Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

1: In general use that set up after a kill or when you do seismo XX focus on a cornered opponent, but the part that works out the best for me is summon Jam session then shortly afterward start focus, be ready to cancel with dash into super jump in case the enemy takes the hit so you can follow up.

2: My default air throw combo for that team is:
Air throw ,-/, A+B, 623A 28, 6A+B, C xx 214A~S, C, S -/, C xx 236C~S, 9, B, B, C, 9, B, C, S xx 214S -/ C, S /-\ C, 9, C, S -/ (summon jam session) 623A xx 62369A xx 62369A xx 2147C -/ xx 214A+B DHC 214A+B, 28 S, 3CCC, 6C xx A+S, S, (summon Haggar) 623B, (haggar hits) 9, S, 623B623B, 6C xx A+S xx 214C xx C, if on Wesker depending on your starting gauge use million dollars to kill. No matter where you are on screen if you throw toward the corner the additional section in the box loop-esque area moves them far enough horizontally to bring them there. You should Kill most important characters like Wolverine off the throw.

4: (I don’t know where I missed 3 X_X) Unblockable with flame kick:
This is mainly useful if you have Acid rain on someone coming in and you have time to just time it normally, I normally try to hit with 2B at the same time as burn kick since its range and ability to follow up regardless of what technically hits second is best. Alternative hysteric XX devil trigger, Air trick, C+Viper land 2B. Depending on enemy familiarity this is an incredibly scary set up. As for following up going with crouch B for the low lets you always go straight into stand C for either cold shower or weasel shot to set up high damage follow ups you will always be able to go into stand C there, and if you mistimed it enough that they manage to block you get to go into stinger xx bold cancel reverb shock fireworks.

5: Keep away against Viper
Taskmaster Doctor Doom and Dorm are all kind of free when doing keep away against Viper, seismic hammer beats the start up of all of their ground zoning tools and Task’s air angled arrows. Dorm is going to get much harder in Ultimate but as of now if you spam seismo he has a terrible time fighting Viper, if you have 2 gauges if he resorts to chaotic flame you get to Emergency combination XX devil trigger since it eats the entire chaotic flame blast. As for assists who are better at helping you control space the top 2 for me are Magneto since he’s also the third best point character in the game along with a really fast horizontal assist, or Akuma since tatsu eats so many things. Characters who have zoning which gives Viper the biggest issue are Phoenix, Trish, and Zero since they don’t get bodied for free by seismo if they control space from the air.

Hope that helps with all your questions!

Anybody play Zero with Viper? Right now I’m trying to make Viper/Zero/Doom work
1.What assist do you have for Zero/Viper? and who starts on point?

I’ve tried Zero/Viper, but wound it pretty redundant, but I used Sogenmu (the sword rush), and Doom’s Beam.

Viper should go first, DHC from Viper to Zero is smooth, DHC the other way still works, but is really touchy.

Unless you’ve got some specific technology I don’t know of, I don’t recommend Viper/Zero.

Yeah, they feel pretty awkward together atm… I’m liking hidden missiles with viper though so Doom might stay.

Sougenmu powered up Hadangeki is like having Task arrows AKA really bloody good for Viper, Zero can actually set up unblockables with her burn kick assist thanks to how amazingly stupid his crouch B is. Otherwise unsure what’s the best stuff for those two, I’d need to do some testing with sougenmu to see if we can get around hit stun scaling as a better ender than rekoha.

I’ll bet if you time the DHC right you can do:

Burst Time>DHC>Sogenmu>Lightning loop. However, I don’t see that killing them more than Rekoha would. 99% of the time, if you DHC into anything out of Burst Time, it’s gonna kill them anyways. You can probably do a full Sogenmu combo (S>j236B) after a naked emergency combination.

Also, the lightning loop is obnoxious and very easy to drop.

If you can kill someone and have Sougenmu projectiles active for the next person coming in you can get an unblockable set up is the main reason I was considering if it would be useful or not.

I don’t really know Zero too well, but is that significant’y better than the Viper/Dante setup we have already? Or were you thinking Zero instead of Dante?

I meant Zero getting to unblockable on point in case Viper needs to recover, I have no qualms about DHCing Viper out so a double DHC won’t chip her to death.

Actually, what are Zero’s matchups like? Does he do well against Vipers enemies (Trish, Phoenix)? I’ve got some ideas for zero IM.

He does okay against those two, he has chip kill set ups for Phoenix, a fast reversal level 3 for her, and the type of normals that if you mash buttons you’ll beat Trish in air to air. His health is low enough that Trish doesn’t need real combos to kill him, but that’s about it.

