SRK Competitive Pokemon Battling Thread: Logoghoul and White Shadow Win! Bye Gen 6!

Didn’t you say a while ago that Blissey > Chansey this gen due to Knock Off being somewhat popular?

i thought so but after some playing, i’ve had way more problems with chansey than blissey, unless you knock off it’s immediate bulk is really good to tank neutral hits better than blissey can

(I’d agree that, surprisingly, Eviolite Chansey is more problematic than Blissey, at least in terms of walling shit. She’s doubtless at least slightly worse at passing Wishing than Blissey to due overall lesser HP though.)

My surprise at that was kinda shown in the second-to-last match I posted with the Rain team a couple of pages, though I probably could have killed Chansey without Eviolite pretty easily if I had remembered/realized that Heal Bell had healed Dragonite’s burn as well. Even without Eviolite, Chansey can be surprisingly sturdy on the physical side (and promptly kill your ass with Counter if it has it).

It also helps that, perhaps in part that it is so powerful now, most users of Knock Off are extremely obvious and thus Chansey’s not going to stay against them, making her overall more bulky than Blissey until a Knock Off (or Trick) happens (if it ever does).

Also, despite saying that Conkledurr is dumb-looking, which he is, that was an informative enough write-up Mood4food77, so thanks.

We can battle sometime this week. I don’t know if I can be online in 3 hours. I’ll try though.

Forgot to mention that if I do get online, I will post on this thread then.

Why do people keep quitting on me? I’m the one making all the hard reads. If I fuck up once my whole shit falls apart. I should be the forfeiter.

Ya my bad I thought EQ would do more to Blissey but dat ho too fat. Looking at it thought Fire blast still can do 40% to max spD blissey my god the Zards have some crazy power.

I still think Blissey > Chansey though there are better things if you are looking for neutral coverage at least blissey sures up the special side. Also Knock off is everywhere and on a shit load of pokemon lol.

(People on simulators have always been particularly quick to quit in general, though PokemonShowdown does seem to be rather…rife with it.)

That said, the guy didn’t forfeit nearly as early as I was expecting him too given the amount of kvetching I’ve witnessed people do over the even slightest setback that causes them to ragequit. He pretty much lost as soon as he let Umbreon set up on his ineffectual Mega Venusaur set, not to mention the guy’s team was pretty weird in general (move-set wise). He at least said gg before he forfeited; most people who forfeit don’t say that if they say anything (respectful) at all.

Oh, this reminds me, since I am on my laptop, I figure can just directly post these:

People on PokemonShowdown need to stop picking Ubers if they’re going to suck at it or, at least, stop putting up shitty replays

Non-Ubers matches
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/vgc2014-86548846 - Shadow Tag might be even more stupid in doubles and triples matches.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-86546415 - For the most part, a rather good match.
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-86588603 - An amusing ending to this one.

Noted. No pressure. Whenever is easiest for you (provided it’s still reasonable for me, which it should be).

That said, you should probably just PM me in general as well (if you can easily do that…which you probably can since pretty much everyone’s desktop is better than mine). [/guilt]

I don’t wanna be the “Stop using _____, _____ is better” guy, but…

I think you should stop using Thunder Wave on Heliolisk, Glare is better.

I saw a guy run that once. Ragequit after I Skill Swapped and turned the strategy against him.

Yeah, don’t rip off Mood4food’s gimmick like that…

I didn’t even realize Heliolisk could learn Glare… Interesting.
I need to spend more time with the less popular Kalos mons…

Well really it’s a matter of trading a Ground/Volt Absorb immunity with a Ghost immunity.

Im open to any suggestions. I just started using heliolisk anyways but I doubt I have the optomized set.

Why is glare the optimal choice?

You can paralyze Garchomp

It now has perfect accuracy and can paralyze Ground Pokemon.

wat

It can’t paralyze Electric Pokemon. They’re immune to Paralysis period, just like Fire types are always immune to Burn, even from Scald.

Derp moment. :xeye:

Edited.

(I’ll admit that due to all my fussing over making one as late, I’m sort of tempted to “borrow” Skye1’s above Sunny Day team. Alas, I really do fucking loathe Togekiss and I’m already using non-Curse Umbreon on another team anyway, so…)

I too was surprised to learn that Glare has perfect accuracy now. I actually didn’t learn of until I was looking at Heliolisk myself about two or three days ago. I remember using Glare with Arbok or something back in Gen III or Gen IV and being disappointed by its imperfect accuracy (given my horrible luck with anything that can miss).

As I imagine you are using Solar Power Heliolisk Syke1, especially since you’re using Parabolic Charge as I too planned to, I’d personally go with Glare over Thunder Wave on Heliolisk if you want paralysis at all. There is not only the benefit of what Zekira G. Drake pointed out, which is pretty damn huge, but also the fact that Ground types are going to switch into Heliolisk a lot more than Ghost types are in most instances, especially if you make it now that you have Dark Pulse. Given also that Ground types already resist one of your attacks in Parabolic Charge, there’s no point in letting them obviate half of your move set, especially when Garchomp and Mamoswine and Dugtrio (oh my) can be huge offensive threats and it can potentially paralyze Gliscor before it gets its beloved Toxic Orb BS going.

That’s just my opinion though.

Not sure if this was a reply to what I had said about Knock Off or just a stating a fact, but I just want to make it clear that I wasn’t disputing Knock Off’s popularity–quite the opposite in fact. I was just saying that most of the present OU users of Knock Off are extremely obvious despite the fact that quite a lot of pokemon have always gotten Knock Off:

  1. Conkledurr - Always has Knock Off.
  2. Bisharp - Always has Knock Off.
  3. Sableye - Almost always has Knock Off.
  4. Mandibuzz - Increasingly has Knock Off in addition to or to the exclusion of Foul Play.
  5. Crawdaunt - Not OU, but always has Knock Off.

And so on and so on. I can understanding getting hit with Knock Off from Donphan or Tentacruel or something that doesn’t always have it, but a lot of pokemon, especially given the mimicking nature of humanity, are pretty obvious about what they have, Knock Off included.

Not to mention even without Knock Off you wouldn’t want to stay in on a good majority of those pokes as Chansey.

I was responding to Mood. WOW crawdaunt not OU? The disrespect for my favorite lobster. Have to run him more now after this going to show you guys why he is Ubers. My point with knock off is its almost unavoidable those pokemon force people out and someone has to take the hit and a lot of times your mega can’t so your wall has to which is a spot chansey takes up. She can’t do that unless you want to throw her away so its inefficient.

One note is I always use knock off for my 4th slot on tentacruel that shit is money. You have sludge bomb and scald so toxic isn’t that necessary anyway and if they try to block you they won’t like it.
