Go to a paint shop and get it fixed for ~$500 ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That’s exactly the type of expense I want to avoid right now. The car was used so the body had minor scratches here and there but I can’t fucking believe it got keyed like this…

I’d get it professionally done, at a reputable body shop, and start parking away from others, it will decrease the chances of getting your car damaged if you are parked away from where everyone wants to. I had a prick bash his door on my truck while I was still in it. People don’t give a shit

I park waaayyyy in the back next to those little islands with grass so one side is next to nothing and I park really close to that curb since there are no cars on that side.

I have never had a paint job done at a shop before because I have never owned any vehicle that I cared enough about. I’m gonna take it to the dealership tomorrow or Saturday first then ask for their piece of mind before filing a insurance claim.

As for this parking lot, it is really small. It’s literally a 12-car lot for this private gym.

Park down the street or try to find a spot furthest from the front and take tekno’s advice. Not saying its going to be a 100% preventive measure as there will always be some fucktard that wants to park next to your car or is not right in the head/someone that hates you/ex gf/etc. It sucks that this shit happens but as long as you accept that it does happen all you can do is hope for the best and try to take preventive measures and prepare for the worst and mentally be ready to pay for it. I try to live by this, and its the reason why I can comfortably take my rare bike out to track days and such. Good luck

Yea. It’s not the end of the world. Like I said, I’m not too pissed (although I should be). Living in Chicago, I know a flashy car would get fucked with. I have a private garage at my apartment but other than that, I have no control.

Chicago is awful for cars. My xB looks like it’s ready to break down due to careless drivers. I’ve lost half s bumper and the hatch handle in less than two years of living in Chicago. When I get a new car, I plan on having a garage to avoid it.

Even in the burbs of chicago, asshats just don’t care. My challenger got dinged up in several places and a gash in the side view mirror. And I was only parked there for 30 minutes… I was able to kinda patch up the gash, and dentzone whatever was able to get the dings out so you can’t even tell that it was ever hit.

For the key, it depends on how far it went. If it just cut the wax, then rewax, if it went through the clear coat then you should be able to reapply some clear coat, buff, and then wax, if it went through the color and maybe primer then it’ll take repriming, color, clear, buff and wax to get it right.

Try spraying some isopropyl alcohol and see what color it turns to. If the whiteness goes away then it only went through the wax and maybe the clear. If it doesn’t go away then it’s deeper than that and needs to be repainted.
To kinda go over the process of touching it up there was a video on u2b about that.

Lol you guys make it sound like its demolition derby if you live in Chicago. I have a buddy that used to live there a couple years ago and didn’t hear anything about his sti getting dinged up but heard him brag up the car scene. I’ll have to ask him his experiences but it can’t be so bad that as soon as you park somewhere, its fucked

Well to be honest I haven’t had any problems for the last year. But all those problems that I did have was from one parking lot. Thing is, this was a nice neighborhood. Even had the occasional Maserati parked there. Maybe they felt that a garbage challenger wasn’t worthy enough to park there.

Got a warning for this, hmmm. I don’t know if I want to bother changing my headlights low beam distance. As of now they hit the ground 20 ft from the car. Is that too near?

Update: went to the body shop recommended by the dealer and go a quote on the keying repair. $176. Not too bad.

What bothers me is that they also found these rock chips on the front hood that I never even knew existed (was probably there when I already bought the car) and asking me nearly $500. There is no way I’m gonna pay that, especially when they want to repaint half the hood - which could fuck up the car loyally. I think I’m gonna go with the keying but hold off on getting the rock chips repaired.

Thoughts?

Try filling them yourself broskie

I think that’s what I will exactly do later. I just can’t justify them repainting half the hood for two small chips.

Might turn out shit if you try it yourself. I’d try a couple and if it looks like shit, either source out the job or let it be

But you’l never get good if you don’t try

Just speaking out of experience, or lack of, I got more pissed off when the result turned out bad than the initial reaction of the damage. Its sometimes better to let the professionals handle it, especially when it comes to body and paint. But that is subjective as I’ve seen some pull it off with learning off of tutorials and having proper equipment. Buying something quick fix like a paint pen or what ever that says it repairs chips instantly will give you shit tastic results.

Saw this on Top Gear, amazing well put together drift video looks a like a movie.
