Spies like us: The MvC3 C.Viper Team/Matchup Discussion Thread

You need a lockdown assist. Dante is probably the best choice.

cool thanks im not to great with dante though i have only used him once or twice  practice makes perfect though right i’ll get to the lab and practice

There are other options, but they kinda overlap with Doom a bit. I was under the assumption you were using Plasma beam.

Who would you use? i dont have to use doom  i know thats prob a really vast question but what options do i have to replace dante then i can work on doom from there.

I would use the beam personally. I know some people run Viper/Doom/Akuma with Doom on missile duty. I’m not really a doom guy, but I use IM so I like the beam+Jam Session loadout.

@CTG: I’m 90% sure it’s still in, didn’t get to check ranges and movements as much just because people were playing to kick me off quite often.

@The_Destroyer: Hitting up a few of the Starbase stream archives will help you out, his primary thing was hard knock down with Trish into round harvest, dry tag to Viper, Trijump + Wesker.

@FlyingVe: Yeah I disagree with him on it, but I clarified like 3 times with him to even get that answer. At first it was just ‘she has strong assists’.

Thanks Chrisis that was the only one I knew of I was curious to wat else. thanks ill see if he is on srk i guess maybe we can share findings

Cool thx Chrisis.

My theory for now is that since IM’s Unibeam assist is supposed to come out faster now, I may have time to Viper Ball during the block stun since it keeps them in place for so long. Nice way to land a hit from fullscreen.

Hmm I was wondering what you guys think of these teams. Ive been playing these two alot at svgl whenever I get a chance and the third one is just a theory team I am going to try out.

1. Trish(low voltage), Viper(Burn Kick), Wesker(Samurai Edge).

Its pretty easy to figure this team out. Get a hard knockdown then call in Viper and Wesker assist for an unblockable. Burn kick is used to get unblockables and extend combos for Wesker. It seems like a pretty solid team to me. The down side is I feel this team relies alot on Trish for setups and helping Viper approach. So it is risky to start her out on point but I feel it is best to put her on point just for the setups and getting viper in alot.

2. Trish(hop-scotch), Viper(Seismo), Senteniel(Drones)

I kinda like this team due to Sentential. He is a great character and is very good in helping Viper and Trish approach and keeping the characters locked down. I get an unblockable setup with Viper and Sentential drones. I also like hop scotch for Trish because it helps to extend Viper’s combos as well as control the space around Viper. Also Sentential drones help extend Viper’s combos to deal some insane damage. The down sid eof this team though is that I dont feel like Sentential does much for Trish and this team is not super low health but is kinda low health. Also seismo for Viper to help her extend Trish’s combos

3. Trish(Low Voltage), Viper(Seismo), Dormammu(Purification or Dark Hole)

Im actually gonna try this team out tomorow**, **but I figured it might be a pretty good team because purification helps as a really good AA type assist as well as a lockdown and trish’s low voltage is a good way to get Viper in on the opponent.

I actually really like both Viper and Trish so Im keeping both those characters and I do not feel like dropping either Trish or Viper cause they are both awesome lol. So let me know what you guys think of these teams. I wanna enter the toruney at san jose bar and grill august 20th so I wana pick one fo these and just practice that team and know everything about it. Thanks for any help. This is probably my favorite forum to go to as people are are really helpful and there are really no trolls here which is nice. =) Thanks for all your help. I am also open to other suggestions besides Wesker/Sentential, and Dormammu.**
**

My thoughts. You spell Sentinel funny  Anyway…

1. Trish(low voltage), Viper(Burn Kick), Wesker(Samurai Edge).
-Having trish on point would normally be the way to go, but because of your other two characters lacking an assist to allow Trish to get in as well as the way Wesker and Viper both play individually, I would have Viper as the point character for sure. Why? With Viper on point she can benefit from Trish’s Low Voltage assist to help her get in as well as extend combos. By switching Viper to the point character you maintain your teams goal of having the point character benefit from unblockables and mixups. Also, with Trish on point (Forgive me if Im wrong) you have no DHC options except Max Voltage->Emergency Combination and this would only work in the corner. With Viper on point Any combo into Burst Time->Round harvest will set you up for a variety of options with any of your characters if you do some experimenting. If Viper dies you still have an unblockable setup for Trish using Wesker’s low gun shot. With Wesker as anchor he is in that 3rd slot as your comeback man so he wont be having an assist to back him up since in most cases if he’s in that means the other 2 characters on your team are dead, and having lvl 3 XF, he wont be needing an assist to extend combos since he is going to kill off of any touch(unless you screw up lol).

