JW Chrisis what is it about Mr. Redfield that makes you think its somewhat of an even matchup? Something that has to do with his ground control with mines, grenades. The fact that he can SJ Magnum while you are trying to seismo zone for damage? His Flamethrower which is a decent anti air? Do you think Chris is an underrated character in general?

Woo! We have some good people at Freedemonia and since you already know kinematic/tao all will be well! :D. Any character in X-factor level 3 you need to give some respect to, but Chuns often push way too many buttons and if they’re in 3 it’s always worth burning the gauge on EX seismic hammer then either rapidfiring them back out, or doing something else to re-establish your match dominance. Horizontal assists are this game’s AAAs they’re just really solid and help characters do what they want to do anyways. There is no character in the game that takes no benefit from Task arrows.

As for Chris if he has the right assists then starting your zoning game against him can be really hazardous. Unlike most characters with his grenades he can do something while a horizontal assist covers him that will control your space while he’s free to move. I think that his ability to stay off the ground and still be a threat is an issue, especially 1 set of guns arrows guns takes off like a sixth of Viper’s life on block. >.< I don’t think she loses the match up, but that he isn’t faced with the issue of attempting to zone her from the ground where it simply doesn’t work. He needs assists to fight her correctly, but if he has them it can hurt. Also he can kill her if he touches her which is pretty obnoxious for a zoning character. As stated I think Viper wins, but not by a large margin unless you have ridiculous execution, then like all other non MODOK matches he’s free. :smiley:

Our matches become more entertaining the more I xcopy your team, but I’m not dropping x23 anytime soon!

So I used Thor with Viper yesterday for the first time and as soon as I started testing stuff with them I instantly felt as if I found two characters that go exceptionally well with one another. Im still working on them but with viper on point you’re looking at a very very free and powerful assist at your side. Thor’s Mighty Smash does a hard bounce that if you leave them on the ground long enough can change into an OTG. The hit stun scaling is a bit more than I was thinking it would be but it is a powerful assist. I can still manage to get 900K or more out of two hyper meters with viper after it though. Which is really good. Even for those exceptional push blockers the Thor’s Mighty smash can still deal out a decent lockdown. And I figured out a mixup involving Burning kicks with 3 overheads one of them being a cross-up that I can exploit to around 800k damage maybe more.

This also does very well for mid-screen seismo or light seismo. Get that assist in before a seismo and on hit you’re looking at a free ground bounce or OTG depending on how fast you get there. Goes pretty well with TK as well, but im still using Tasky arrows for that one when i can.

With thor on point i could use either Seismo or Burning kick. But with BK i found 3 very easy unblockable set-ups once in with Thor. Very very powerful thing. And if they get smart with your unblockables thats when you have them in the air for an easy command throw. I’m still ass with Thor but I’m going to test this synergy out for a while. See what comes of it.

Tried it with Killey yesterday but I had some trouble only being able to pull off a couple of my set-ups.

hmm thor and viper. I tried that awhile ago but i didnt think of using mighty smash. I tried that cause thor was my favorite marvel character. I always used mighty spark. If you can get some videos it would be awesome to see you play them together. But if u find something that works with those two im stealing that team. Also another thing you can do with that team is to counter projectile supers use vipers tk and then dhc into mighty punish. i think it works

also chrisis you were so right about having a horizontal assist. i always didnt want a beam cause i wanted to be unique but wow does it help so much. the wesker matchup became alot easier =).

I little while ago I was asking about DHC’s with the Viper/Dante/IM team. This might be obvious to others, but I found you can DHC from Proton gun into Emergency combination or Jackpot if you DHC before the last few hits of Proton Cannon. However, the Emergency combination DHC won’t work in the corner without ridiculously precise timing.

IM DHCing into people in general is a tad obnoxious, though DHCing into him is pretty simple :smiley:

IM’s Beam is just too good at assisting viper as it does everything the others do but is also a great lockdown assist, and lets you combo off a fullscreen seismo.

In my opinion the best horizontal assits for Viper are:
Taskmaster, Trish, IronMan, Sentinel

Please explain Trish for me, I’ve always seen her used on peekabo assist and would love to hear about the low voltage applications. o.o

It’s not really anything special. Low voltage just has a really tall hitbox and alot of hit/guardstun (it’s much more than you’d think). I used to like it because it’s tall hitbox and speed made people not try to avoid it as much and just block it. Which in turn lets viper get in and do harm. Also, it doesn’t knock down, so you can combo off of it easier. You might even be able to use it in place of Taskmaster arrows, in the Chrisis combo (have not tested this myself). It is probably the worst of the four assists I listed, but it’s much better than people realize I think.

Also, having trish on the team gives you access to easy Unblockable setups with round harvest (when trish is on point), which effectively makes trish touch of death in many situations. Ultimately I found this unnecessary though.

