Hey Springfield! So as some of you may have seen me post last week, I was on a cross country trip from NY to Vegas for EVO. On the way, I stopped in your fair city to check out Next-Level Games and Meta-Games (both awesome but i particularly enjoyed Fred’s approach at Next Level). I also grabbed some Cashew Chicken at Hong King Inn (godlike) before moving on to points west.
I am blogging about the local scenes I sampled along the way in the hopes that I can get them exposure and help them survive and grow. But, it’s only as good as the number of people I have viewing. Here is the link to the first post of my series about my roadtrip:
PLEASE read and follow it. You guys are a few posts down the road, but I am definitely going to big you up because I really had a blast and I think you guys have a good thing going there. If you like how I write, tell your friends, link to it, tweet about it and all that web 2.0 social connected gobble-de-gook. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again and keep fighting!
My bad. I should have said “full support” rather than “support;” I was posting about an issue specific to SSFIVAE PC.
SSFIVAE does not recognize POV hat controls (which is how Windows recognizes the joystick on the FightStick SE). You can map all the buttons, but the game won’t recognize directional inputs from the FightStick SE. There’s an overly convoluted workaround involving Xbox 360 controller emulator software, but no workaround would be necessary if Capcom had tested such a common controller before release.
On a related note, one of my favorite things about my FightStick SE (and one of the reasons I was willing to spend $65 to mod it with Sanwa parts) is that it works perfectly both with my Windows XP desktop and my Windows 7 laptop. I already own the PS3 version of SSFIV, so I won’t be dropping $40 on SSFIVAE PC (especially since the game still needs a few more patches until it can be considered “release” quality), but I may pick it up if it’s super-cheap on a Steam sale in the next year or two.
Hey, just got thinking after talking with Radian about next month…do we have a hotel booked for Screenland yet? I meant to talk to Sang about it Monday but totally forgot.
From their website: “The prize pool will be split by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in a 70/20/10 percent split respectively.”
And while a $15 venue fee by initial comparison may seem excessive for a tournament in Springfield, remember, this is in 1984, and includes free access to all of their arcade.
I’ve never been to 1984, this sounds like the perfect reason to check it out. Especially if they’re doing a MK tourney; I never get to show off my Cyrax hotness
My only question is, do they plan on releasing the game schedule ahead of time? So I can plan on which day I for sure want to be there if I can only come one day.
I am one of the organizers of the tournament. We will keep in touch through the forums here. Please feel free to ask any questions, just know that we are currently ironing out the details. We will be able to solidify the schedule once we have a feeling of how many participants we will have. Please register through our site. I am going to try to make it to Next-Level games on Saturday.
Just FYI, Next Level might be a little light this Saturday, since a few people are gonna be at my place watching the Evo stream.
Speaking of which, if anyone has time to hang out tomorrow and watch the Friday stream as well, well, I definitely got the time now, what with joining the ranks of the gainfully unemployed and all. Don’t want to bog down the thread with my own personal BS, but if anyone knows of any good IT/help desk-esque positions available around town, lemme know, I could use it for sure right now.
Just found out we’re not even working Saturday, so I’ll definitely try to make it to one place or the other. If Next Level is gonna be light, I guess I’m ginna try to get out to the Evo party.
…now I just gotta remember how to get to Bolivar…
EDIT: Apparently they changed their mind, so I’ll be working tomorrow after all; no Evo party for me. I’ll still drop by Next Level after I get off and play a few rounds, though, it’s maybe 10 minutes from my work.
I’m not going to be able to make it out to the EVO party, so I’ll be up at Next Level at about 12:30-1-ish for anyone that won’t be going to the Saturday Stream watching. I’m probably gonna be unable to watch the stream, but I’ll catch the loads of replays later. =/
See you all at Next Level tomorrow, and sorry Torrey. =/
Is it the drive that is getting you guys? if need be, I will swing by Next Level and drag (or kidnap) you guys to Torrey’s house in my car. Kidding. I’ll see you guys a little bit tomorrow then. I’ll head to next level games then head out to Torrey’s house.
Found out nothing is happening on Sept. 17th for me but now work has got me working that weekend. I’m sure I can switch with someone I hope. Well I better start on practicing for MK, SF4AE, Marvel, and Blaz then.
I’m out on Screenland, have had some unfortunate family occurrences this week that must become my priority. Also, apologies for missing Meta for the last few, haven’t been able to stabilize child care lately. I should be able to make it this Monday.
It’s not the drive in my case, so much as the fact that everything I was going to do Saturday morning before I came out I now have to do in the afternoon once I leave Next Level, since they decided to call me in Saturday after all.
If nothing else, I’ll catch who I can at NL, and then get back into the swing next week.
