something is wrong.
Yeah I am of the same mentality, but I’m not the type to jump the gun on a 2 week metagame. We’ve barely explored all the items breed pools and hidden abilities to warrant a ban on anything other than the obviously broken shit.
Speaking of those numbers I’ve seen tossed around that site a lot of it seems like conjecture if anything. How the crap can they produce a formula that show if something dies in two hits or not
I really was happy to finally use chandelure but nooooooo they changed it DW ability. WTF Gamefreak? Once again their choices on such things is ass backwards.
This is a case of cool pkmn and type but shit ability.
Right? After I swept shofu with Aegislash and checked on his stream the next day, the amount of requests for Honedges with good IVs and natures was unbelievable. People saw me chatting and were messaging me asking my spread, if Brave is better than Adamant, asking me to GIVE THEM my Aegislash for a good IV’d Poke or some legendary, etc. Come on now.
shadowtag chandelure would have been too good. it has 3 immunities, which is too crazy.
aegislash is currently the be all end all physical pivot. there’s ways to beat it for sure but at what lengths will you go? switching on it can be pretty dangerous since it will probably swords dance lol.
Isn’t Malamar the counter to Aegislash? Topsy-Turvy laughs at Swords Dance, and his ability means King’s Shield will raise its attack. I haven’t trained one yet, so this is theory.
It’s sad how people bandwagon. Aegislash is definitely is a threat, but people should realize that it was Ninjanuity’s great reads that scored her the victory, not just the gimmick itself.
I just found out an essential member of my future team doesn’t exist yet in the game entirely. Back to the drawing board… sigh
