(Blegh. I really need to replace this dinosaur of a computer…)
I’m still in the process of “collecting” matches where people don’t outright forfeit because one thing goes wrong for them. That or a bunch of crits don’t happen on either side. I swear, I think I’ve already had more crit hits in just the past couple of weeks than all of my time playing with Generation III and IV, combined, on Shoddy.
And don’t even get me started on how Scald’s burn rate seems to come with a built in Serene Grace…
(That said, interaction with some inevitable assholes aside, this version of the simulator is pretty exceptional. So thanks for getting me into it, you guys.)
@Mood4food77: Ah, right. Probably. I keep forgetting that Life Orb’s recoil is exempted by Sheer Force since Sheer Force doesn’t exempt any other recoil, which is kinda dumb–that Life Orb is exempted I mean.
@xlxlxlxl: Looks like an interesting team. I’m guessing that the “imperfect” IVs indicate this is an in-game team of yours? Also, what r00ster22 asked.
@Skye1: …Who is Jay Z?
@FreezingCicada: Well, Lapras has great HP and decent Special Defense, though I’m not sure it makes all that great of a Rotom-W “counter” even with Assault Vest, Water Absorb and Freeze-Dry just because a) it’s still weak to Electric, b) it needs to 2HKO or else Wash just flees or Rests or Pain Splits the damage and c) this is especially problematic since Lapras is slower than a goddamn washing machine. It could work, but if you really want to give Rotom-Wash the middle-finger with an Assault Vest user that can (probably) kill it relatively easily, than just use Assault Vest Lanturn with Volt Absorb. I say to use Volt Absorb so that Rotom-W can’t Volt Switch out and since Lanturn is still resistant to Water without Water Absorb (unlike Electric, which it would otherwise be neutral to without Volt Absorb).
Lapras could work though. It just tends to have the above issues and has more weaknesses than Lanturn on the physical side, Earthquake aside. I did see and fight an interesting Lapras that used Weakness Policy and Rest/Sleep Talk/Freeze-Dry/Scald to exploit those weaknesses though…
(Thinking about it more, Water Absorb Cacturne and Water Absorb Jellicent with Assault Vests are probably better at being able to kill Rotom-Wash without fearing much either, though they’re not outright “immune” to his attacks like Assault Vest Lanturn [or water-absorbing Gastrodon/Quagsire/Seismitoad] is. The former “fears” Will-o-wisp if physically oriented, though it also gets Energy Ball off an equally high Special Attack to ruin laundry and the latter isn’t ever getting OHKO’d by anything non-Choice Specs Rotom-W throws at it even before Vest. Jellicent also gets Giga Drain, Hex (fuck Rest) and Scald, so…)
I’m not sure you can make a “good team” with the two, not to tier whore or anything. You could probably make a good team with one of them, but both having the same type weaknesses and roughly stats while not being exceptional is already a handicap; part of this handicap is not being able to use Mega Zombie Venusaur since you already have two Flying and Psychic (and Fairy) weaknesses. Still, we were just talking about Assault Vest and they both do have above average Special Defense, so…
Off the top of my head and by looking at Pokemon Showdown’s Pokedex, I’ve come up with this. Don’t blame me if you get your ass kicked using it.

Hey, look at that, I accidentally comply with the Item Clause as well, though feel free to use Leftovers on Jirachi. I originally had Leftovers on him before remembering both that his newfound weakness to Dark and that he’s pretty good at scouting status for the others, especially since Rotom-Heat is doubly immune to status now; in your face, Rotom-Wash.
I’ll explain my reasons for these move sets briefly–the 0 Atk IVs are because of Foul Play:
Hitmonlee: Of the three Hitmons, Lee has always been the most suicidal one even before they gave it Reckless and we all watched it killed itself by missing the subsequent Reckless Life Orb High Jump Kick. Since we’re trying to use two Hitmons one team, we don’t want to throw away one of them immediately if we can avoid it, which we can. So Hitmonlee becomes sort of anti-suicide lead who gets to kick Galvantula, Smeargle, Cloyster and other sashes leads in their damn faces for the KO. Fake Out breaks Sashes and whatever follows breaks faces, especially with Unburden helping Reversal outrun everything but priority.
Hitmonchan: Assault Vest Hitmonchan is pretty self-explanatory. The SDef EVs chosen should hit 300, meaning it effectively has 450 SDef with Assault Vest on. Use whatever fourth punch you wish.
Jirachi: Resists all of the two Hitmons weaknesses and makes up for their slow speeds with Thunder Wave as well as being able to “renew” Hitmonlee’s sash and Hitmonchan’s general health with Wish. The few Speed EVs are to ensure you don’t ever get trapped aganist Magnezone since it outruns Magnezone’s max Speed by exactly 1 point; if Magnezone still hits you, then you know it’s Choice Scarfed, meaning you get to U-turn into Landorus, Hitmonchan or Rotom-Heat for “free”.
Rotom-Heat: Speaking of a Rotom that isn’t a fucking washing machine, I figure that I’d push the Rotom that I’m currently using, though my current EVs and set are different than this. Still, they both make use of one of the major advantages Rotom-Heat has over Rotom-Wash, mainly being able to hold Flame Orb to Trick whenever wish. Any physical attacker that’s tricked (that lacks Guts) makes Hitmonchan’s job with Assault Vest easier. Just be careful of Tricking pokemon like Conkledurr and Goodra given how often they carry Assault Vests and given the former can have Guts. Thunderbolt has more power still despite its slight nerf while Discharge has a better chance of helping Jirachi, though it does conflict with Trick.
Starmie: A Rapid Spinner or Defog-user (or Magic Bounce pokemon) is unfortunately kinda “needed” on almost every team in my eyes due to Stupid Rock, so there you go. I decided to pick Starmie over Tentacruel for once, partly because my current team theoretically gets slaughtered by Gravity (and is made uncomfortable by Mold Breakers with Earthquake [read: all Mold Breakers not named Mega Ampharos]). Anyway, pick whatever moves you’re comfortable with here.
Landorus-T: I’m also of the opinion that every team needs either a Flying Pokemon or a bulky Ground resist (read: Grass or Bug type actually resists Ground) or generally physically defensive just because Mold Breaker will kick your ass otherwise. Earthquake is pretty much literally on every team and Excadrill has high speed, high attack, STAB on Earthquake and access to Mold Breaker, so…
I’ve never used Landorus-T myself, partially because I like Gliscor so much, but Landorus-T(iger)'s Intimidate makes everyone else’s lives easier. Just try not to switch into Bisharp unless you want to die horribly or think you can force it out/faint it without dying to Sucker Punch.
Landorus-T also comes with Stupid Rock, like Gliscor, but also comes with stupidly high Attack, unlike Gliscor, so…yeah. I just copied that set from Smogon to be honest, though it’s the only one; you could probably get better stats for Starmie from them if you care.
Here’s the Gliscor set I was going to suggest since Toxic conflicts with Jirachi wanting to be a dick with Thunder Wave-Iron Head hax and Rotom-Heat wanting to Trick or potentially paralyze people:
Clint (Gliscor) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP/ 4 Atk / 252 Def
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Protect/Taunt/Knock Off
- Stone Edge/Ice Fang
It could potentially use more Attack, especially depending on what you pick (if you use him).
P.S. No, I still haven’t seen The Avengers or really any Marvel movie except the first Iron Man. Still, I couldn’t resist the names. [/details]
