OK, so I got new pads, bought stoptech str-600 brake fluid with an increased boiling point making it a much more aggressive heat sink, stainless steel braided brake lines for the front, and Napa rotors for the front.
I thought that they sent me the wrong pads for the car, because the wheel wouldn’t move. I thought it was pads rubbing up. I sanded those down a bit after I tracked the part number and saw that it matches. Didn’t need to waste those new pads. So mad, turned out the wheel was rubbing against the caliper. such a dumbshit.
Brakes feel great doe, it doesn’t have that bite that slotted or drilled has, but lets see if the stainless steel lines make a diffrence in bite feel. Gonna install the stainless steel brake lines this weekend
As for the Mobil 1 engine oil in the transmission. HOLY FUCKING SHIT it’s great. I love my transmissions to feel clunky and fucking mechanical. I have to let the transmission warm up a bit, but those shifts are glorious.
However, I’m confident I have a transmission leak so I have to take the side plate of, remove the old sealant, and use RTV sealant instead to ensure it doesn’t break down like the factory sealant broke down…
Ohter than that, I need to manually shut the electric exhaust switch, and I need to buy an AEM UEGO style air fuel ratio monitor and see what I’m running to ensure I pass smog, and give me real time feed back on any future tunes I do on the car.
Personally, I think the TL looks better (slightly, 2nd gen is still my favorite non NSX Honda car ever). Acura will definitely hold it’s value, and you have the honda engine reliability, but I don’t know how reliable their automatics are if that’s what you want. You can definitely get AWD on that car so that’s pretty boss imo but more potential issues down the road. But it seems you don’t care about that. If you care about value, I know lexus hold their value as well as an Acura. If you get a 6 speed manual it gets better fuel milage than the ES350’s 6 speed auto. Also the TL has more power and torque if that matters to you.
The only ding that I can think of against the v6 Honda engines is that I still think they are belt driven. If so, that’s mandatory replacement every 80-100k miles. A pain if you can do it yourself and relatively cheap, but expensive from what i’ve read on the J35 from the 2nd gen TL.
as always be weary of Honda’s automatics, they tend to be garbage. their manuals are great provided you don’t add any real power to your car.