Trish is pretty kool. I ended up liking her alot and keep her on my team. Shes really good at i guess you can call it antizoning on the only characters that give her trouble are magneto and taskmaster. She also has really good synergy with viper. after burst time you can dhc into round harvest and it connects. and while they are getting hit you can setup traps and re tag viper to get some more mixups. also she gives access to free unblockables with round harvest. I used to use low voltage but I switched to the peek-a-boo assist. Its decent for holding them in place but not as good as amaterasu or danta. you can use heavy th and cancel it on hit and if they land on the trap it allows you to continue a combo. Its also really good for resets. You can seismo them and after they hit the trap it flips them over so you can go for resets.

Overall she can do anything rushdown or zone but excels at zoning. She also has a really good dive kick =). Overall I find that she compliments VIper really well, and is really fun to play.

If you run Viper/Trish/Dante, DHC from burst time to Round harvest, Tag Dante in, teleport and do jS, then do the 3CCC>6C corner series for more damage and decent meter. Plus, Dante and trish work together great.

Other random notes about some of those horizontal assists.
1)Unibeam- Doesn’t push opponent at all so you can do stuff like SJ forward EXBK for an instant crossup (SF4 style) into combo. Doesn’t have to be EXBK, but EXBK gives you the combo.
2)Drones (charge) - Midscreen it’s possible to grab between the 2nd and 3rd drones on many characters. It’s great for people who like chicken blocking the drones or just in general as Vipers throw combo is nuts.

Strategy thoughts, I often switch the last character on my team as a counterpick. Different assists in that slot can really affect some matchups.

Same here FlyingVe. I play viper and trish and sometimes switch between super skrull, ironman, and amaterasu. With superskrull after I dhc into a round harvest I backdash and wait. As they are falling I then through them

The characters I tend to swap in (in place of Iron Man) are:
1)Trish - she destroys some characters
2)Tron - has great synergy with dante, and her assist can stop overly aggressive tactics cold. Oh, tron assist confirms into the death combo. BK assist helps tron open people up.
3)Doom/Ammy- These are my preferred anti-Pheonix anchors. I am admittedly bad in this matchup though.

Also, I take Iron Man out against Viewtiful Joe, IM combos get really, really, really dumb against him.

Viper Dante Doom has stupid midscreen unblockables.

Main team and I’m sticking to it until Cyclops, Thanos, Elektra or any other DLC character I want surface is:

Deadpool/Viper/Doom.

Deadpool is my favorite Marvel character and he is super fun and how I mostly envisioned him. Quick work assist.

Viper is my 4th favorite Capcom female all time and Terry Bogard on steroids. Jill is my #1 and Trish is my #3 and I have tried them both with Deadpool but Viper works better with him. BK assist.

Doom. One of my favorite Marvel villains and used to play him in MvC2 and MSH. Hidden Missiles.

Deadpool point, Viper second and Doom as anchor. X-Factor will be burned by either Deadpool or Viper at Lv1 or 2 depending of situation.

Deadpool/Doom = Chipping lock down + mix ups. Deadpool/Viper = Mixups. Viper/Doom = Regular mixups and FA mixups, counter punishment with EX Knuckle if they want to bother Doom, Viper/Deadpool = Unblockable mixups into high damage.

Dr. Doom shouldn’t see action if everything goes well. Deadpool and Viper have LOTS of synergy and if they both get whooped and if they wasted X-Factor as planned, there is only smart laming out with Doom with combo punishment if it presents itself.

If there is an X-Factor Lv3 opportunity it will better used by Deadpool because of infinite but that’s not the objective.

That team sounds potentially fun indeed! What DHCs do you use for your team?

I know that Burst Time or Emergency combination DHCs well into both guns super and into cutting time, and that guns goes well in the corner into anything of Viper’s. Viper Doom DHCs are obvious and easy, but do you have good stuff from cutting time midscreen into Viper? Able to DHC glitch it with whiffed sphere flame to Doom?

Happy I’m not the only one who thinks this. I used to play Fatal Fury at the Boys & Girls Club when I was, like, in first grade. I thought Terry was top banana for real.

I thought that Joe would have a bigger hitbox, seeing as his head is so gigantic.

On a related note, I’ve kind of been soul-searching. Trying to do something like X/Dante/Beam. I tried a few characters in that X slot. Tried a bit of Felicia, but I’m starting to realize that she’s a really bad Wesker. Thought about Wesker, but he doesn’t kindle a burning in my loins. I’m thinking of just biting the bullet and going with Viper, for the Terry Bogard nostalgia.

I’m thinking of going with either the Taskmaster or Iron Man in that beam slot. My Taskmaster is much better than my Iron Man, but I’m thinking that Iron Man would probably make for a better anchor.

I’m just wondering what each assist brings to the team. I know Unibeam lets Dante do some interesting things, like combos with two Prop Shredder launches, but I don’t really know how Unibeam can be applied to Viper combos.

Also, is it possible to use either assist to combo off of Dante’s air throw?
