You can probably get by with that team. Weasel shot covers a large horizontal range so it’s good to help you get in and relaunch with Viper. It may be a bit hard to get in on runaway/zoning characters or characters that dominate the air (runaway Wesker, Doom, Zero, etc.) though, but you can always switch to Trish or Dante.
with that team you could also use high voltage for horizontal and jam session for vertical coverage. how you work these two assists into a team combo with viper is up to you, but as far as i know, high voltage + L seismo > sjc L bk relaunch is possible, and jam session allows viper to do a number of cheap setups, so you can definitely get around with that team.
I’m thinking about switching Doom on my team for either Wesker, Zero or Dorm. Outside of Missiles, I feel that Doom is the weakest link on my team
Wesker: extremely solid and consistent character, works great with Strider, otg gunshot can help Viper as well, bad DHC synergy
Zero: Best character in the game, low assist synergy with Strider and Viper, can’t convert of throws when left with Zero/Strider
Dorm: Really powerfull character, crazy easy-mode damage, decent assist synergy with Strider and Viper, great DHC synergy
That’s the team I just picked up. It’s working out great so far and I’m happy that both assists help control the vertical and horizontal. I think Griizzly’s team still works out and is viable, but in my opinion, Low Voltage and Jam Session assists are better for Viper.
I actually ended up going with Low voltage and Jam session, mainly for jam session because i love the amount of space i can control with it. I played with the team for a while tonight and im really loving it i think its a pretty solid team for viper so far ive got a combo off a tridash j.h with low voltage relaunch ending in burst time thats doing about 820k if i remember correctly i think thats pretty good haha. What else are you using low voltage for OhItsJou, and thanks to everyone for the help so great finally finding a team i really like.
I mentioned it in the tier thread, but if you don’t go for Zero I’d say Wesker/Viper/Strider.
Wesker uses BK assist quite well:
- solid high low mixups
- combo extension OR amazing reset mixup, your choice
Phantom Dance / Burst Time THC allows you to get maximum combo time with Wesker and not worry about needing to OTG with the gun. Or, build meter for Viper and supply her with all the EX moves they can eat.
It’s true the DHC synergy isn’t great which is why I like starting Wesker - Viper survives welcome mixups better, and personally I’d rather bet on XF2 Viper in the situations you’d use your XF2.
Wesker uses Strider well too. Good OTG, fun mixups, you know the drill.
Griizzly, I honestly don’t really know else to do with Low Voltage besides relaunch/get in. I just picked up the team lol. But I’m sure as we play, we’ll find some uses.
And Grimey, I’d agree with Onikage on using Wesker if not Zero. As much as I like Dorm, I just don’t think he has enough synergy with Viper/Strider. At least with Zero, you can get a nice crossover counter with ryuenjin. Not to mention he has a strong point game. My thoughts, anyway.
NOOO!! dont go to wesker . Dont go to the dark side lol. but i think you should rly try vergil. The DHC between Viper and Vergil is hella good. And Vergil strider is good. I also believe Vergil is better than Wesker. I might be wrong but ye. ill explain if people want. lol
But I really think you should try Dorm or zero. I think zero fits you better. After watching you play you have more fun just destroying everybody with awesome rushdown. lol
Yeah, it was coming down to Zero or Wesker. With Wesker I get the amazing resets and combos off vajra but with Zero I get a better character and a better DHC
Yeah, Vergil is good but I don’t like how slow his attacks are, and just his overall playstyle. At least with Wesker, I can play him similar to Strider, even though I really hate Wesker players, I think it’s time I join the dark side, lol
If Wesker or Zero both fail and I need my missiles back then I always got Dr Doom in my pocket
Eh… Wesker is definitely better than Vergil as a standalone, the reason you pick Vergil over Wesker is for the support value such as DHC’s. However, given how strong Viper is, that’s not a huge deal. So after some though, I think there is a compelling case that Viper/Wesker is better than Viper/Vergil. However, I do not think that Viper/Vergil/Strider or Viper/Wesker/Strider really maximizes the Wesker or Vergil on the team. I thing you could improve either composition by replacing Strider with someone else. A shell more like Viper/(Wesk/Verg)/(Doom/Task/IM) would be better.
Yea I hate Wesker as well lol, But jus tcurious Drew have you thought of taskmaster or hawkeye. they both would work really well with Viper or Strider. They got good dhcs, good normals. And Taskmaster can be played any way, so you can rush and zone. Also we all know how good h. arrows are
Hey DrewGrimey, I want to give you a shoutout, that was good shit in that tournament. Quick question;
I saw you doing that Vajra set up for incoming characters, and it worked A LOT. First:
-
Is it a true unblockable?
-
And if so, how “escapable” is it?
for 1 and 2. if you advance guard the strider assist then its not unblockable
I just watched those matches this morning and I was wondering the same thing. I came to the conclusion that his opponents just didn’t know how to deal with it until the end when the Wesker player TP’d out of the setup. The commentators also kept saying that you can push block the Vajra to get out of it - not sure how good that would work as no one tried it.
But if they do it too late or too early, they’ll air dash and get hit by vajra. Hm,
I will never give up my Strider, that’s like asking a mother to give up her first born for a pack of bubblegum, lol
Seriously though, you don’t think Wesker/Strider is that good? I know Wesker loves a horizontal assist, but can’t Vajra sub for one? Also Wesker’s reset game with Vajra is near unblockable.
I’m getting a bit burnt out for Doom and I feel that outside of landing a random J.S his offense isn’t that scary, I should probably run the Viper/Zero/Strider team but I really feel that Zero needs a better assist than Vajra
Yeah, I was really surprised how much I landed her focus attack, especially the raw ones that they fell into.
- Short answer yes, unless they have a double jump
- If you time it right, they block Vajra at FA height and Viper will hit them even if they pushblock… If you time it too soon and they pushblock it than they will stay in the air and be too high, If they don’t pushblock it than you can be a bit more sloppy with the timing like I was
That’s alot of why i dropped Vergil. I felt I wasn’t really utilizing the character well without a beam type assist (or the like), and I wasn’t going to give up Strider.
And yeah, I don’t think Wesker/Strider is half of what Wesker/Beam(or the like) is. Of course you could run Wesker/Strider/Beam as Strider likes them too.
I’m still an advocate for Viper/Dante/Strider. While it may not cover all of Viper’s stuff perfectly, one thing you have to realize is how amazing Vajra is for Dante. If you’re willing to really learn him and put effort into him, then the team has great potential. You know, you’re not in huge trouble if Viper dies. =P
However, my Dante was always pretty fraudulent. When they nerfed the Hammer, it just exposed it lol.
Yeah, I don’t have an amazing dante either. I’ve got some good combos down, I’ve broken the 700K mark, currently working on memorizing my 780K. Unfortunately, I have trouble getting a touch, but then that’s with all my characters because I don’t face actual people enough.
