You’re not alone. I think Plasma Beam is better overall for Viper - especially when she already has Vajra. Then again, I’m no Viper pro.
after glancing at this thread with all the strider talk, i went to try that new scumminess in training mode (viper/zero/strider).
indeed the team is dirty to no end, but losing viper or zero and just having one of these characters with strider assist alone can be a problem. tbqh you need someone like dante in the middle if you were to try and strengthen the team… viper/dante/strider or zero/dante/strider would be much better.
there are some godly zero/strider resets though… it took me no more than 2 minutes to realize the possibilities. i am surprised now that not a lot of people play this combination. i suppose the vajra hitconfirm is rather difficult with zero and most people have not been able to keep up?
Which characters allow Viper to relaunch with OTG Seismo? More specifically, is there any way to do it with Storm or Hawkeye?
He made the combo for me. 780k is wrong, the quality threw me off, but it is still over 750k. Oh, and it uses strider assist, but I’m going to assume you have that since every single viper seems to nowadays. =P
The vast majority of assists with hitboxes will allow viper to relaunch with them, exceptions being assists which throw the opponent too far up, or have too little hitstun. Almost all of them have the same input:
Call Assist > L.Seismo OTG xx.JCC.xx (assist hits) H.BK > S
The timing may vary from assist to assist, but it should work. Storm Whirlwind should be really easy. Timing for hawkeye should also be easy if you’re using greyhound.
I want to play Viper/Doom/Ammy as my alt team, but should I be going with Plasma Beam or Hidden Missiles? Can I relaunch with Plasma Beam? Because I’d honestly prefer that assist. If so, what’s the relaunch combo with Plasma Beam?

Well, I did that but they fell out after the second relaunch. I dunno why. Maybe I can only do one rep of the box loop now. Now i just need to decide between vertical covering hidden missiles and horizontal plasma beam.
I remember seeing Marlin Pie effectively relaunch with plasma beam but I can’t think of which video I saw it exactly in.
What I feel is which assist you pick mostly dictates what style of Viper you want to play. If you want an assist that will just clear up your horizontal fast against drones assist and other projectiles and wanna play more rushdown oriented then plasma beam is the way to go. If you want to play a more patient, mid to far range game and have an assist that will cover your VERTICAL and horizontal…missiles is the way to go. Once you keep the opponent from moving anymore that will buy you time to move in with cold star or just pressure normally.
I personally would go with hidden missiles since I imagine that will help your relaunches nicely and I personally have really slept on cold star’s neutral abilities. Like Sent Drones…if you call it at a bad time it turns into a low tier as hell assist that gets 2 for oned free. When called at the right times/places though Ammy shoots the ice from so far away and such an angle that you can cover a good amount of neutral space while locking people down at the same time. Especially since Viper already has seismos, laser beams, and basically all of her special moves have some way of dealing with projectiles so you can do that enough on your own without plasma beam IMO. Hidden Missiles will put pressure on super jump height opponents that at least from what I can guess, Viper normally can’t really do much about outside of mashing on OS throw.
I thought about it for a bit and figured C.Viper has the tools from the ground and with the combination of hidden missiles can create a full screen control that allows her to convert if it hits at closer ranges or just continue to constantly chip like a Morri + Missiles setup. Especially at the start of the round where she’s best and where meter for both teams is limited if she gets any space at all she can really just start tearing most characters down with the ground pounds and missiles whether she hits them or not. I feel C.Viper has the tools especially with an assist like cold start to get in without needing a beam assist and unless you need it that badly for relaunches it’s not that big of a deal since hidden missiles gives you OTG + relaunches also.
assist + L seismo > sjc L bk relaunch will only work on the 1st relaunch. any attempt after that will make the opponent flip out before the L bk connects. assist relaunches that work past this point are generally hard knockdown/ground bounce/wall bounce. soft knockdowns such as plasma beam will reliably work until the 1st relaunch. normal juggles such as em disruptor will not work at all (viper/mag got a divorce).
viper/doom/ammy is my main team since sometime in the middle of vanilla. i suggest using plasma beam assist mainly, but if you run into matchups where the opponent’s air movement or airspace control is too much to handle, you can go with missiles (morrigan, firebrand, any team with vajra assist, etc.)
I prefer hidden missiles over beam, allows Viper to control alot more space and also lock to opponent down
I agree with Drew. Hidden Missiles is a great assist and there is so much you can do with that assist. its great to use to approach as well as lockdown. provides otgs/ relaunches for Viper, and can let her reach close to 900k in dmg. It also covers her blindspot. Also seismo zoning + beam and hidden missiles zoning is pretty difficult to get past.
I’m pretty lame so I might go with missiles.
Could you imagine how scary it would be to fight Viper? You’re just getting ready to walk over from 8 yards away to hit her when suddenly THE GROUND EXPLODES.

Im trying to learn Viper, I already handle decently, Vergil, Dante, Nova, Spencer, Taskmaster, Frank West, Dormamu, Wolverine, and a little Magneto, from this rooster who you think can team with Viper, Vergil ? I am thinking of a multi hit assist like Dantes weasel shot so Viper find it easer to get in and make some Damage, I can learn other characters but I dont like ammy, yet her assist is too good what do you think ?
I used to run Viper(seismo)/Vergil(rapid slash)/Dante(Jam session)
I think Dante is definitely your best choice from that list, the first being that he makes a good anchor, which is imperative seeing as you’ll want viper on point and vergil second for his exceptional dhc synergy with Viper.
I would also use Jam Session as my assist. It is to my understanding that Viper’s greatest weakness is a blind spot above her, that makes assists like jam session and vajra that cover her blind spot key to playing a safe Viper.
Dante with jam session is probably the best bet. Viper and rapid slash cover the horizontal pretty nicely although there is obviously better assists for that, such as taskmaster’s arrows.
Perhaps vergil rising sun and task horizontal arrows. The generally consensus is rapid slash is vergil’s best assist, but I’ve seen some people do some sick mixups with rising sun…they however did have a teleporter on point. Maybe you could make it work with vipers quick SJ crossovers after a block string. Cancel the string into seismo into IAD calling vergil sometime during the block string. To reiterate, this is simply speculation.
Imo rapid slash is the best choice for viper for the simple reason that it gives her a relaunch.
