Although I know little to nothing about Shuma’s special properties. He is regarded as ass because in order to get decent damage (700-800k with 1 bar) You need to a.) do a lot of work b.) exhaust both of your assists with 1 combo. And if you can do Shuma combos why not settle for someone who is considered overall a better character and less work (i.e. Wesker, Spencer). I am a firm beliver of character loyalty but if you are just starting out with the game and using a “harder” character it’s going to discourage you. So unless you don’t mind losing a lot, go ahead and learn shuma. I dont think he’a a great character but even then no one thought Rocket Raccoon was capable of winning a major either. From what I can see what Shuma can teach is execution, everything else I think is up to matchup experience and that’s basically marvel in a nut shell. It is whoever can land that first hit and not drop his combo.
I’ve been watching videos of Shuma combos (what few there are) and I kind of got the sense that he just can’t deal enough damage to be viable. I feel characters in Marvel have a very simple test to pass to be considered good or disregarded as garbage: can you kill any character with one combo using only one meter anywhere on the screen? Is that an accurate assessment? I’ll openly admit that I know practically nothing about the way the game works (but I do know that there are limitations on certain things, like hitstun deterioration, you only get one ground bounce, etc.), so there are likely other factors to be considered. I figure there has to be something good about him; other “bad” characters like Hsien-Ko (invincible assist) and Phoenix Wright (turnabout mode) have SOME up side.
Not necessarily kill, but at least put a hurt on you.
Shuma can able to pull off ~800k in the corner with one meter. Is that not enough? Also, mid-screen damage is probably around 600k-700k (again, for one meter). I’ve no idea if the combos that I’m doing are optimal; I could probably get a bit more damage out of both situations with some research.
It’s more than damage too, you have to be able to land hits and execution factors in as well. Shuma might be able to net 600-700K but so can the top tier and they have an easier time landing that initial hit.
700k is good anything more than that is great as far as damage is concerned. Shuma has a good assist via his Eye Beam and the only good thing about him is when he does Mystic Smash he sounds like he’s saying “Red Bull”
Dammit, why do all of the characters that I like in every game suck?
SFIV: Dan & Hakan
Marvel 3: Shuma, Hsien-Ko, Phoenix Wright
SCV: Dampierre
Marvel 2: Servbot
So do this for the next game. If you like a character pick a new one. Collect winnings

Bonus footage of Kevdog going ham.
i don’t even want to mention what Spencer can get with one meter, because it makes me feel dirty…in the pants
like hamburgesa de queso said if you can hit for 600k - 700k you are in good shape. Strider only hits for about 450 - 550 but his mobility and mixup game makes it ok. Marvel 3 is pretty good about almost all characters being usable. (just let p.wright and hsien-ko go)
^ add tron to that let go list and you are correct
I’ll have to disagree with you on Tron. There was a Canadian player that had a sick Tron at Winter Brawl. It’s just harder for her to get her damage due to the meter she requires to get it. Tron is perfectly viable, she’s just not as easy mode as she was back in Vanilla.
Your right about that tron player, he was godlike. . . .but most of his matches were won because of lvl 3 x-factor arthur. Also, that is only 1 player lol. Nobody else I have seen has used tron at a high level.
So because SFxTekken is so trash. I’ll be playing Bison and either of the cat characters. Here’s my game plan… Never tag out and hit you with adorable team supers.
the cats arent on xbox
Just because one player is good with the character doesn’t mean it’s a good character.
M Bison Random
Like Cap, no one is good with his ass.
i wish there were more games so cheeseburger could duck me more than he does now.
