Thanks man. I am already feelin those celica seats. That is exactly the look I am going for in my ti. nothing super intense but a nice racing feel without being super expensive. I really need to get the engine and interior under control and then I will get the exterior together.
Bumping this thread with my civic si update. Paid a premium to get some legal tint(50%) put on my car a couple days ago. Looks clean, and felt like it was worth paying more than I had in the past with darker tints. Iām an ass hair length away from pulling the trigger and ordering BC coilovers. And next year I plan on some auto x, so hondata plug and play will be next and that will also take care of the issue of these cars having with lagging rpm hang.
Its good to see cats up here doin different things with their cars. I came to a crossroads with the Bimmer, and I decided that I am giving myself until March to have at least 75% of the car done. So what I have been doing is buying parts and putting them in a parts box. So far I have a new roundel emblem, car stereo, my tail lights are in the mail. I have a long road to travel before I get my car to where I want it, but I am up to the challenge. Project compact M is coming along nicely. I will update with more pics soon.
Good luck on your bmw. I knew a guy I went to automotive school with, that had a mid 90ās bmw(forgot the model), and he did a fair amount of performance work, I think heās tempted on engine swapping to a larger engine but I guess IIRC, he had issue with the firewall taking up the space of doing the swap. Anyway, I pulled the trigger and will be doing my first suspension swap, hopefully by the end of next week. Checked out where the mounts are for my car, and itās not going to be as easy as I will have to probably disassemble the window washer unit/cowl and the trunkās carpet. The carpet is not that big of a deal at all, but the window washer area is iffy. Worth it though, majority of cars deserves a decent drop from rally cross stock height.
But LOL, now Iām wanting to get some summer wheels and tires, love me those Yokohama Advan RG wheels or what ever they are called that pro racer Taniguchi had on his s15 a couple years ago. Iād probably be breaking my bank account if I want to get those shipped.
I doubt it was RGās or RGIIās if on a drift car. Super Advans are the to go wheel for drift so Iāll guess that.
Thanks man. I thought about swapping it out for an M engine, but that gets way too high in price which makes me want to stick with the engine I have (especially since it is a good engine in great condition). I will probably get a performance air filter (especially since the air filter box on the M44 engines serve as cold air intakes). I finally got the latest Bavarian Autosport in the mail, and I have a feeling that I will be going broke by the end of the month. There is way too much stuff I want. but for now I am just gonna focus on performance upgrades, then shift my attention to cosmetic changes.
Some people at the nearest Naval gas station were selling this.
I was intrigued but I didnāt want to take the risk as I was afraid of getting ripped off. So apparently, you just spray it on your car, wipe it off and itās clean? No need to wash my car or anything? Just spray and wipe? Sounds like itās almost too good to be true.
Have any of you guys tried it out?
I bought a couple bottles when I lived in Denver last year. And actually I noticed I still had a bottle of it the other day. Itās alright stuff. Not as good as the premium stuff but for what I paid for, IIRC it did the job. I would wash the car before applying it so that any dirt and debri on the car will be off with out the risk of scratching your car up. Yeah, I also felt a little sketch buying them off some guy, but he did a demo on my car and got me impressed enough to risk it.
It is his personal car, Iām going to assume itās his daily driver/show car/promo/light duty touge fun. Here is a picture of it:
Thanks for the response, however, I am curious about that āpremium stuffā you mentioned. Got a link or a name of a brand or something.
And I figured I would still need to wash my car first, which is logical since I donāt think anybody with a right mind would want to scratch their car. I suppose I could use it to clean up spots Iāve missed.
It may have been this thread or an older car thread, but there was a discussion on high quality waxes, that can cost in the hundreds. I typically, donāt stress too much about washing my cars other then keeping it clean and proper, but I do try to go for the carnauba waxes as they are natural and IMO last longer than the synthetic stuff Iāve used in the past:
http://www.autogeek.net/carnauba-wax.html if you want to get serious on this. I typically get what ever is at the autozone store, usually either mothers or meguiars. Decent stuff that cost more than the fw1 bottles, but I have to admit, you get what you pay for in the higher end stuff because some of my buddies down south spent a pretty penny on some wax kits and holy shit, the finish looked like the car was melting. And with the increase of money comes with the time of prepping your car with wax cleaners, clay bars, and even taping off areas that wax isnāt needed. Again, reason why I donāt go too overboard on this, especially the weather I get, not worth it majority of the time(besides washing and occasional wax)
What do you guys think of the Dodge Dart?

