I installed a Fujimoto F108S valve to replace the oil drain plug on my BRZ so I could make quick oil changes. Itās leaking very small amounts of oil⦠I think I didnāt torque it enough or maybe I need to replace the gasket or maybe I need to cry in the corner.
I only torqueāed it 45 degrees⦠I think it was meant to be torqueāed 90 degrees but the thing wouldnāt budge after 45. Thereās no oil leak after I leave the gym or go for lunch but where I Park at night, thereās some oil there.
Kinda skimmed over the aftermarket quick change fitting thinking it was a regular boltā¦did it come with an instruction sheet showing the torque specs @āTekno Virusā I donāt know about that fitting so find what its recommended and Iām 75% sure you should fit it with an oil crush washer/gasket.
The gasket is fine actually. The valve is leaking through the outlet meaning the seal on the seat is not holding. Itās only leaking at night so that means the elastomer inside is shrinking due to the thermal expansion.
Iām gonna jack up the car this weekend and go back to the blind drain plug. Simple and stupid does better.
Tilting my radiator, because race car. Actually, Iām tilting it to lose weight and get it tucked up into the car where itās less likely to be damaged. Iām still on a weight loss kick and decided to ditch my entire rad housing, front crash pad and front skid plates/bars. Quite a bit of weight. I am converting it to a face fed airflow system like the C6 and C7 Corvettes have. C4s are ābottom breathersā in that they pull air basically right off the ground under the bumper. This should give me colder air temps hitting the radiator straight through the front bumper.
Interestingā¦so Iāve always wanted to find out, why is pulling air from the road/tarmac a method of air intake? Iād think that the surface would generate heat and not be as efficient than having the airflow be directed above it.
Anyway, the cold weather almost came out of nowhere recently, granted it is the ass end of October, so it has hindered the work on my rides. For my bike, I have dented the parts list for this project but due to trying to support local business on a few key items that if had ordered online, I would of had by now, installed my new gas tank, water pump housing, radiator and hoses, front bucket assembly, and wiring organization started. But since it took 3 weeks for these items to be sent to the shop, I couldnāt do shit and now it is in my living room:
My biggest concern was putting the bike at risk of having the motor being damaged from the distilled water as coolant. This is a race bike and at club level, you can only run water and a non glycol additive. Where Iām at it has been in the low 20ās and just above freezing for the highs. as you know water likes to freeze and it can fuck up the motor.
I may do some light work on it throughout winter but I donāt like the idea on working on nice carpet so Iāll wait tell spring to get the bulk of the work done.
Where do you guys buy parts from? Iām looking at parts at rockauto.com, but Iām wondering if yall know something cheaper.
-edit: Damn the layout there sucks. wish it was more like realoem
Rock Auto is good due to the multiple parts suppliers listed for one single product. It gives you a chance to do some research across the web with their part numbers and see how the economic alternatives to OEM replacement parts hold up. I get the majority of my stuff from Summit Racing. Great shipping times. If you want to try the local parts yard for decent shape used items, thatās always an option too. Speaking of which, I picked up a two speed Ford Taurus fan and at least got it mounted. The low speed moves just as much, if not slightly more than my old stock unit single speed coolant fan did and the high speed reportedly moves 3500 cfm of air. For reference, I was looking at electric fans on Summitās website that only move 2400 cfm max, without a shroud and they were $150. I got the Taurus fan for $40, not bad for what itās capable of. Most guys claim to get them for $15 but Ace Pick-A-Part was not having any part of those prices.
This pic just to show how low the radiator is compared to the engineā¦which itself is also low. The alternator was a major PITA to make fit in the AC compressor bracket but it actually worked. I did that to shorten my serpentine belt route and drop more weight.
I also got this two speed fan out of a 1998 Lincoln: itās the same one used in old Crown Vic police interceptors with 4.6 V8s. And itās a monster with an 18 inch fan. Supposedly, this one was designed to run constantly in high mode if a police officer has a severe emergency and has to stay in the 4.6 V8 to get around town. I donāt think Iāll need this one and will store it away but rumor has it that these move over 4,000 cfm on high speed. Overall, tilting the radiator was a pain in the ass. I ONLY did it to drop some weight but what a pain. I donāt know how easy it is for other people to fab their own brackets but for me itās an all day affair measuring, drilling, cutting, positioning, over and over again.
Parts geek, eBay, and facebook pages. Just want to say it again from my post in gd: DO NOT USE āFRIENDS AND FAMILYā OPTION ON PAYPAL, when buying directly from people on Facebook. I almost lost 80 bucks on a motorcycle subframe and was shit out of luck due to avoiding PayPal service fees. Why I brought this up was, I was not the only one to roll the dice on buying private sale items and it became apparent in a buyers beware post as few others did too and got burned. Luckily the person in question did eventually send the subframe but this might of been due to him being banished from the club racing scene.
Iāve had my car for 8 years (i actually probably noted when I bought it in the first few pages of this threadā¦) but felt I was still several years away from getting a new one so I just spent probably whatās equal to the entire carās worth on a new sound system and some cosmetic upgrades. It started as a small project but then just kept going. I decided to go for an āironic rice outā theme.
