Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

I dunno, I mean, Drones is good, as it is in general, but given Viper’s slowish speed and the fact that her usually position if just inside half screen. Drones usually just get up-backed. Cold Star is better with Viper overall, but I really am not a fan of Ultimate Ammy.

i think there are many suitable replacements for ammy assist, although i prefer cold star for the simple fact that it comes at you at the death angle in welcome mixup situations.

there are quite a few assist that work for the same lockdown purpose (your air meaty into block string would have to be different for some of them, obv). dr strange’s eye of agomotto is a good example. i used him for a while but he can’t fight… no bueno. iron man repulsor is also great, so is firebrand’s dark fire, etc etc

personally i stuck with ammy because she is perfectly capable of anchoring teams… even more so than doom in my team

yea the angle for cold star is really nice. as well as how long it lasts and pretty fast startup. But I think Sentinel is really awesome for any character.

but I didnt know Firebrand’s dark fire is good for lockdown. I kinda wanna try it out. After im done with Viper/Iron Fist/Strider that is lol

Team update: Team in my sig is really really good, I even went on a 65 win streak the other day at a friends house, Ryujin is actually a pretty good gtfo me assist. Viper has ToDs and safe DHC with zero if needed, Zero has ToDs with LL and unblockables with viper. Strider just chills in the back with that annoying assist and is a beast of an anchor.

I thought I would miss Doom and his missiles, but I’m really enjoying Zero’s many different styles of play

hey drew you could just say at my house lol. but you did convince me to use strider. Im starting to learn him now

I’m back to Viper/Vergil/Strider (despite my earlier complaints). I was in the lab and have created new tech, and by that I mean lots of unblockables and neutral tricks.

Actually, I’ve got alot of the inspiration from your video. Adapted most of your resets to Vajra too.

So…

Hmm. Well in that case.

:clapdos:

lol, I didn’t want to put you guys on blast

no more Zero?

I think I’m gonna record my next vid tomorrow, so you’ll see some of it soon.

My vanilla Viper team (Viper/Dante/Ammy) still has some incredibly strong synergy. I searched high and low for a replacement for amaterasu, but in the end cold star is still strong in neutral, provides some swag combo extensions, and has some of the best DHC’s in the game. Could someone more knowledgeable on the chemistry behind Zero and Viper provide me with some reasons for why its such an amazing duo? I honestly don’t think Zero and Viper provide much support for one another… Personally I think that a team built around either character is the ideal team set up vs having two good characters on the same team who…don’t really enhance one another game plan.

not putting us on blast lol. at least i stopped you =) after giving you like 10 or 15 of those wins haha

besides I see it as a challenge to step up my game

I believe it’s more so that Strider enhances both of their gameplans on their own to a powerful degree. Lose one powerful character that’s mostly self sufficient with Strider assist, in comes the next one with Strider assist. Then comes Strider. Can’t go too wrong there.

What do you guys think of the Viper/Vergil/Taxmaster team? It seems to me like it’s too Vergil centralized with Taskmaster anchor, but I’m not sure. Thoughts on this team? Specifically, thoughts on how this team works for Viper, given she lacks an anti air assist and what not.

The two horizontal assists dont really help Viper with creating more options at her disposal. Task arrows are great for her for many setups, and rapid slash I can’t really give any great info on, but I’m sure it has its usages. I just feel like you should have 1 horizontal assist, 1 lockdown assist or 1 vajra. 2 of either one of those are not needed IMO, but if you can make it work then all the more power to you.

I think my Viper team im going to run is Firebrand/Viper/Ammy. Both Brand and Viper obviously benefit from coldstar for their high low game. Firebrand generally is there to build meter and just go apeshit with his INSANE mixups post combo. Plus its nice to get some damage by doing raw tag combos with Viper. Ammy isnt that bad of an anchor either if push comes to shove (although I do feel she is a bit overrated at anchor). Not to mention I get unblockables of course for BOTH Brand and Viper… team is so cheap.

Im still in baby steps with Ammy though so its going to be brutal for awhile until I can get the dog down… wait… no it wont, this team has Firebrand and Viper what am I saying lol.

Makes sense, although I really don’t think the chemistry enhances any of the characters. I feel as if the team is really gimping all three character of their full potential. Viper, Strider, and Zero are all excellent point characters, and I believe that their optimal position on a team is in the front. All three characters are stupid on point with assist to complement their neutral game. The build seems to MvC2ish…which I don’t believe will work as well in MvC3 due to the mechanics. I guess I’ll just wait and see how the team/tech pans out.

I agree, though i think that attaches to basically every character. The whole cast is better off on point with assists than in the 3rd spot on their own. But some characters can do better in the 3rd position than others (wesker, strider, vergil…), and if they also have a powerful assist to offer, it makes sense to put them in the back. I also think the point/point/assist concept works pretty good, as long as te two points are good enough to do bs with only one assist. Take a look at MSS, it’s the same concept. Besides good dhc’s storm doesn’t do shit for mags. So i think the brokeness of VZS is more a question of if vajra is good enough as an assist for both, zero and viper. For me personally, i like to habe more ground coverage for viper, so weasel shot does the job for me. But imo that doesn’t make VZS worse. If you’re good at calling strider intelligently it can do the whole job alone.

So let’s discuss Viper’s MU against Morrigan on point. One of my friends I train with uses the Chris G strat and spams that soul fist with hidden missiles/vajra for the ultimate keep away. Of course Viper could blow a meter to run through the projectiles, but that’s only worth it if you know you can get a hit confirm and if Morrigan isn’t in shadow mode. I try to watch MarlinPie to see how he handles it, but he usually just gets bodied by Chris G. Thoughts on the matchup?