So I am at a crossroads. I am considering selling my Bimmer. I think there may be a blown head gasket, and I am pretty sure you all kow the cost and headache that can cause. My wife told me not to sell it because I bought it for so little that she thinks the investment is worth it. So I guess I am unsure as to what I want to do. I know I like the car, but knowing that the car needs a whole new cooling system has brought my rebuild project to a snails pace. So what do yall think. Some have suggested an engine swap, but that is well over 5k which I am not trying to spend right now. I know my wife is right, because at the end of the day I do have a car, and I know with overhauling the cooling system and all that I can have the car well past when i buy my M3 (or 1M compact, whichever).
So what do you all think I should do?
Head gasket and cooling system(Iām assuming radiator, water pump, and the tubes and what ever else), as for a regular tech working at a shop, itās not a big deal at all(usually).
If you like your car, do it, if not, you still might want to do most of it so you can sell it with out a horrible lost. Try going to one of those you pull it/pull and save places where you can cannibalize/take shit out of cars.
Thatās a good idea man. I love the car, I guess I have been hearing tons of horror stories when it comes to a head gasket. As far as the water pump and radiator, I can change those myself. The head gasket I will need a pro to do for me, because of all the work required. Well I will keep it. I will just continue to order parts for the car and stock up on the parts box.
I finally got the coilovers in the mail last week. Super anxious to see them so I ended up opening the shipping box the wrong end, and having all the stuff inside the actual box fall onto the floor(I guess Customs had to inspect what was in the original box.). But now Iām scared to put them on. I read on a few automotive forums that coilovers have a tendency of going bad after a couple winters. As this is my daily driver, and midwest winters can be shitty, I donāt like the idea of seeing my investment crap out so soon. But I read on the BC brochure that was in the box, that they supposedly can be in harsh conditions. Yet, I read somewhere on the struts that they are gas filled. I could also swap them out with the oems, but itās a pain in the ass to get to the front mounts. On my Si, you have to take off the entire gutter/window cowling, the entire wiper blade arms(not just the blades), and I think even the wheel well plastic things.
Iāll post a picture of my coilovers, they are sexy.
Never saw this post.
Truthfully I would have advised against a 90ās BMW as a sole DD, regardless the price. Secondly, I dont know where you getting 5K engine swaps from, I know of 2 places that will pull and replace a same/direct engine for $400 labor, after you get the engine, and the engine for that car should be well less than a grand. For 5K you could have an S2000 engine put in that LOL. HG and associated, should be back on the road for around $500 if another is doing the work.
You bought that for much cheaper than you would have found a Prelude for, perhaps use the saving to buy a cheap DD, and be able to put the BMW away to be dealt with better. Certain cars do not lend themselves to being ādaily projectsā.
You know, I would love a Jetta MKIV GLI with a VR6 or 1.8T, but I sure as fuck know not to trust that car as far as I can throw it.
Here are pictures of the coilovers:

Well its not a daily driver per seā, so it sitting there and me getting parts for it isnāt that bad. I got the figures for the engine swap on 318ti.org and it was for an M3 engine. But honestly I can do 1k for an engine swap. I love the car and I guess I was just frustrated with the project being reduced to a snailās pace. Like i said my goal is to have it done by Final Round, so i can actually drive it there and meet up with some of the ATL import heads. I would love to put an S52 engine in it, but it can get quite high in cost and labor. But its all good, I am just learning to be patient. This is my first project after all.

note: Take away some of those Fox Saleens, and replace with EM1, S2K, NSX, Evo VI, and STi 22B.
