Spokane, WA - Game On relocating, fight nights temporarily cancelled

luck of the randomly seeded bracket haha i get why it was random but it still ended up being really silly.

i had fun even though i didn’t really play at all haha

Can you guys go into more detail? I’m curious what went down, and who won each tourney.

Here are the first place finishes.

MvC3: KoreaNWhitEBoY
TvC: Wolt
MK9: Old Bean
BlazBlue: (9) aka King
SSF4: LoyalSol

**For Brawl I wasn’t present to see the winner. **

**For the runners up I also wasn’t around to see all of the matches, but in SF4 Mehdi took 2nd and a Ryu/Adon player named Danny took 3rd I do believe. **

**We had a rather good turn out for each game. In MvC3 I went 0-2. I got match up with Ronny in my first match. Still it was fun watching. I think I concede that MvC3 may be fun, but at the moment it isn’t my strongest game.

i’ll give you a bit of information on the marvel tournament

so it’s a college tournament which means you’re going to have some random players of no significant skill in the mix right? well the bracket was done by random seeding rather than a rough estimate of skill based on past events and sessions like we did at EWU3/4 which meant there were going to be some random shenanigans.

The tournament was held on only PS3s on relatively inconsistent tvs (from waht I could see) which caused a lot of random drops or missed punishes from the people who DID know how to punish, but hey pressing a lot of buttons works just as well (or poorly) whether you knwo what’s going on or not haha

Anyway, so the bracket is made and the first match is TRC KoreaNWhitEBoY vs Jammo, winner plays troy.

the other side of the bracket was almost entirely the people we dont know minus wolt aka chris and i THINK the player who got second (adomano or something that sounds like that - I don’t know how he spelled it)

Well ronny beats jammo (match 2 had a particularly sad missed airdash which turned into a super from phoenix) and goes on to play troy, ronny wins that too and goes on to make his way to grand finals in however many matches that takes.

in losers ben plays this guy as spiderman, loses the first match due to some shenanigans and then switches back to his old tron assist team and loses to more shenanigans. then troy is up and he loses to the button mashing wolverine because of the slight lag not effecting the mashing lows into wolverine audopilot derp bnb

so on the other side of the bracket this guy who doesn’t even know how to switch characters manages to make it through and win a match at least, thus outplacing the far far far far FAR FAR better players ben and troy. chris DOES make his way to adanamo but can’t overcome dormammu with haggar at the end of his matches, and ronny wins.

it was just… really strange.

the commentary was silly because the main commentator didn’t know what was going on at all and kept saying how many hits combos were (if i would have entered he would have blown up if i ever landed an iron man combo what with the hundred hits and all on his basic hyper combos) but i eventually hopped on the commentary and hopefully made things at least a little more fun. not that the commentary was bad by any means he was really going for it and that was pretty cool.

it was a fun tournament, random seeded tournaments always have silly stuff and based on the tools we had i’d say the tournametn actually went really well and really fun - it just ended up being really strange

Thanks for the update, it sounds like it could have been run a little better.

Personally I’m a fan of seeding by region because no one wants to go to a tournament and be forced to play someone they play all the time in the first round only to be sent to loser’s. I realize for this size of tournament we are probably all mostly from the “Spokane region” but it would be nice if at least our group could be seeded differently.

But hey, that’s probably asking a lot of the tournament coordinators. Congrats to all the winners.

Yeah, I ended up playing that guy. It was pretty obvious that he had very little experience with the game, all the way down to the fact that he didn’t know how to call assists/tag out. I had to help him switch to pad because it looks like he had never used stick before, yet his first match he had to play the stick because apparently he didn’t know he had a choice of controllers. No offense to him, but he was probably the only guy that shouldn’t have been in the tournament, just due to sheer lack of experience with Marvel 3. All the other entrants had at least a basic grasp on the mechanics of the game and the matchups of their team choices. Still, I almost lost my second round against him due to the furious mashing :stuck_out_tongue:

The first guy to do the commentary obviously was not an expert on Marvel, but I appreciated his enthusiasm despite the reiteration of obvious facts such as combo length. I liked your commentary Gimpy, you definitely know the game and bring flavor to the mike. It’s too bad you didn’t enter. I’d actually like to try commentary sometime as I believe my knowledge of the game and characters probably surpasses my ability to actually play it.

Anyway, I had fun and I’m glad I entered even though I was not able to make top 3. When I showed up I wasn’t sure I was going to enter the tournament at all, but I said screw it and ended up enjoying myself, even winning a few matches. The commentary and general hype of the crowd gathered around the Marvel 3 station made everything more entertaining, though next time it would be nice if there was more than one station running so the tournament doesn’t take so long to finish.

I have to admit when Eric got on the mic for SF4 that was some good commentary. Usually Eric is so quiet you think “Nah he wouldn’t know how to do commentary” but man put a mic in his face and the dude can talk.

Eric was rocking commentary? Awesome! hahaha glad to hear he was good at it

Heh, it actually sounds like I might have done okay in the MvC3 tournament, with my herp derp Wolverine combos and all

Hey Troy, your signature quote has a typo. “Understand” should be “understanding.”

So how are you guys enjoying AE? I gotta wait all week!

i played with ronny for a bit today - i can’t download it until 2 fridays from now =(

gouken was fun, gotta practice the combos - but i’m also picking up dudley i think.

oni is TIGHT.

In case anybody is down for a tournament. We r have one in richland on june 24 th at 5:00 pm and sunken tresure games. Its going to be marvel three on xbox and mortal kombat on ps3 and ae on ps3.3 doller entry fee per tournament we would be glad to welcome you guys. If this information was already posted here than sorry for repeating it.

No problem. Zak mentioned it on our Facebook page but I think the fact it’s on a Friday at 5:00 means many of us can’t make it because of work, etc.

Now, if the next one was on a Saturday…

Just a heads up tonight (hopefully we’re playing this week) will be my last hurrah with you guys for a couple months!

I’m moving back to Seattle this Saturday and I’ll be packing/moving on Friday so I’ll see y’all there!

Things are awful quiet around here
… how y’all liking AE? What characters are we fooling around with?

I didn’t get to download AE until Saturday so I haven’t played too much. I still need to get used to new Cammy, mainly because of the divekick restrictions. Her normals are ridiculous now though and I really need to take a look at more damaging BnB combos. My old standby (cl.MP, c.MP xx HSA) does less damage because the spiral arrow now only hits once instead of twice and I’m finding that’s a hard habit to break.

I messed around with Evil Ryu the most out of the new characters and I’m having a hard time NOT playing him like Ryu, heh. Oni is…strange, but looks like he has potential. I haven’t touched the twins yet and surprisingly played a LOT of Yangs in ranked but I have not seen a single Yun.

Hey everyone, fight club is moving to Mike’s place, Game On. Its located at 11811 E. 1st. behind Pawn One in the Valley. Lets show him our support.

Awesome thanks for the info again.

What time do you guys usually meet on Thursday? I figure I should update the thread title and OP with that info.

I’m hoping to meet up with you guys next Thursday to check out the new place. It helps that it’s so close to my house.

Game On owns!!! We need to help promote this place!!! There big TV’s are lag free, in fact; that was the fastest screen I’ve ever played Marvel on. (Faster Then My Little Screen) If you know anyone that plays any games online please make them sign up at Game On. There’s nothing like playing on lag free screen with super fast ass internet. If anyone heads to Game On hit me up, I want to practice up there as much as possible until evo. We can all play online while coaching each other and playing each other. (480)353-0833

So what’s Mike charging people for using his place?