2. Trish(hop-scotch), Viper(Seismo), Senteniel(Drones)
** -**I like what you have going with this team, though I have to correct you with Sentinel drones doing nothing for Trish,. Trish’s Keep away game is now very good, something you were lacking in your first team, Trish with Drones backing her up equals a really good Keep away game with top notch Space/Air control if done properly, not only that But Drones help any character get in relatively safely. Again this team also doesnt Have very good DHC options from Trish-> X, I would have Viper on point. Sentinel is also one of the better anchors in the game and can handle himself quite well on his own, especially with lvl 3 XF.

3. Trish(Low Voltage), Viper(Seismo), Dormammu(Purification or Dark Hole)
- I really dont know how I feel about this team, All 3 are Point characters or would normally be placed In 2nd. If anything though, this team would be pretty boss at zoning…Idk others may have something to say about this team setup.

In addition to saying add Dante… here’s my thoughts on the teams as is.

My thoughts:
1. Trish(low voltage), Viper(Burn Kick), Wesker(Samurai Edge).
****-Wesker should come after Trish so she can DHC glitch into Wesker. She can do this off her BnB
-Viper seems really out of place here, this team doesn’t really make sense
-low voltage doesn’t do much for wesker, I would use peakaboo.

2. Trish(hop-scotch), Viper(Seismo), Senteniel(Drones)
****-Once again put sentinel after Trish for DHC glitch
-This is better as Viper gets benifit from the drones
-Would use low voltage or peekaboo, low voltage is my personal preference
-Better order would be Viper>Trish>Sentinel
-With my order the team seems solid.

3. Trish(Low Voltage), Viper(Seismo), Dormammu(Purification or Dark Hole)
********-This team seems poor, the characters don’t seem to have any synergies at a glance
-Better order would be Viper/Trish/Dorm

Adding to this, I’ve never been a DHC glitch user as I always figured they’d patch it eventually(took longer than I thought) but Though your 1st and 2nd team have the DHC glitch available to them and can potentially ToD any character. You should take into consideration that the DHC glitch will be non existent in a few short months and you will have to reconfigure your team again. So its up to you whether you want to center your team around the glitch for the next few months and restrat later, or get the a head start setting up your teams to be efficient without it. I assumed everyone was coming off the DHC glitch which was the only reason I left out that option in my post, though i should’ve told you anyways just so you know that that option is there. So you might wanna rethink character choices or not. its your team you decide how it plays.

sorry for rambling :looney:

thanks for your help guys. actually yea I never really used the DHC glitch and I didnt even realize until you guys told me that my team had it lol. I was trying out different things because originally I was using Trish(Peek-a-boo), Viper(Seismo), Iron Man(Unibeam). But I dont really like the Iron Man changes coming up, well the losign the double jump thing. Faster Unibeam is always nice =). People at svgl told me to maybe try different characters that would pair well with those two chracters and Wesker and Senteniel were suggested to me alot lol. I was thinking Dante cause I played Drew before and he had a really good Viper/Dante thing going. So I might try out Viper(Seismo), Trish(Low Voltage), Dante(Jam Session or Weasel Shot).

Also we can play auto-correct for spelling Senteniel like that lol. But i dont mind the rambling its good because now I know more about the teams. I will try them out more.

On a side not I think Viper/Dorm might be a pretty good combination but it would be tricky to play. With Dormammu’s liberation assist he can change what his assist is. For example if you have three red things stocked you get the fullscreen otg thingy, but if you have 2 blue thingys and 1 red thingy you get an awesome meteor shower. It might be a little useful but the problem is you can only use it once and you have to get dormammu back in to recharge and then safely tag him back otu which might be difficult or burn alota meter.

But I guess I will probably use Viper(Seismo), Trish(Low Voltage or Peek-a-boo), and Sentinel(Drones).

Also i think this might work as a dhc option . Air Max Voltage-> Emergency Combination. The thing is I never really DHC from trish to Viper I juse go for the Round Harvest setups. =)

So I took both FlyingVe and D4Gamer’s advice. I switched the team order to Viper(Seismo)/Trish(Low Voltage)/Sentinel(Drones). I think this is gona be my main team here. With Viper/Sentinel I get unblockable setups and I found a combo at does over 1 mill. I posted it earlier. So I can kill almost any character. Also yea Trish/sentinel I can zone way more effectively than before. Also if I feel like it I can advance so the drones assist is raelly really good. I shoulda stuck with sentinel after the health nerf lol. And Viper/Trish are very good together. I still have the round harvest setups and I feel both of them cover each others bad matchups. Viper seems to handle magneto and taskmaster who I believe give Viper alot of trouble and Trish can zone out Wesker really well. I switch the order of this team if I encounter a Wesker because I believe Trish Wesker matchup is in Trish’s favor and is easier than Viper vs. Wesker

Good stuff man, glad you could decide on a team you felt most comfortable with. I’m a firm believer that if you really put a lot of dedication and effort in the team you’ve chosen (regardless of what characters are in it) and dont give up on it no matter the losses, you can make Wolverine/Akuma/Phoenix teams look like they need buffs. Good luck to your new team dude.

