We’re still playing, but out friend Tom has been hosting on Monday nights as of late. There’ll usually be info posted up on our FB page if you have an account: https://www.facebook.com/groups/spfldmofgc/
Oh, well. I didn’t know that either. Very Anti-Facebook.
Is Tom hosting again tomorrow?
Looks like Tom is planning on being at Meta tomorrow around 7.
Also, ggs to you guys at next level.
And Markus, we should play Marvel some more, you’ve definitely been getting execution down, even if you don’t exactly hold the game in the highest of regard lol.
Speaking of Marvel, anyone got suggestions for my new team? Skrull/Frank/Mags seems to be okay, but I’m kinda thinking of someone else for an anchor that can still help Skrull advance on opponents.
Try Cap! Seriously.
Pick Wesker.
Seriously though, I would think you would want a character with a good assist who is also a good anchor and can help Frank level up if Skrull gets wiped early.
I think you should try Dante (he does it all), Nova (assist is good but not so much for getting in, good anchor and Frank helper though), or Taskmaster (good assist and anchor, not sure if he can help Frank though) . There are tons of ways to help him level up with any team if you get creative (anybody that has a long hyper combo, start a combo with Frank and OTG with team hyper, DHC from a hyper that launches 'em high and leaves them spinning, etc). Magneto’s a pretty good choice but I don’t really like him as an anchor.
Cap is a good character but I don’t like him last either. Assists help his game tremendously.
Yeah, I’ve been using Skrull as an easy way to get Frank to Lv. 4 (all that’s required is an early DHC from Inferno in the air so Frank whiffs his super and gets a chance to snap a pic), but it is tough for Mags to help Frank out if Skrull gets wiped early. May try out Dante.
GGs to NLG patrons as well.
And yeah, I’m pretty much always down for Marvel. I like the game a lot, in terms of the idea and basis of the gameplay style, but I just don’t see myself playing it competitively. Plus, I just hate some of the character choices they put in it. I could write a book on how they could’ve picked better characters to use.
And for your Anchor, like Clint said, Dante is a one man circus. Albeit his extended combos can be a little stupid, he’s a great character. For an assist, probably Weasel Shot or Jam Session. Wesker is a basic staple for anyone looking for an amazing Anchor. I also regard Doom as a better Magneto in general, so he’d probably be a good pick.
As for myself, I may try out Team Trenchcoat (Dante, Wesker, Vergil) and see how I like it. I’m not entirely comfortable with Dante atm, since I haven’t had much time to my PS3. =/
^ Nah, Magneto is better than Doom, but just slightly. Magneto has a much easier time with rushdown and can even zone better than Doom. The only thing worse about Magneto is that his combos are harder, he has a little less life, and his assists aren’t as good for as many other characters (that disruptor beam is awesome though).
The whole character selection thing is based off of what Marvel’s doing RIGHT NOW. The Capcom side is pretty damn good, honestly - it’s only missing Megaman, and I think they’re not putting him in out of spite for the creator leaving the company recently. I would have loved to see Gene (God Hand) and Garcian Smith (as long as he could change to each of the other Smiths) in the game though…
Oh I made a tier list too, see what you think (massive URL incoming)-
I didn’t know I picked up such good characters Warden. Most of my characters are top right and all above S tier. Damn. That’s probably the only reason why I’m fighting even against Torrey now. Then again, I haven’t played anyone in a Month.
Seems like a solid list there. I’d make one, but I’m nowhere near knowledgable enough about the game to make calls like that, especially considering I’ve barely touched like 70% of the cast for more than 10 minutes. I’m kinda curious to go back and try Shuma again though, I kinda have a thing for lesser-used characters and I love his assist.
Poor Thor. He tries so hard.
I see. So, it’s more like a question of whether you need a point character, or an assist, essentially?
And I’m only a little disappointed in Capcom’s selections. Mainly Arthur, Firebrand, Chris, V-Joe. I just hate those characters from their own perspective games. Ghosts & Goblins gave me hell and I never want to speak of it again. Viewtiful Joe was just a terribly annoying beat em up (Though, I had fun when I first started playing it).
Chris is another choice I feel was used because 5 was the most recent Resident Evil game and if the game came out sooner, we’d have gotten Leon Scott Kennedy instead. Seriously, I’d prefer Leon; Just leave him with most of Chris’s stuff except:
- Flame Thrower for possible other move.
- Grenade Super with Command Grab Super/Something else to fit him better.
- Satellite Laser Lvl3 for PRL Laser (Redundant?) Lvl3.
- Suplex Command Grab.
It doesn’t matter how much I bitch though. /shrug. Gene from God Hand would’ve been perfect and I’d have liked to have seen Cammy in place of Arthur or Firebrand (Either one).
Don’t get me started on Marvel Decisions. At least their decision of Nova and Hawkeye are pretty cool. Let’s just say, I’d love to play a Squirrel than a scottish raccoon.
And I’ll also be at NLG tomorrow at around 1. Since it seems I can never make it out there before then anyhow. -_-"
Haha, that’s funny, 3 out of the 4 you’re disappointed in are ones I loved seeing added. shrug Chris as a character is rather bleh to me though.
I’m kinda the same way as Hyp, the absolute lowest character I play on that chart is Cap, and the rest aside from Spencer are all top-right. Feel like a bit of a bandwagoner now
Looks like it’s time to put more effort into my experimental Dormammu/Wesker/Hawkeye build…
The only real issue with I have with the characters in ultimate is the fact that Capcom trolled me by giving Viper an Optic Blast.
Why are you so MEAN Capcom? Just because you left Cyclops out doesn’t mean you have to mock me :’(
Just noticed this on your list, but Clint, why the hell is MODOK so high up there?

^ this is why. He’s really underutilized.
The thing with this game is I would say anybody A tier and up is totally viable with the right team behind them.
Wow. Now that I’m looking at MODOK, he has some ridiculous strings from all sorts of positions.
For the record, I think Chris is a lot of fun. I DO wish he had a projectile from jump that traveled horizontally…
edit I’m not really here. The starter in my car, well, didn’t. Still waiting for the tow truck
Chris has to be in the game because of Wesker. Not just RE5…Chris, Wesker, and Jill were all in the first Resident Evil game. The Capcom side badly needed villains so they went with Wesker as their big bad guy, so of course Chris had to be put in to fight him. I love Leon but come on, they went OG (Arthur, Firebrand, Spencer, Zero) with this edition and I respect them for that.
Also, Ghosts and Goblins is awesome and those games put hair on your chest. Viewtiful Joe is a lot of fun until you discover the way to do max damage to bosses - then it’s pretty easy.
Cyclops really should have been in this game - I don’t know what Marvel was thinking. I’m actually surprised Squirrel Girl ISN’T in the game with all the other wacky characters in there.
Cyke is the only character I’ll admit I fanboyed for when the reveals were coming out. Manly tears were nearly shed when he was excluded. I looked forward to playing him like Akuma or Doc Strange. Stick him in the anchor spot, bring him in packing 5 bars and lv.3 XF aaaaaaaand…
