Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

Viper/Firebrand/Strider is the Chrisis team. It’s good to be sure, but I don’t like Firebrand there. I don’t think you can play him at his maximum with Viper and Strider as teammates, and I don’t think he does anything to help Viper outside of just being good.

Ive been using Viper/Doom for awhile. I like it alot. Hidden Missiles is great for Viper. it covers alot of area. I have been using Viper(Burn Kick)/Strider(Vjara)/Dr. Doom(Missiles). BUt im thinking of switching Strider for Vergil, Iron Fist, or Hawkeye.

I’m not Sold on Viper/Vergil.

I’ve got some dirty setups and combo’s and such, but to do that you actually have to hit them first and Vergil has a hard time doing that without burning meter or needing specific assists.

if you do use iron fist i’ll be interested to know how he works out for you
because i can’t see him being anywhere but first which i think kind of conflicts with viper
and I’m assuming you’d use rising fang which is amazing but it’s so fast and pushes them so far, it seems tricky for me to hit confirm anything off it (that maybe because i never expect it to hit though)
also in situations where you may want to dhc between either one to get the current point character out, i just don’t see working none of their hypers are particularly safe for that

I really want to contribute but honestly I’m not good enough to. I’ve been reading all of this and have some things I’m going to try later.

My team right now is X, Rocket Raccoon, and Viper. Or X, Trish and Viper.

Thanks to all that provided in this thread. It really helps everyone, especially people like myself that are very basic and looking to get out of the training diapers.

Ive tried Viper/Iron Fist/Doom and i kinda like it. its fin but Iron Fist really just dies. I cant do much with him. but part of it is my fault as I have not put much time into him. Iron Fist is fun to play though. Hes like the fei long of this game and he is badass

My team is Vergil/Viper/Strider and with Round Trip and Vajra, you can get some pretty nasty ambiguous crossup action. I think it’s pretty effective, Chrisis probably has a more objective take on the power of the mixup (having thrashed me soundly at STA and the Friday gathering).

Sorry I know this has nothing to do with Viper, but I love Vergil and wanted to comment.

What are you doing with Vajra?

I use Vajra to combo off the Rapid slash meterless. Mostly I have a couple of setups that use burnkick and round trip that I’m pretty sure are unblockable and unescapable. The problem I always have is getting that first hit, it’s like Vergil has no mixup that doesn’t take a ton of meter.

Outside of some vertical control, my main use is as a mixup tool. When you get the space to throw Round Trip (which I normally set up with a blockstring into Judgement Cut), just as it starts to come back I call Vajra and Trick M. With Vajra on one side and Round Trip on the other, it’s pretty tough to block. Trying to jump out gets people hit by Vajra more often than not, and then Round Trip keeps them from hitting the ground for full combo. It’s the bedrock of my offense with Vergil, and I’ve had success with it offline.

Hey what do you guys think of Spiderman with Viper. He works with Doom really well. I was thinking of running Spiderman(Web Ball)/Viper(Seismo)/Dr. Doom(Hidden Missiles). Im thinking of either Spiderman, or Hawkeye. I might just switch missiles for rocks and put in Strider.

Went to the lab with some of Onikage’s advice and a general desire to fix my fraudulent Vergil. I’m having alot more success now. I’m definitely on board with Vergil/Viper/Strider, the team works amazingly well together.

I’ll share some of my unblockable setups in the near future. I usually don’t have to use meter with Vergil which is awesome for both Viper and Strider.

Hooray! I would love to hear anything you’ve developed. I’m pretty tired of the “Vergil needs DT and meter to wreck shop and stay safe” mentality in the tier thread. I believe this is not the case, and with a gameplan centered on the Round Trip and (for me) a lot of dashing / jumping M or H to counter opponents in the neutral game, he batteries really well for Viper / Strider. I’m working on a list of characters I feel you shouldn’t be charging RT at the start of the match against, and my focus in the lab is getting the ranges down for s.M - even against normal sized characters it will whiff when they crouch far more often than I expect it to (Wesker and Mags are good examples), so I’m working on c.M vs s.M against the cast as the opening poke.

I usually back off at the start (matchup depending).

I do agree that Vergil needs meter… if he’s on his own. This works out great for my/our team. Because when he’s on point, he doesn’t need the meter as the assists do stuff for him (BK takes care of mixup, and Strider takes care of safety), but as a result, if he does wind up as anchor, he will have all that meter built by himself and the other two to go nuts with. Plus, the team works in any order which is nice.

anyone tryed running viper and wolvie on the same team? and if so who are you as 3rd right now i’m using ammy and i really like it but i can’t fight zoners(hawkeye) idk if i’m just not playing it right or what but i seems impossible lol, just lookin for some tips on team/strats.

im running viper (bk)…doom(hm)…morrigan(duh!)…i found myself winning alot more easily and consistantly, u could pretty much see how this team operates…but im changing my viper team i noticed like every week lol smh…

@FlyingVe How do you feel about Viper/Ammy/Doom?

FlyingVe, do you use Rapid Slash outside of combo extensions on that team if you’re running Viper on point?

It lets you confirm off random Seismo hits, though not as easily as Unibeam. If your midscreen:
Call Vergil, C Seismo, FADC~~
~~(if hit),Wavedash x N, 5C,S
~~(If block), C Seismo (and they are pushed fullscreen)

It’s not bad, it seems to cover all the bases. Your pretty much forced to put Ammy on Cold Star and Doom on Missiles.

Why Doom on Missles? I know Cold Star setups up Viper’s Unblockable Focus attack, have you tried with Doom Rocks?

Because Viper really needs an assist to cover her blind spot, which is above her Seismo’s. Cold Star won’t do it. Hidden Missiles isn’t perfect, but your options in that department are limited.

It why you see so many of us running around with assists like Vajra, Jam Session, Hidden Missiles, and the like. We don’t like losing to Zero and Trish because they just sit in our blond spot all day.
