Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

I know, but the third one happens a lot when you do blockstring -> seismo -> Jam Session + JC FA. It was an awesome idea for an unblockable setup, but now it’s risky even when you do it right…

I think it might be safe because even if you mess up the inputs you can dash cancel the FA or EX seismo out of it if you have the meter. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

still messing around with vipes/dante/ammy. I honestly think it is one of the most optimal teams for viper, lockdown assist, JS, two unblockable setups and great backup.

best 5 assists for Viper:

1.Jam session
2.cold star
3.disruptor
3…hidden missles
4.Plasma beam

Haggar Lariat and Tron fire assist are omitted because honestly, they’re cheap assists that are great for everyone and are getting nerfed in a month

It’s late so I’m probably missing some great assists so feel free to call me out on it.

i think there is one you are definetly missing drew. Sentinel force. that assist is really good for Viper

Hit a casual session last night and ran Zero (a) /Viper (a,c) /Doom (a). This was one of the first times I really had an opportunity to play extended sets against a competent player using Zero/Viper and while it’s alright both are much better off and more deadly with other partners. They just don’t help each other enough - though admittedly I didn’t expect Zero’s alpha assist to help as much as it did. But again, just not enough.

So for Ultimate I’m looking at maybe doing a Viper/Doom/?? team, similar to the Zero/Doom/?? I also want to run. Currently looking for that third member. I’m hoping Rocket Raccoon and Nova have some good stuff for me to chew on.

So, when exactly should I be using Jam sessions other than for unblockable setups and pressure? Like, how should I use it to approach? When should I be using it?

-It’s the best/most damaging combo finisher (seismo x3> burnkick
-protects vipers weak point(above 1/3 of the screen)
-keeps your opponent locked down by cutting off the screen further aiding your approach and seismo pressure
-pushes opponent back even if it’s blocked so it’s great for zoning

I love jam session but hate Dante, I replaced him with Zero assist a… not nearly as good of an assist for lockdown but works as a decent combo extender and aa

While it’s a great assist in general and allows Viper to get in, I didn’t put it because it doesn’t enable Viper to do anything beyond that.

for example, jam session and cold star are great lockdown assist and combo extenders. While Plasma beam, disruptor and hidden missiles all help Viper get in but they also offer meterless relaunches which Sentinel drones does not.

i studied some spencer tech recently.

spencer’s diagonal grapple hook assist is great for viper. in a ranged game, anyone who jumps over the wall of seismos must be wary of incoming grapple hook which will bring them straight to viper in standing position. in order to call spencer in between seismos, create a (preferably unpredictable) gap where you sj up and quickly airdash down to the ground, so you can call spencer as you continue seismo spam again.

same assist works really well mid-combo as well – you can OTG seismo sjc hptk hit feint as you call spencer, then the opponent comes right back. you can decide to launch them before they hit the ground, or let them hit the ground for a nasty reset opportunity.

DHC damage from burst time is great. it’s easy to time the opponent’s body dropping to connect bionic maneuvers which does 300k raw and a significant amount even after scaling. DHC glitch also becomes available for all you dante / ammy users ;]

inversely, spencer benefits from viper’s seismo assist, as a basic relaunch combo off of OTG grapple hook can end with seismo assist + bionic maneuvers at the end, which deals great damage and also sets up for DHC glitch. DHC glitch may not be all too important anymore, but in any case connecting to bionic maneuvers is more beneficial for spencer, it seems.

Chrisis switched Viper out for Taskmaster in the ultimate tourney whaaaaaaaa??? o_O

I saw that too… Why Chrisis?

My guess is that he wanted to keep Hawkeye and try to out-zone Honzo

Might have been way too weird of a feeling to pull off her long combos and kept dropping them? Just a guess with new hit stun deterioration. I assume for the most part the simple stuff still works with Taskmaster in UMvC3

So I made a new Viper Team. Viper/Dante/Doom…Hammer/Jam/Rocks I simply wondering how you all fell about this team. Keep in mind i’m a pad player.

Switch out rocks for hidden missiles and i feel that team would be really solid

I would put Dante last, he’s a much better as an anchor.

do any of you guys think Viper/Strider/Doom or Viper/Vergil/Doom i was thinking for Viper/Strider at the end of a combo viper can do 2 hammers then striders assist could do the teleport dive kick and and knock the opponent down then i could do burst time but do u think i can get 2 hammers before the assist hits?

Does Striders assist cause a hard knockdown? I didn’t think so.

To be honest, I don’t see alot of synergy between Viper and Vergil or Strider. However, if Viper already has Dante, Ammy, etc… then maybe you don’t really need strong synergy in the remaining slot, just another strong character.

Im thinking for Ultimate my Viper team is going to be Viper/Dante/Firebrand

Firebrand in level 3 x factor with his level 3 out there just seems insane to be.

Hell yeah!!! Looks like viper is in SFxT! That high price hottie might be the new face of the franchise. Need that relese date ASAP so I can put in my request for time off right now:)

PS. Damn now I probly got to learn yet another viper style…3 more years of training
