Spokane, WA - Game On relocating, fight nights temporarily cancelled

My summer job started up, and I couldn’t get off work early like I was expecting to. Unfortunately, this means I am likely not going to be very available on Fridays and Saturdays until fall.

I’ve been checking out the replays from Saturday’s tournament, some good stuff in there! Nice to see some good Hulk play (by which I mean, Hulk play that does not consistent of spamming standing H over and over). MasMurdurah, I’m liking your Hulk and Skrull but kept wondering why you didn’t use Tenderizer as an OTG followup for your throws/knockdowns. Gimpyfish, still impressed by your Captain America, and while I dig the Avengers roster I’d like to see what you can do with a team of top-tier characters. As always, a very dominant showing by KoreanWhiteBoy though congrats go to Gimpy for knocking him into Loser’s Finals, at least.

Question 1: Do the matches on Frame-Advantage.com represent the tournament in its entirety, or were there more entrants?

Question 2: Does anybody else think it sounds like Storm is yelling “Nutbag!” when she gets hit?

I wasn’t there, but I think there were about a dozen entrants in both mvc3 and ssf4.

I believe we had 10 in SSF4 and probably 2-3 more for MvC3.

yeah there were like 13 in marvel - i didn’t record everything although i probably could have because we were already slowed by all the ps3 stuff hahaha i coulda just put that as the recording setup and ONLY used that one system…

but that woulda been silly.

I wish I got recorded more though sadface

never heard the “nutbag” thing myself hahaha

I wonder how difficult it is to get commentary piped in to the average recording setup. A good set of commentators really amps up the hype on a decent match for me. More than that, it would be even more incentive for me to actually show up to one of these tournaments if I got the opportunity to lay down some commentary myself, since I’m sure I wouldn’t last long as an actual contestant! Maybe I’ll do some research on what it takes (I’ve got a couple of mikes).

its not hard i’d just need to install my recording software onto somebody’s laptop

i was thinking about doing it at this one but just didn’t get it done.

i’d love doing commentary again it’s been a while

One thing to consider with having commentary is if you don’t have it far enough away from the match, the commentators might accidentally coach the players on what they should or should not be doing. You don’t want one player to feel cheated if their opponent capitalizes on something the commentators mentioned that they would not have otherwise noticed.

I don’t know how they usually do it but that’s just something to consider.

Even if we just had a mic set up to catch the background hype, that would be nice. My matches with Troy definitely lost something when you go and watch them with game audio only.

Heh you should get Neil. From Pullman. He had some awesome commentary.

I have a pretty new mac-book pro that we use. If we don’t use it then I’llI feel like I wasted my money on it.

We have come to the conclusion that the PS3 is the better suited console for the multiplatform fighters, as it allows for custom fight sticks, while the 360 does not. Xbox 360s will not be used at our event, and we’re sorry to anyone whom this inconveniences. This isn’t a bias, it’s just that PS3 gives the players more options.

The tournament rules and schedule are all fleshed out and posted on our new, official SpoKLASH website! Check it out and give us lots of feedback on the site, the rules, and everything!

Hey, I updated the OP with a link to the Spo-Klash thread but it looks like with the new SRK forum I can’t edit the thread title. Anyone else run into this?

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out.

Sadly, to maintain the fidelity from station to station, we made a decision to only use PS3. The real reason for this is that it allows for custom fight sticks while 360 does not. This is just the way mainstream fighting tournaments go, sadly, and it makes our job a lot harder. PS3s are more expensive, less flexible, and harder to come by than 360s. Heck, I personally own 4 360s and can’t use a single one because of this ruling. However, we feel that this is for the better for our players and the integrity of our event, thus we can not allow 360 systems to be used as event machines at SpoKLASH.

As for capture stations, this will be allowed and a waiver is going to be posted on the door, informing attendants that by entering the tournament space they waive the right to bar themselves or their matches from being filmed. There has been more than one person who has contacted me to do match capture, and one (that I know of) that is going to do a documentary about the event. So yes, feel free to setup a capture station.

Thank you for your interest in SpoKLASH and I hope to see you there!

Hi Drew, will there be casuals stations available for play at SpoKLASH?

That’s not actually Drew, just a reposting of what he said :sunglasses:

I know it’s KWB’s account, I just assumed the SpoKLASH guy was posting under it

There is club tonighr for anyone who is wondering

have fun at spoklash - i might stop by after work to check things out

Spoklash was odd, but I suppose that was expected.

Yep. I didn’t think it was gonna go down like it did. Too many shenanigans.