Note: Jk about the wolvy/Akuma/ Phoenix thing, that shit is broke as hell

haha thats true. I play a couple people who play that team. I dont feel like its overpowered just really easy to use. I think every character has the tools to deal with every situation given the right assist. But I did make a wolvie/akuma/dante player rage quit in the middle of a match. lol

I think I found my Viper team now. ^0^ I’m back on the Spider-Man/Viper tip, because I just can’t get over how good of a team they are. Well at least to me. :stuck_out_tongue: And besides, Spidey and red-heads are practically made for each other.

They both dhc nearly perfectly with each other, and both have relatively reasonable combos that deal alot of damage. It’s almost to the point where, if I touch the majority of the cast with either of them, that spells K.O. for them (gotta work on my viper, but I truly believe that this is the case). I can use Web Ball assists to extend the beginning-middle of viper combos (even air ones! an example was in one of the old desk videos, where viper goes from a Thunder Knuckle H cancel->air combo->j.s into web ball->etc), and I can use seismo assist for Spidey otg (since he doesn’t have one), and even a ghetto version of the Ultimate Web Throw reset (seems corner only, though, which actually is fine), which also likely means K.O. Spidey also is a GREAT battery, and has pretty much no use for 5 meters, which Viper is glad to use, of course. Their only weakness is actually a huge one, and that they both need cover and protection.

That’s why I think DOOM is the perfect anchor for them. He’s like a friggin swiss army knife – they can use ALL of his assist to great effect.
i) Beam – well…yeah, it’s a beam, not to mention the first or second best beam, so we all know why it’s good. Moving along.
ii) Missiles – Specifically good with Spidey, since because he can swing all over the screen with no problem, he doesn’t need to worry to much about protecting Doom while they come out. Works with viper too, but you just have to be very careful, and be good with zoning with seismo, it seems. But if they eventually turtle because of the missiles, you can (potentially, i think) move in for mixups.
iii)Rocks – works well with both SpiderViper, but even moreso with Viper, I think. Rocks work alot like Haggar’s lariat but without the invulnerability (which seems fine, since they don’t really need a ‘GET OFF ME’ assist), and comes out nearly as fast (10frames vs. 8frames, i think?). While the rocks are swirling around doom, they absorb all projectiles, and when he lets them fly, SpiderViper has just enough time to move out the way and press forward behind them. Works better with viper, who’s more stationary than spidey, and enjoys the protective benefits more, while spidey mainly uses the rocks for cross-up mix-ups.

It seems I found my third and final Spidey team and my Viper team all at once.

@Destroyer, I tried out that Viper/Trish/Sentinel team, and you are right, they make a good combo, I like how they feel together. I was actually surprised, because I’m personally not into Trish’s playstyle, and never considered playing her before you suggested it to me. but definitely I’m going to use them as a pocket team, for no other reason that they are alot of fun to play with (and I kinda like Trish’s walk :P). The only bad thing about them, or weakness I should say, is that they don’t always have the easiest time DHC’ing with each other…well, unless their in the corner.

Oh, and kinda random, but for some reason, Trish and Viper seem like real good shopping buddies to me…lol

Actually, if Spider/Viper is as good at meter building as you say, have you considered Phoenix? I don’t like suggesting that, but it makes sense in this case. Besides you said it yourself about Spidey and Redheads…

lmao Trish’s ass strut makes even Chun-Li jealous

You’re totally right. I was actually set on maining her before the game came out, but all the BS associated with her pretty much killed it for me. I might still pick her up, especially for Ultimate. She’s still a very good character, even before going dark, as she was the most Strider-like before we actually got Strider.

I wouldn’t use SpiderViper with Phoenix though. The big ‘no protection’ hole is still there, as I would NOT be calling phoenix to help anybody. I wouldn’t pick EvilRaasan’s (sp?) team either, as Spidey/Sent make an ‘ok’ duo IMO. If anything, I’d do Spidey/Haggar/Phoenix. I could use spidey to full effect without worrying about getting blown up too much, and Haggar is a sacrificial lamb who happens to be a total bonus if he doles out any damage (he can be scary by himself, though!). Plus, Haggar has so much life, that I think you can build a bar-and-a-half of meter just by getting beat up.
