Right? Me and Ve can never seem to agree completely on anything, but it just makes thing interesting and brings new ideas to the table.
A pain as in - when I think I have something figured out, you post something that makes me think about it a little more. Usually in ways I didn’t think to initially. Sometimes I make changes and sometimes I don’t. Either way it’s always useful info nonetheless.
I’ll take it then…
…
Strangely, Chrisis, Gottnoskill, and I seem to agree on most things.
Also, if Gottnoskill is reading this. Were you still gonna do a Burn Kick video? I was thinking about throwing one together for my little Tricks and Tech series I gots going.
I was actually working on it as we speak lol. Doing a big change log for Viper.
Maybe we can work together and figure out stuff. I have a pretty good understanding of the BK but were you doing a video for BK’s just tech wise?
Oh yeah… and I don’t know if people have noticed this but the seismo hitbox was nerfed slightly I noticed. Been testing it out and they nerfed it enough that you aren’t guaranteed any type of seismo chain like in vanilla. So basically L seismo chained into M seismo doesn’t hit consistently anymore. Same goes for M seismo chained to H seismo.
Either they slimmed down the seismo hit box or they spread the seismo’s out a bit. I might be a little inclined to say both.
good sir RagingKeela gave me a combo to try out with eye of agomotto assist (thanks btw) it works well from midscreen to corner, more specifically when the eye of agomotto is placed close to the corner. i feel like the eye gets placed a little off the screen and the hits become inconsistent if i do the same thing in the corner, especially for smaller characters (viper doesn’t push herself out enough to cause strange to come out at a sweet spot). i ALMOST had a sick combo with eye of agomotto as the combo ender, but i couldn’t do it. i think i’ll have to stick with this assist as a mixup tool, which kind of comes up short on my standards of assist choice. thinking i might stick to bolts of balthakk after all.
i did some other lab work to see which assists help viper in both combo extension and mixup / lockdown / unblockable focus attack setup. i hope dr strange sticks it out with me til the end but if not… i know who im playing D;
Looking forward to your new videos I know you all have been exploring new characters but I’m definitely ready for some new viper content…
Loving Viper, Magnus, Chun-li
How hard is Viper to learn at a competitive level? If Magneto and Dante are 5/10 what is she?
Is Viper in the middle not a good idea?I don’t wanna ramble on and on about my ideas but before I put in lab time I wanna confirm because I don’t see any Vipers putting here anywhere other than first.
Also, should a Viper be always charging optic blast? It’s the one thing I hated about Zero.
Trying to run Thor / Viper / x
9.5/10 The general consensus of the UMvC3 community as a whole is that she’s the most technical/difficult to play character in the game, though some viper players on these boards beg to differ. But she’s definitely one of the hardest if not the hardest to learn.
She’s usually either played on point as a epic-rushdown-with-assists-with-lots-of-damage-but-also-a-battery character, or as an anchor as a meter-whoring-epic-damage-wtf-do-I-do character. In the middle, I suppose she’d be a little of both.
We really haven’t explored it enough to really say how it should be used. As of now, we pretty much just play as we did in vanilla. It comes out fairly slow, can only be super cancelled, and can be ducked under by most of the cast (or even just stood under for some). The only real use we’ve found for it is that it has some really epic durability, beating out even zero’s fully charged buster. If you ask me, it will probably end up being a matchup specific thing. For now, you’re better off just using it as an occasional mixup of routine.
lolthor
Probably not at this point. It’s not easy to put into combos, and if you’re charging it and you get a chance at a combo it will completely mess it up when you release it. I just use it to annoy people who try to zone her by blowing through their crap. You can also zone with it if you want from a distance. Charge with L, rapid seismo with M and H (beam assist - most viper players have one) release the beam when they try to jump. Good to keep someone in the corner and advance if they get hit.
I almost always charge the laser (not always). Just remember the times to release it.
Off a jump in, release it with your jump in attack, and when you do a TK release it. Also, it isn’t airOK so anytime you jump post siesmo.
How do people feel about the felicia match up now? Shady K vs Chrisis and DJ Housen vs MarlinPie, felicia seems to have a heavy advantage with delta kick.
Felicia still has a bad matchup against Viper, EX Seismo is easy to do on reaction and kills her.
Also, I wanted to post up the team I’m currently working with.
Vergil/Viper/Strider.
I’ve got some really good unblockable setups with Vergil that effectively let me play him meterless which leaves Viper with tons of meter to EX Seismo with Viper. My Vergil is still pretty suspect at the moment, but I’ll let you guys know if I have any success with it. If not, I might just revert back to Viper/Vergil/Strider.
See, that was what I was thinking for those entire matches! “Shouldn’t he be doing an EX.Sei or something?”
Hm, very interesting. I was about to say that you’d have to play a pretty dry Viper, but if you honestly think you can play an effectively dry Vergil, then it actually starts to look really good. One thing that stands out to me is that no matter who’s left after 2 characters drop, you’ve got a good anchor who can really whore it up if you manage to save up enough meter.
If I want to use C.Viper/Strange, which char should I add to make it very effective? (besides Doom)
Saw some people saying that Viper / Vergil / Dante wasn’t working out too well, but I also read somewhere that this is MarlinPie’s new team. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this team does or doesn’t work, or better yet have some video of MarlinPie playing them?

REAL unblockables
I tried that team out, and I liked it, but I just don’t want to use Dante and Vergil on the same team. I had a hard time choosing between weasel shot and jam session though. I ultimately chose weasel shot to help Viper get in before I dropped that team. And if you want to see Marlinpie play, you should probably check out twitch.tv/live_oratory and look at the archives. I’m sure you’ll find some of his play there.
And can anyone help me out with my team? I’m thinking about Viper(seismo)/Vergil(rapid slash)/Hawkeye(greyhound) or Viper(seismo)/Spencer(slant)/Vergil(rapid slash). Mentioned early by DJ Divine, if I choose my Viper/Spencer team, I may use Spencer on point. Does anyone have experience with these teams?
Viper stider is just a stupid unfair team synergy lol. Corner lock down with strider assist almost guarantees an unblockable or easy mix up, (fake unblockable, do charge, then dash into something else like a grab or something). With vergil I don’t know how well it would work since he seems to be a meter hungry character, and strider right behind viper who is also meter hungry.
I’ve been running the teams now:
Zero, Viper, Strange
and VSS, Viper, Strange, Stider
a good alternate is Viper, Strange, Wesker (If you don’t feel cheap using wesker, Any team order pretty much works, but it’s best not to keep strange on point since you want him as your assist character and or anchor), his otg simplifies a viper combo’s quite a bit.
Chrisis talked about that match a little but he didn’t really say much about ex I don’t think. I think punishing or baiting it with optic blast then going to ex seismo is a great way to punish it, but perhaps smart felicia’s will get around that with calling an assist first then delta kicking, idk, she still seems tough for viper to handle after watching those matches.
I got my ass kicked by my friend playing Cap/Akum/Dorm the other day. Does that Mean Viepr has a bad matchup against those three? Or did I just get beat, outplayed, played badly (or all of the above)?
Don’t over exagerrate the results of a single match. Think about the relevant tools, what can Felecia do to get in that won’t get her instantly killed by EX Seismo or Emergency combination?
