Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

That’s all well and good, but without cover, you can’t really Zipline towards the enemy like that safely. Stick something like Drones or Unibeam (you have alot of options) in there and Assist+Zipline gets much harder to deal with.

Yea I agree. I’m using Plasma Beam with Doom so it’s not a problem. I don’t see how it’d be a problem with Vajra either.

My friend asked me to post this here, please give impressions;

Viper/Nova/Spencer

And what assists are the best?

you’ll want plasma beam for sure if you end up using doom. what i was talking about in regards to OTG, is to have spencer’s combo extended on top of his grapple hook wall bounce and bionic bomber OTG – if he has 1 more OTG or grapple hook with wall bounce preservation with an assist, he can kill almost any character. i feel that it’s almost more effective to do that with spencer on point than viper on point using both assists for her combo.

I was really contemplating this team, but I just don’t think there’s enough assist support. I feel like Slant Shot is great for Viper, but don’t think it’s something to hang your hat on. Same for all of Nova’s assists. If he/she wants to use Viper, I’d suggest dropping either Spencer or Nova and picking up a better assist.

Ah, I get what you mean. I’ll do some testing. I’ve yet to put together my BnB for Spencer.

Help a brotha out: I got my Zero team ready but now I need a Viper team. Viper/Dante/Vergil isn’t really working out that well for me so I’m considering Viper/Dante/Strider and Viper/Vergil/Strider, which would be better? I know Vergil does more damage than Dante in Ultimate (RIP Vanilla Dante… I’ll always love you) but I really prefer Jam Session over Rapid Slash…

or should i just stick with what im using

Thanks for all your help.

I’ve been pretty successful so far with seismo spam, optic beams to kill the assists, throwing them out of random launchers, and air throwing most jump ins. Vajra definitely helps, and I used rocks just to create some confusion with it’s slow speed. Rocks are also an OK lockdown to set up an unblockable. Though I’m still not winning every match against Nemy/Sent, I do find that I’m killing 2/3 characters more often.

Yet, I think I will be trying your suggested order, which also means switching to Plasma. I do feel better with Doom as an anchor, and having Plasma will help Strider stay alive longer, I think. My team had way more than enough tools, I just to find the right configuration. Thanks!

As a side note, Plasma assist clears out opposing assists pretty well. So that will likely help even more with that specific matchup issue. Lemme know how it works out!

Also, Vajra to start your Viper combos, and Plasma to end them. It just flows so well. I’d still rock doom if Vergil hadn’t taken over my heart.

Considering Viper/Doom/Wesker. I’m thinking if I use Doom Missiles, I could mix that with Seismo spam to play ghetto keepaway when I need to, and also provide a safe cover for approaching. Any holes with the team that anyone can see?

Wesker/Viper/Doom was my Vanilla team. Burn Kick extends Wesker combos nicely, and sets up a lvl 3 or a nice reset/mixup state too. I also think you’ll find the general consensus being Plasma Beam = best Doom assist for Viper. With their ability to string insanely long combos together on their own, I don’t think Wesker assist brings much to the table for either character, but their two assists help Wesker TREMENDOUSLY. Also, since Wesker is a great battery, Viper gets that meter she loves if/when Wesker dies.

Don’t give up on “snake and demons” just yet…but no matter what I suggest to always have either jam session or varja as vipers assisit. With viper/Dante/strider the assists are a little redundant IMO. And viper/Vergil/strider feels too meter inefficient for me. In the end I think u can get alot out of any of those three teams…but I’m already in love with viper and her twin bodygaurds

Thanks, dude! Time to hit some hit training mode for a bit longer and then I’ll take it to the streets. I think there’s a tourney coming up before too long and I want to wreck house if possible. Again, I appreciate it a lot.

Are missiles really not a good assist for Viper? I remember reading that someone had unblockable set ups for Viper with Missiles assist.

I also like use BoB with Viper as well. I feel it does better than Dooms beam because it sort of holds you in place for mixups similar to what I did in Vanilla with Iron Man. Although I have my suspicions that eventually people will start to punish that assist more because most characters go right under it when ducking baking Strange vulnerable if you called him with crouching normal range of them. On the flip side of that you could use Strange as bait and punish people trying to punish him… I have done this quite a few times.

Also im wondering if you can get some sort of Impact palm loop off a raw Emergency Combination (say you punished a bad hyper with with) by DHCing into 7 rings of ragador… does it recover enough in time for you to be able to jump up and hit them with a IP and start a loop? I might test this later but I have been so hooked on KOF 13 lately lol.

I still dont think Viper/Strange are optimal partners but they are a fun duo to play. Considering your team set up though Doom is a great glue guy and can make most duos play well together.

Nice job against LLND on WNF last night by the way.

thank you! after LLND, there was a bit of a bracket snafu so whoever i beat afterwards apparently was recorded to have beaten me, then the tourney went on far too long without me or the bracket runners finding out about it, so i won’t know how i did last night at all, lol.

i try to call strange and immediately cover him, for bolts of balthakk assist. you can call him at the extended full screen and close the gap to do this easily, and the beam will stretch full screen in no time. definitely not a good assist to call for covering your ass though, since as you said, ducking under strange and hitting him is just too easy. but the funny thing about this assist, is that it’s still just as easy to try and hit strange’s head, for characters that have air projectiles that shoot diagonally down. strange is just too tall.

viper’s optic blast actually is at the same height as bolts of balthakk… so i think at least for me, using plasma beam with optic blast will be better for zoning purposes, and plasma beam comes out faster for horizontal coverage, doom is harder to get hit out of, etc. plus the options i gain from switching to eye of agomotto assist… i think it’s too good to pass up.

if you punish something with a raw emergency combination, you have to wait for the opponent to come down to about viper’s head height when standing, to DHC into strange, xfc teleport, and you can do 1 impact palm loop before having to launch into air series and finishing the combo. the way to get more damage off of this is to DHC early out of emergency combination, before the upwards burn kick part (first 2 hits then DHC). i actually tested this and this gives you 3 impact palm jump loop. which is still good. fyi a raw spell of vishanti xfc will give you 5 impact palm loops, which is rather hard in xfc1 but piece of cake from xfc2 and on.

I wouldn’t say they’re “not good”, just that Plasma is “better”. It’s all totally subjective / personal preference since all of Doom’s assists do well for Viper, and it comes down to what you really want out of the assist. Go nuts!

EDIT - Since you have Wesker on the team, I think Plasma’s easily the best choice. Beam+teleport will never go out of style!

I’ve always been of the opinion, that when running Viper/Doom, which assist you want for Doom depends what your third character has and which assist he has.

Somewhat unrelated, just wanna take a moment to say thanks for always being a pain - in a good way. Even if I choose not to take your advice, it’s always something good to think about.

Thanks… I think?
