Started to see a bunch of nice cars out the last few days from the warm weather that came through. Porsche 911, a couple GTRs, mint 78ā Transam, the new Mustangs. Was nice getting out on my bike but got sick right after. You guys go to cars and coffee?
if power is what you are going for, I donāt see the E30 being great for that. BMW has never been great for power, especially their inline 6 engines which imo, are garbage tier because to get significant power out of them you need to rebuild way to much. Itās equivocal to the Boxer series of engines made by Subaru and Porsche. Thatās about as good as it gets before you need to spend tens of thousands to make any real power.
BUt it power isnāt the end game, I can see why, but I would prefer the Mazda FC (most glorious of al Japanese cars barring the NSX).
Good luck with whatever you build.
So Iāve had my SRT4 for quite a while. And let me tell you. Itās fast for a 4 cylinder. Iām practically faster than a E46, any Honda, or pre 2008 Subaru, any Nissan pre 350Z, Mustang GT with a 4.6L, any lancer pre 10th gen. Itās great knowing my bucket is faster than theirs.
There have been downsides though. The transmission needed minor work, and will eventually need the 2nd to 3rd synchro replaced. Noobs will definitely grind gears going from 2nd to 3rd, and wouldnāt be able to shift from 3rd to 2nd like a boss. But it works great. However it means I canāt really take it to the drag strip, or canyons.
The Master and Slave cylinder took a complete shit on me. The seals on the slave cylinder erupted. Previous owner āfixedā it with base white rtv silicone. The fool. So the pushrod was forced out and it disassembled while driving. The master cylinder also took a shit. The original push rod was removed and replaced with a Ford F-150 push rod. It wasnāt grooved correctly, and it didnāt even seat properly. So had to buy a new one, along with a billet aluminum pivot plate fork to prevent any future bending of factory push rod from the master cylinder.
had to replace the wack as fuck rice rims that came with the car.
something similar to this design
I hated those fucking rims, and anything thatās riced out tbh. Fuck that bullshit JDM crap, seriously. Little hatchbacks dropped and slammed. Get your hella flush shit out of here, youāre slower, and you wear out everything faster. Iāve concluded that ācar dudesā and majority ācar cultureā is garbage. Import or domestic, these dudes are fucking tools.
And had to do it sooner than later, because when I replaced the pads on the car, the rim was rubbing up against the caliper of the vehicle. Which prevented me from moving.
I am going to need to replace these ācoiloversā. I dontā like coilovers because they lower the car way too much, require increase upkeep and maintenance, and are less safe than a good strut spring combination.
Will replace with Mopar Stage 1 springs, Tien H Springs in the rear, and KONI Yellow Sport inserts all around.
And with the 3d printer I will be able to replace the gears of the moonroof motor, and see what else is broken. Thereās a kit for 20$ that allows you to fix a broken moonroof provided the motor isnāt dead, and Iām sure the motor is dead so that needs to be addressed first.
The thing that has annoyed me is that the multi function switch has too much current being drawn through it. and the harness has been burnt and slightly melted. So I need to replace that (3d Printer!), and get a new multifunction switch, delete fogs (source of the over drawn current issue), and install a relay to ensure the proper current is drawn.
Unfortunately, the owner installed HID, and he bought an āebayā kit, and the ballasts are these tiny as shit plastic boxes. Plastic!. So I need to remove that, and solder back the original head light wiring as it came from factory.
But the engine runs strong, itās quite fuel efficient for being a āhotā car 23 mpg (and once I learn how to drive the car it will increase to 25 mpg), so overall itās been an interesting experience. Still nothing beats a N/A engine imo, but this is defintelyl a interesting departure from what I know.
So tomorrow I am teaching my wife to drive a stick. This will be quite interesting. I have been driving manual my whole life, so for me it is second nature, but teaching someone else how to drive manual is a totally different story. I personally feel you can learn to drive one in a day, but I guess it depends on the driver being taught.
Honestly if it came to just straight power I would go the American muscle route, but Iāve always wanted to do a BMW build starting with the E30 and working my way up to an E46. Honestly as I get older I am hoping to find an old garage for sale where I can buy it and just work on cars all the time, lol.
But in seriousness, there are a ton of cars that I like, and I have kind of adopted the Magnus Walker mentality of have a well build machine all around, have some kick with some handling, etc. Growing up, my dad was a die hard gear head, and he was running around in a 600hp Z28. That car scared the mess out of me. mainly because it was just too fast and I felt I couldnāt control it. So in a sense I know my limits when it comes to cars i guess, lol.
E30ās doing m50 swaps are fine. Depends on what you need for āfastā otherwise the m52 is another option which is relatively easy. Or if you want to make it different use a 1JZ, you can get 400 hp easy. Or just LS1 the thing and call it good.
As for Porsche 944, I have looked into this so many times but quite honestly the cost of upkeep is not worth it.
I guess it depends on what you mean by built, for me anything that goes from 0-60 in 8-10 seconds and goes sideways is fast enough. I did see a Volvo 122s the other day. At a red light I just looked his car and smiled. He noticed, when the light went green I could have sworn he went from 0-60 in 4 seconds. My mind was blown.
Enjoyed my first week back on the bike, ended on a good note. My spring cold is almost gone today and the weather turned out amazing:
Forewarning you mobile dudes, pic is huge LOL:
Finished the day with a car and bike group ride that still needs to be worked out on routes as itās been twice now that the group got split. All in all, very cool leading a pack of euro, asian, and domestic rides like we are all one big happy family. Need to get my bike sent to the dyno guys to do a power commander ecu piggy back with custom map on the dyno so the power deliver is silky smooth and to get rid of the tumor known as a catalytic converter. Bike is going to sound and feel like a whole new beast!
Honestly just because of my friends and like our influences I never got into older cars. I could tell you about any tuner on the market but I would have a really hard time knowing the difference between like a GTO vs A Shelby Cobra ahahah. And god forbid you ask me about the motors. No freaking clueā¦
Technically speaking, the true ātunerā crowd is just the new school of true hot rodding.
You grab car A, and you modify it for function, not form. Just because itās not a 700+up car doesnāt mean it isnāt the same thing. You are still taking a car to its mechanical limits. And thatās all of which is required to be a true hot rodder. It just so happens that the cars people get now in days are cheap. Just like chargers and challengers back then didnāt cost the equivalent of a new car today.
My srt4 for example can be built to 700hp, and the car itself is cheap. Just like old cars used to be cheap junkers, but built up.
On a side note, Iāve always found it odd when folk look at you funny for not knowing what engines goes where, or what car is what, but they canāt properly turn a wrench.
I personally and purposely donāt bother learning about the engines of other cars because I donāt own them. Iām interested in how the engine that I own works, and how I can make it stronger.

The worse kids are the ones who talk about their car and how itās built/how fast it is, but they payed someone else to do it for them.
