@Next-Level Well, if we can’t decide between which day to do on the weekend, the only answer is both days!
@Hornswaggler Sakura is very unforgiving when it comes to making mistakes, particularly with dropped combos. She really has to work for her damage, and has to take some risks to get in close. A dropped combo ruins all that hard work you spent getting in. While most characters have this problem to a degree, I feel that Sakura has to take some bad gambles to gain damage-dealing opportunities. 950 Stamina isn’t terrible, but when you have to gamble, it can disappear quickly.
That said, I play Dan. Low-Tier isn’t hopeless. You’ll learn her BnB’s pretty quickly.
We are going to try a Saturday for the first one since we are currently closed on Sundays. If we have a big enough turn-out and enough people ask me about Sundays I am willing to open up the store one Sunday a month for tournaments. But we have to have a good turnout to this first one for me to even consider the Sunday thing.
Since the dates for the other tournaments in KC/STL/etc arent set we are going to just have to hope they don’t do one the same day.
So here is the official info:
SSF4 Arcade Edition PS3 Tournament
Saturday July 16th - 1:00 PM @ Next-Level Games
Entry: $10 due at registration, all players must be registered no later than July 8th. (minimum 16 players, no max)
Prize: Minimum $80 prize, more based on turn-out
-For the record, your $10 registration fee is for “free-play” throughout the day. You are not paying for the tournament itself, just the use of my facilities and equipment. We will have other games playing in the store that you are able to play as well.-
Awesome! We really appreciate it. Hopefully with regular exposure, more people will take interest in the scene and start leveling up. Cash prizes never hurt advertising either Hopefully this is the start of something great; maybe not “future Evo qualifier” status, but a good crowd draw at least.
Haha, Dennis, you and I are gonna have to get some games in on CSII on PSP sometime. Been practicing some Mu combos during downtime at work, lol. I only wish there was a way I could bring and use a stick on this thing.
Yeah for sure. Need to get that portable CS2 fever going. Yeah, the moving situation is just dumb. Home of the brave, and the land of the statistics… anyways.
Been messing around in the lab with 'Buki, and I’m getting a little better, I think I’m going to start trying Tsumuji Loops with her soon. I’ll be up at NLG at about 12:15-30ish and I’ll be able to stay all day this time.
Also, I think I may have totally been able to nab an HDMI monitor for my own set up!
**EDIT: Alright, so I tested the monitor and it’s got a number of lines on the right corner of the screen, but it seems to not really be too interrupting on account you can still see the characters just fine and see what’s going on. While I certainly wouldn’t want to bring it to as a tournament screen, it’s fine as a Casual one. **
And I might be able to actually participate in the SF4 tournament. I’ll have to see how my money/jobless situation plays out.
@Next-Level I’d really love to come out. Generally it’s about impossible for me to get a Saturday off. I’m going to try and get ths scheduled, but I have a few questions about the format:
Is this just PS3? We have a rather lot of 360’s and a good number of high-end controllers in the Springfield crew. I’d hate to see the format arbitrarily limited, particularly when we have a significant investment in a different platform.
How are prizes divided? How are brackets structured? Will you be doing normal business during these hours? When will the venue close?
Yeah, I was curious how many people were going out to Next Level tomorrow, since Monday is on July 4th this week…if enough people want to game I’d like to come up and play with you guys. Any takers (other than Mark & Tek)?
Sang’s shown up regularly, and Electric has shown up before (Last time, he had A/C problems at his house) and Ryan showed up last time. Then there’s the two BlazBlue players I bring with me. At least 6 people will be there, I’m sure.
I would say at least one 360 setup would be beneficial, if only to be able to accommodate 360 pad players. And I actually have a good PS2-360 controller converter if a 360 and PS3 pad player should face each other.
