Springfield, MO - No, really, we play fighting games here!

I will bring another setup as well with monitor and speaker. I want to see if it lags or not. Also, I want to try yang’s reset so get up here clint. I’ll try to drag Aniel out somehow.

I wouldn’t mind doing a 360 one sometime. It just seems like every single player that has came into my store uses PS3 so that’s what I went with this time. This first tournament is really usa trial run to see how things flow and how many people actually show up. If the turnout is good then we can do these much more often and how ever the majority wishes to do them.

Yes the store with be open for normal business, but you guys will be playing back in our tournament room. It is nowhere near finished, but at least it will keep you guys seperate so there is no distractions.

As for single vs double elimination and the other “technical” rules, I had planned on running it just as they do at the other tournaments you guys go to. I will get wth the guys who come in the store tomorrow and get the technical details ironed out.

:frowning: Actually, right up until this started being a Saturday thing, I would set up an Xbox for everyone. I think I missed one Sunday, and still left my gear for other players.
The question really amounts to why would you limit a tourney to either platform? It’s all HDMI as far as the monitors are concerned. We have no shortage of our own gear that could be used to speed up brackets.

Most tournaments are “officially” one platform (like most of KC/STLs stuff is pretty strictly PS3) for consistency’s sake, but I don’t think I’ve been to a tournament that refused an extra setup if it was needed just because it was on another platform, provided adequate sticks/controllers were available.

Honestly, the ps3 is a better tourney platform simply because you can swap controller numbers on the fly. This can eliminate problems with pad syncing and having to back out of the game that occasionally come up on 360. It shouldn’t matter though, if most of us play on stick.

Ok, sounds good you guys. I got a little work to do this morning then I’ll head on up there (hopefully).

I’m gonna stop and get some lunch once I’m in town then I’ll be there

I’m running behind, but I hope to get there before 2 p.m. unless anything changes.

GGs again today. Man, I thought practicing this week would help me win a few more matches, but I may have lost more than I did last week. Nevertheless, it was educational and fun. I think I’ll be practicing some more Chun Li combos this week, though.

Oh, and I got to try out Amaterasu in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, so that’s a bonus.

Good times once again, guys! I did better than I thought I would, but I definitely need to step my game up before tourney time. I was dropping combos left and right… kinda bad seeing as Guy is all target combos, lol.

Anyway, I recovered my PSN, and my tag on there is xTheClairvoyant. It’s pretty random when I’m online, but I’ll get some games in with you all. And Tek, I’d be happy to spar with your Chun whenever I’m on. I could use the practice with the matchup for sure.

Hope to see you all next week!

Sounds great! I could definitely use the practice.

So, I think my Ibuki has gotten a little better, but I’m having a major problem with doing pretty basic combos like lp, mk xx Tsumuji. Are there any real good tips I need to know on getting combos to work in Street Fighter?

Aside from just putting time in the lab, a big thing to remember is not to rush your inputs. On a link combo like you described (c.lp, s.lp, s.mk xx Tsumuji), the timing is very deliberate, and it’s easy to mess up by going too fast. This is especially problematic if your main game is BlazBlue or Marvel, where chain combos are prevalent. Go into training and get a rhythm going until it’s committed to muscle memory.

GGs to everyone today at Next-Level. Had a nice turnout with a bunch of different people and games going on. Good times.

Should the timing on the Tsumuji Cancel be the same as if I just did m.k xx Tsumuji, because every time I attempt it, it never comes out and when I try to adjust it, I miss the timing.

Yeah, the cancel timing should be universal. Hmmm…

I’ve never used Ibuki, so take this with a grain of salt, but it may be possible to chain s.lp into s.mk. If this is the case, you wouldn’t actually be able to cancel from the s.mk; you’d have to re-time your inputs so that you link the combo instead. Fei Long has a similar issue with his c.lk, s.lp, c.lp xx Rekkas. It’s possible to chain those lights together, so you have to watch your timing to make sure you link so that your cancel will come out.

That said, I’m not sure that’s the case… I really don’t think you would be able to chain that jab into s.mk. I’ll boot up the game here in a bit and test it myself. Barring that, turn your inputs on in training and watch them close. It could be something as simple as starting the cancel too early or not completing the motion.

A happy 4th to all my friendly neighborhood fighters! May you all have a great holiday! Drive safe, or at least don’t get caught…

Finally got around to messing with the Ibuki stuff. It’s not a chain, but the links are super lenient, like 3 or 4 frames. I got the cancel to come out pretty consistently by slowing down the inputs; it gives you a little easier time in performing the Tsumuji cancel.

Your tournament on the 16th, how many people do you guys expect/average for SSF4AE and MvC3?

16 at least, and we won’t be running MvC3 at this event. If this tournament works out well though, we’ll definitely expand in the future.
