SRK Car Thread (Show it off or ask questions)

Very true. Pelican parts was saying how companies like BMW, Mercedes, etc were looking to make it so it would copyright infringement if you were to work on your car on your own. Im not too sure how true it is, but that would be totally dumb.

…yes, I have a small obsession with McLaren’s I have loads of pdfs with my specs

what I do is sometimes go test driving.

Regular cars.

I do sometimes. For Father’s Day, my wife tried to setup a surprise test drive at McLaren Chicago. But that didn’t happen because you know, we aren’t rich, lol. But that is more for buying a new car, which is looking like a Mercedes. My scion XB is on its last legs, and its time to get a nicer newer car. Plus my wife wants a Merc. In all honesty I’ve been really liking the Chargers and Challengers. Been considering a lightly used Charger, because they aren’t expensive to maintain and it will be easy to find parts.

@ā€œThe Furious Oneā€ - I have been doing that too. McLaren is a car that I am really starting to fall in love with as well. Watched shmee drive his in the gumball 3000. Would love to own one.

Bae…

On my way home I decided to make a detour and get some motivation.

I do that too! Good to see I’m not the only one :joy:
Heres an old pic when I went to my local supercar retailer, it’s closed down now but the guys and gals there were really cool didn’t mind me coming in and just looking and sitting in it.

For those who already miss the only British motoring show that mattered… well Fifth Gear is returning sometime next year.

nonsense

This is more of my thing, take a car and go ham with it mechanically (doesn’t have to be a old muscle, really not a fan of it). I really don’t dream of owning ultra ā€œhighā€ end cars. Most I would ever pay for a car is what a good Porsche 911 costs (any car that costs more than a Porsche imo is selling you exclusivity, a lifestyle, or hype not performance that’s usually not worth it)

I’d like to take a car and really build it to my needs. And no, I don’t want to pay some nigga to do things for me. I’d like to do as much of it as possible as I can do safely. Except for paint. LOL

For example, the lead suspension engineer for Corvette ZR-1 took the suspension of the ZR-1 and he himself put it into his 60’s camaro. It was faster around willow springs than the ZR-1. And that’s what gets me hype. Taking a car, and really building it up into something great. This guy imo still made his car with the intent of show, most people do and that’s not a bad thing. But I really subscribe to the hybrid philosophy of every day car, capable track car.

I feel you man. I think in my case, I just love cars. I love old muscle, exotic and everything in between. Aside from going to actual manufacturer sites, I frequent a ton of build threads. Lately I have been on a lot of E34 and 944 Turbo build threads. I like being able to build a car around what I want as well, its like you know all that you will do to it. If I had my own garage (live in the city) I would do all the repairs on my car myself. For me I am big on educating myself on different cars and the quirks that they have.

I think that is why I am in so much awe of Magnus Walker, because he really didn’t know anything about building cars, but he knew he loved Porsche and taught himself how to work on them. I’d love to have enough money where I can just go an work on my cars all day and have the space and tools for everything.

I’ll take a personally built/tuned low end used car over an over engineered super-car any day. The fact is that car is an expression of ideas from an individual. Not the product of an engineer who wants to be the top of his class. The individuality of the low end ares is astounding and just flat out fun.

DJHyperKid looking at e34’s. As long s they’re 1994+ You’re good. I love that car for a platform. Severely underrated in the car community.

I just started getting into them honestly. Of course the E30/36/46 are the popular ones, but after checking out he 34’s I started to realize how good of a car it is to build.

I don’t even own a Bimmer, but I still get Bavarian Autosport in the mail, just to see the prices on parts for all different Bimmers.

This build thread was pretty good. Granted I can’t stand ā€œstancedā€ cars, I do think this guy did a great job on his.

I can literally smell the rice coming through the screen. It permeates the air so deeply and richly that my nostrils burn from it’s overwhelming scent.

I hate everything stance ā€œlifeā€ represents, because essentially it’s the entirety of the car scene where I live.

He put a lot of work into the body work! I just finished going through that thread. He sold it at the end too? Not sure if I would be easily persuade on letting go my projects unless the amount of money that was offered far exceeded the time and work put into. I have a difficult time trying to get rid of parts as is.

I’m with you man. Here I rarely see any stanced cars. A lot of BMWs and some exotics. The tuners that I see are actually tastefully modded.

He did great work, and then ruined it with those stupid wheels that rip, tear, cut, and bend fenders whenever he hits a bump too hard. I can’t tell you how many cars i’ve seen with their fenders split on the apex of the fender because dude want’s flush rims. but that’s my opinion. I believe in one church of cars alone.

Function before Form

I’m the opposite. I always see cars stanced out like that.

Civics and RSX with blown head gaskets, but they have those flush wheels slammed to the ground, cut springs and ebay roll cage.
s14-15 in bad condition but with 1k rims flushed out and slammed with cut springs

car scene in Long Beach sucks fucking ass. Even with the bigger groups (many people here make ā€œcar clubsā€), all they do is gather in parking lots or designated locations and just stand around all day talking about nonsense. Of all the ā€œmeetsā€ i’ve gone with my friend and he’s told me he’s gone to his car club. Guys have never done anything remotely car. The one time they went to the drag strip, it took my friend a few months to convince them to go. (They didn’t want to go because their Challengers/Chargers weren’t ready for the ā€œtrackā€ LOFL). And the one time we where going to go to canyons, these dudes didn’t leave till 1’oclock to the canyons, where there already significant traffic.

I also never see high end cars. I’d have to go down to Orange county down Pacific Coast Highway to see any fancy cars. But i really don’t’ like driving down there because Azusa and Muhalland area have the fun roads. PCH is essentially a very long straight road and that’s not my style. The only other place is near Hollywood, (so many of them there), but once again, I’m not going to go out of my way to see fancy cars I don’t get hype for.

What about low riders though? I see this stance shenanigans similar to that form of customization, while I too am not a fan, I can respect it to a degree, though when I first saw this years ago when I was in automotive school, I thought it was a bit ridiculous.

Everything seems fine besides the engine lol

The main road you will want to drive in Chicago is Lake Shore Drive (LSD). Its awesome to drive on, not too much traffic and during the night thats where a lot of Bikers and Car enthusiasts cruise and do small gatherings. Also every other weekend in the city, Lamborghini, Bently and other high end car companies have meet ups by the dealerships. I think out of all the cars I saw, I was in awe of a guy driving an Alpina B7.