My main team is Zero/Viper/Taskmaster. I use Zero on point just because I feel he’s at full potential with 2 assists backing him up. The assist I use for Zero is Handeki and for Viper Seismic Hammer. I use Handeki for Zero so I can take advantage of Sougenmu powered assist if I get the chance. The way I run this team is starting Zero on point, with Zero on point and too assists he is most effective at creating endless mixups and keeping constant pressure on the opponent. If Zero gets a touch on my opponent whether it from throw or a Cr.L that character is going to lose most if not all of their health. With Seismic Hammer assist for Viper you can utilize BIG Damage off of any through midscreen, I know you can combo off of Zero’s throw quite easily with Dante Jam Session, But if your like me and don’t use Dante, Viper Seismo is very effective for this especially midscreen where assists like Taskmasters wont work as they do in the corner. You can also continue a combo off of a naked Seismo with lvl 3 Buster or Raikosen, which also leads to Big damge. My Combo with Zero Rekouha into Burst time does a good 850-900K DMG, and 1.1 Mill with Task tacked on the end If I have the meter. I’d always like more but because of Zero’s low damage output it’s hard to get over a Million Dmg with Zero Unless your using Dante or Lightning Loop.

There’s a lot more detail and strategies I’d like to share, but I’m short on time and need to attend some important matters. But Zero/Viper is a good team if you take the time to make it work. Also Answer to your question Ve, no he does not, those matchups are bad for him as well.

I was reading the zero thread, and your right, he has the same bad matchups as Viper for the most part, so let me ask the question from another angle. What characters do beat up on Trish/Zero/Phoenix?

Thanks lots man. This helps loads. I’ll just have to step up my burn kick feints mid-combo it would seem. Playing viper as an online warrior is just really painful sometimes, the slightest bit of lag makes most of her more advanced stuff near impossible.
As for my extreme failure in counting to 4, my original plan was to put the Dante question last, i just forgot to go back and edit the 5 and make it a 3. XD.

Hey, I’m new to the Viper Thread and started playing her a couple weeks ago. I can do the box loop and hammer cancels, but I need help or your opinion on who I should run as a second character. Right now I have Viper on point and Akuma as my 3rd character and been using storm as my second, but I was thinking about putting ethier Trish, Sentinel, or Dormammu in place of storm. Which of the 4 characters would you all place with Viper/?/Akuma? And if you could, put a reason for why or why not. Thanks to everyone for the help in advance.

I tried Viper/Trish/Akuma and I didnt really like it. I dont think Trish and Akuma go well together. Akuma doesnt offer her much because she needs an otg to continue her combos.

Eiither Sentinel or Dormammu would be fine. I think sentinel would be better as drones allow Viper to extend her combos as well as get an unblockable setup. You also get good dhc capabilities between Viper and Sentinel. Akuma also helps Viper.

Another character I would consider is Doctor Doom. Every time I play this character I regret not sticking with him in the beginning. Nut now I am and he is my anchor. All three of Dooms assists are beneficial to Viper with Hidden Missiles being the best. And Akuma tatsu helps Doom as well. It will help him zone or use his own hidden missles. It helps him advance. You can also extend his combos.

I’ve got a thing for Doom Rocks with Viper. But then again I don’t really like hidden missiles on the whole (unless I’m playing Spidey). But if Doom’s you only option for lockdown and thus focus traps, I’d keep him on missile duty, not that that’s a bad thing at all.

Dark hole also works for it but timing it is different than all the others. With those potential team set ups I’d go for Viper/Dorm/Akuma or maybe even Dorm/Viper/Akuma since Dorm is one of the few characters that can get Viper in safely without a connected hit. Also with Seismic hammer assist and tatsu assist he can easily break 800K with a pretty easy mode combo.

A little while ago Chrisis and I were raving about the possibilities of Viper/GhostRider, one of the biggest reason was the long range wallbounce assist for Viper. It occurs to me that we already have something like that in Jill’s Arrow Kick assist. Not only does it wallbounce, but it also causes alot of guard stun.

I figure the best config is Viper/Jill/Dante as then Jill can DHC glitch into Dante for ToD. I haven’t done anything with it yet, but once again I thought I would mention it in case anyone else wants to play with it and comes up with anything.

I actually messed with Viper/Jill for awhile and I dont feel its a very good combo because Viper is at her beset with two assists backing up as well as Jill is the same. They do have pretty good DHC capabilities though

Doom rocks is the better assist to use with Viper but Hidden Missles is the best to use with both Viper/Trish as when Viper dies Trish can extend her combos using Hidden Missles
