SRK Car Thread (Show it off or ask questions)

so i have a 2005 accord sitting in my garage. if i leave it in my garage for like 3 months now will that mess up the engine and battery?

syncros in the tranny acting silly. If she makes noise going into reverse, try this. Put her in fourth, then try reverse. Anytime she does not want to go into a gear, play with her and engage her in other gears, itā€™s weird but that will drastically improve the chances of her going in first or any other problem gearsā€¦check to see if the gear oil level is right in the tranny, it could just be low :frowning:

the battery will be empty.
so u should disconnect it.

and here a pic of my VW Corrado VR6

Cool, will check the oil level when I get home from work tommorow. Sucks I am nocturnal so itā€™s hella hard to see by the time I can work on my car.

Thanks for the tip!

checking level on that thing might be a bitch. Most manuals use a fill plug on the side of the tranny case, so youā€™ll have to get underneath the car and find it. Basically, you open up the fill plug, and put your finger inside, if you feel gear oil, youā€™re goodā€¦if not, you are low. Most manuals trannys are filled this way. :frowning: It never hurts to check those things, I have blown a transmission before because I didnā€™t. :frowning:

mmm

any good car washing tips? the forecast says its going to rain soon and i know im going to have to wash it. my main concern is keeping it form getting those micro scratches. ive had a white car for a long time and i never had any issues or concerns about it. but i just got a new dark gray car and i noticed scratches are more apparent on it than lighter colors.

Itā€™s a fucking bitch. My car is new, and black.

EDIT

That supra airthrow now owns used to belong to me. It is a fucking beast but older than my younger sister.

Yeah question, what the hell is that? Looks hella cool though, I am assuming itā€™s European from the liscense plate, and the fact that I donā€™t recognize it? Either way it for sure isnā€™t American because the style actually looks cool.

Yeah Iā€™ve been giving you shoutouts whenever I post about THE BEAST.

The fact that the car is older than your little sister disturbs me and makes me feel very, very guilty. :looney:

I saw a carbon fiber hood for my car on ebay, 600 bucks, but I wouldnā€™t get one until right before I was getting a paint jobā€¦ I talked to my car homie at Papa Murphyā€™s, and he said his brother can do a full paint job for 800-1000 including paint, I have seen his work on Papa Murphy dudeā€™s now-wrecked Honda and it was decent workā€¦

Itā€™s a Smart Roadster Coupe. I donā€™t think you have many of them over there. :wonder:

Two things to look at or check:

  1. Sounds like your synchros are not meshing well. I DEFINITELY recommend you swap out the trans fluid with a high performance fluid like Redline. I run the redline D4 ATF in my bmw even though its a manual, the ATF from redline is overspeced and runs great in manual transmissions. Do a bit of homework though, to make sure you choose the right fluid.

  2. I agree that you can try to go to first and THEN reverseā€¦but if #1 doesnā€™t fix the issue, make sure your clutch is properly adjustedā€¦if its sticking or not fully disengaging, it CAN cause the symptoms you describe.

Airthrow should already know this but google supraforums. They have a mkiii noob faq and section. I was on there for about a year before I even looked at mkiii supras. I used mobil 1 tranny fluid. Been a while though. The only synchros that were iffy are 2nd but I always jammed that fucker in with no mercy.

EDIT

You need some ramps or a jack with stands. All this shit is under the car. I also suggest you bleed out the slave cylinder. It is a two man job but I used to do it with a brick on the clutch.

Itā€™s not his clutch, if it was the clutch then it would have a problem engaging in every gear. Iā€™m not trying to troll you parabellum, just trying to get the correct info across. A lot of manual trannys take ATF. Most Borg Warner T5ā€™s do.

No trolling detected, if you are SURE that it cannot possibly be his clutch, then I stand corrected.

I agree that a clutch issue is most likely to present in every gear, but if certain gears are badly worn, then couldnā€™t the clutch issue FIRST show up when shifting into those gears and then deteriorate to the point where it affects every gear?

lmao 6 grand to paint a car?

someone ripped you off

That sounds about right for a shop with decent work. Awesome paint jobs get expensive real quick.

Has anybody suggested when the car wonā€™t go into first gear, to just stick it in 2nd and back into 1st to see if that fixes the problem? I think heā€™s talking about a mkiii but with a lot of manual cars that I have driven, when the car wonā€™t go into first, just stick it in second and back into first and see if that worked. Granted this was with Hondaā€™s but it could work just the same.

I think the price for a decent paint job is relative. I would figure 3-4k would get you a really good paint job. But donā€™t know if that would include engine bay and door jams. 6k is where you start to get into the really good paint. Like show car quality type shit. But thatā€™s just my opinion.

yea, it varies. you can go to aamco and get your whole car painted for under a grandā€¦ but it most likely wont be using any type of good paint or maybe just one layer of clear coat. if its a car you plan on keeping a bit, id spend the extra cash and get a good long lasting paint job. dont skimp on the clear coats either.

No, that is right for a well done job.

You can get a $2k Maaco paint job, but its not going to last more than 5 years at best before you start seeing why it was so cheap.

If you want to really have your mind blown, my buddy has the ONLY matte black Z3M Bmw in the world. That paint job was, I shit you not, $18,000 and it was guaranteed for 10 years by the guy who did it.

But matte black is a very very labor intensive process that is about 3x more work than a glossy finish.

$6k for a legit paint job is about right.

Pics of matte black BMW or ban.
