SRK Car Thread (Show it off or ask questions)

nice to see someone else rockin an a-dub. i got a red 87 na, but i wanna get my hands on a t-top model and eventually go for a mk1.5 engine swap. anyway, for all those driving standard, give it a few weeks and you’ll be a master. plus, itll keep you from doing something retarded, like texting or talking on the phone while driving.

Man, now I really want a SW-20…I am too old for AW-11 (I still like AW more!). T-top in good shape is hard to find, if you find one make sure you post pics!!

lol at least you are honest. For me part of the fun in driving is changing up and down gears. If I ever become a billionaire and buy a super car, I’m gonna have it converted into traditional stick, none of those flaps behind the steering wheel shit.

i think i would enjoy manual, but i never learned and dont know how i would now…it’s not like during the car buying process i can go to test drive some dude’s celica and be like hey let me learn manual on your transmission

are you on bf.c?

i made an account there but don’t go there. i go to M3 Forum - BMW M3 - E30, E36, E46 and E92 M3 - BMW forum . more my style of threads/FAQs/help. bf.c is more of 3 series cars and mods

We have both in our household (wife has an accord manual) I love driving it but like NirumaNC said, Accords (hell, Honda in general) are boring.

<- Not my car in the avatar, but maybe the direction I’ll take it

I got a 1987 Nissan 300ZX Turbo with a 86 Turbo for parts. Bought the 86 first but it was going to be more than I wanted to dump in to fix it, so I bought the 87 (Total was 4k for both). The 86 has a rusted out bottom but real strong engine and good transmission, the 87 is in excellent condition (No rust) but the input bearing is loud from being worn and it needs a clutch, which the 86 has a brand new clutch and good transmission.

The fun stuff:

T3 Turbo
Electric fan
Maxima alternator (upgrade to 90A from 70A)
FMIC
Cold air intake
Greddy Profec B Spec II boost controller
Knock off HKS bov

I should have almost 300hp at the wheels running about 8lbs psi but I could take it up to 14psi safely. I need to find a shop with a dyno but I’ll do that as soon as I find time to swap the transmissions.

In a month or so I’m getting 350Z wheels and tires since they’re a direct bolt on and Z32 or R33 brakes with steel braided lines. This spring and summer are all about the suspension and subframe with poly bushings and depending on what direction I want to take it, either the stock rear end will stay or I’ll swap it out for an S13 or S14 rear end and S14 coilovers. I might also do another alternator upgrade to the 03 350Z alternator for 110A.

As far as engine stuff goes, I might get a T3/T4 turbo and I have to get some aluminum instead of the steel piping someone made for the intercooler and intake pipe. The only direction I can really go for power now is tuning the computer for more fuel and getting bigger injectors, which will be a pita because a 1980 something Mercedes Benz is one of the only cars that has compatible larger injectors. I thought about an R33 swap but I don’t know, I might go with the tuning and then forged rods and pistons, new gaskets, and a complete rebuild.

The stock Z alternator can’t handle the electric fan and boost controller along with the rest of the stuff in the car so it would drain the battery faster than the alternator could charge it. There was no way I could put a stereo into it. When it gets warmer outside here I’ll finally wire one up with new speakers at the 4 corners then maybe throw a 10 (maybe 2) in the back. No need for anything huge since the cabin is all 1 piece.

My next car is going to be an automatic. I’m so tired of sitting in traffic for 45 minutes fucking with a clutch.

Depends…I learned MT while I bought my first MT. If you have a friend got a MT you could have him teach you, an hour is good enough to learn the basic (even less if you are used to drive with your left hand only), only stop and go during uphill would be a problem. Master MT maybe hard, learning one is easier than most people think.

Besides all the fun, this is the truth of MT also.

NICE! Post pics!

Automatic Truck. I didn’t buy a Harley Truck or Platinum Truck, I was tempted but I bought a regular non-fancy named truck about $3k less just so I can spend that amount on a LoJack and Killswitch and other shit I wanted on my truck. My plates read SENTINL.

Shifting during rush hour traffic is horrible.

I take your statement and raise you

Oh I’ve had a shit ton of cars, and never automatic. Even my daily beater Mazda is a manual. Actually for a daily beater the requirements are Japanese and manual.

So…you raised me with a boring youtube video of a boring honda driving down a street??? :wtf:

Not so much what the vid is…but I assure you the Honda in the vid is anything but boring.

Is it purple and violet? Or just big? Ford F350?

Only picture I have of my car is a shitty lo-res camera one.

I figure I’ll wait until I get all the mechanical things done to it before I decide on any body stuff. I was thinking the bomex kit (since I really can’t find anything else :lame:) and the kit itself has nice lines, makes it look almost like a 3rd gen Supra.

Next car after this though is definitely a winter beater. How do Integras or hatchback civics hold up in snow? I want to get a Subaru so bad but I don’t think I’ll be able to dish out the cash at the moment for the WRX, even if it is older.

Not many kits for Z31 in the states I think?
I am not too familiar with turbo so, even your transmission is new but can it hold another 100hp? Stock was like for ~200hp only?

Old WRX? I always think getting one used is risky because I assume every respectable WRX owner will red line their engine a lot =P

Yeah, some of the old Z31t’s had a Borg Warner t5, so they’ll hold plenty of power.
Anyway, there is no way that z makes that kind of power to the wheels with the mods you have. A z31 with a t3 @ 12 psi only makes around 270-280 IIRC The fuel injectors and the lack of intercooler are what hurt the power output on them…I’ve had a couple of Turbo Z’s and have worked on them for years. Here’s my 1985 Turbo …(It has 2 15’s in it now)

also the best Z kit for the 84-86 is probably the kaminari kit, it’s old school but clean…

Nice. That looks like my parts car hahaha that thing ran like crazy, it was just rusted out

The only thing I don’t have is the larger injectors and like I said I’m waiting on those. I have the intercooler. I’ll admit I was estimating a little high on the power but some tuning and the injectors and I should be able to get close to it. I’m deciding if I’ll go Nistune or Jim Wolf for the computer work.

I don’t like the look of the Kaminari kit too much, but then again the only one I’ve seen is that weird silver with pink/red pinstripe 80’s paintjob.

The later Z31’s had the Borg Warner transmission in them. Same internals as the Z32 transmissions and those held a lot of power.

The transmission I’m putting into the car, unfortunately, isn’t the T5 and is the weakest of all the Z31 trannys. It’ll have to do until I find a rebuild kit for the current transmission that’s in it because I figure if I’m going to take the transmission apart, I might as well replace all that I can. I have input bearing noise which really shouldn’t hurt the car, but it’ll be nice to get rid of. I might replace the clutch soon to see how much that helps but I think it might just need replaced.

Plus I have no intention of racing it any time soon until I’m sure I’m done with whatever I want to do. It’s quick as it is and if I want to beat on anyone, I have a CBR600 in the garage for that  But that’s another project waiting to happen (600 -> 900 swap, sleeper project)

Its taking me forever with the project because it’s my daily driver and I’m at college. My garage is an hour and a half away and my job has weird hours so I never make it back home to work on anything at the moment.

I need to buy myself a pickup truck, tired of renting shit to pick up arcades…
