It’s kind of hard to run an optimal team with Viper and Wesker on the same team. They don’t really do much for each other and neither character is specifically a super strong XF or support anchor. I would go with Doom since that works the best for both Viper and Wesker, but yeah. Doesn’t really matter which way you order the team since it isn’t really particularly stronger one way or the other. If you are going to use Viper anchor, I would suggest using crossover counters into BK feint cancels by hitting S so you can get her in without having to do an unsafe DHC and burning XF to save it.
Viper/Sentinel/Doom seems like the best, but I would put Doom second and Sent last with drones like Rayray.
Yeah it’s a tough matchup until you get space. All your fast stuff is too short to hit Wolvie other than ADD j.L or ADDF j.L (which techincally is slow since you have to jump and air dash first). I would just try to as quickly as possibly try to gain some space and get some seismo FADCs or rapid seismos going with an assist out there to cover yourself and keep him from getting in. If you can chip or snipe him and his assist enough you’ll have enough meter to scare him with EX seismo or ex thunder knuckle reliably while still being able to get a kill after. If he gets next to you before the round starts you don’t really have much other than jump away, EX move, c.L or jump forward H (with assist if you’re feeling good). The key is to get space and just get seismos and assist on the screen.
There’s some stuff I’m trying to work with chicken blocking after holding assist depending on what normals they are using, but haven’t really put it into practice to see its effectiveness.
Used to do Viper/Strange/Dante for a bit, but didn’t like how free Strange was if people got next to him and his lack of anti incoming mix up options.
Yeah she can protect him with well placed seismos and lasers and such. He’s just not the best assist to use at the start of the round against close ranged characters since bolts takes long to start up and recover. Which is why you’ll have jam session available for the closer range scenarios.
Thanks. Does Jam allow her to get off her tridash light standing light mix up game off? I know that you play Viper/Morrigan/Dante and I always wondered if you were able to get good mixups with that team. It just seems like that combo is better for zoning but a bit weak for rush.
Yeah once you get them blocking jam session you can just plink dash over or viper ball in and do stuff. If you can get behind them during the jam session as they’re blocking it that’s great, because then the jam session pushes them towards you for an easier mix up. I feel Viper is more of a zoning character that just happens to have rushdown capabilities so I just play her that way.
Looking for advice for a team i been using for the last 2 months.
Viper (seismo), thor (spark) , ammy (cold star).
I’m pretty new to viper, its bee rough but I’m getting her slowly. Thor is my favorite character and im getting his back infinite down. And im just learning ammy too.
My issues are, I’m having trouble with viper in neutral. Mighty spark is great when it’s out, but man is it slow, im also having problems calling ammy out at right time to donanything useful. At least initially take into account i would really not want to drop thor. I’m willing to make a change from ammy if it benefits viper/thor better.
Viper is the scariest character at start of round, contrary to what people may think on here. Her throw OS Focus attack will beat anything Wolverine wants to do at the start. If wolverine tries to establish space and wants to play footsies use crouching M, if you suspect an assist call you need to counter call with Jam and cover it with seismo FADC or seismo laser. Punish reckless dive kicks with EX TK as well.
I run Viper/Ammy shell too. I usually use Cold start as a counter call assist (depending on the assist) or during the neutral when Im pushing with seismo or playing footsies. Protecting ammy takes advanced knowledge with viper as a whole. Cold star covers L/M/H seismo range so any other range you need to use different assist, advance to said range, or use her laser to make them bring the fight to viper. Since ammy jumps back during the start up of cold star L seismo FADC is perfect for most advances towards an opponent. Just remember that you can only call her 3/4ths screen and you should have no more problems calling her once your learn proper seismo placement. If you want to make it easier you can drop ammy for strider, although Ammy is Vipers best assist (IMO).
Anyone have any input on how Viper fares with missiles as an assist? I’m currently learning Morrigan, and want to learn Viper in the near future and was wondering how a team of say Viper/Doom/Morrigan or Viper/Morrigan/Doom would be with missiles. Any input would be appreciated.
It’s not bad. It’s just Viper has a natural issue of having short stubby normals outside of her c.M and j.H. Meaning it helps to have a quick projectile assist to cover that issue when needed. With Viper though, if you can get the space you need and get your seismo game down well enough you can make her work with missiles. She’s great at protecting missiles once she gets going. You can also switch between using shadow blade assist to help you get started at the start of the round, or use harmonizer assist to give you extra EX meter. Then Morrigan and Doom obviously great shell also.
I’m ready to use Viper again and unsure of who to put last, Currently I have Viper,Dante and unsure of who to be the last member. Strider is strong option as seen with Drew’s team and benefits Dante too however I was thinking of Akuma too as Tatsu would help neutral game also helps out Dante. I’m all ears to suggestions an advice on this
Sumbrwnkid showed recently @ TFC that Dante/Akuma is still a very strong shell. Kind of just a matter of preference although TAC infinites are slowly becoming a more important part of the meta also. Dante takes care of most of what Viper needs assist wise so the rest would be preference based.
I think Dante/Stryder is a little stronger if you have a good sense of when to call Strider. Akuma helps neutral game a lot more though. I like playing anyone with a low hitting assist just to have unblockables. Helps Viper mix-ups too with her bk feint game.
Does Repulsor Blast help her out? Though Unibeam would be more efficient. What is the better button to charge for optic laser
Edit:
Scrap IronMan. I might try out Modok and put Amaterasu in the back instead of Strider, That gives me unblockable set up with ammy and a good assist and thc for Modok
What setups do you guys use for incoming? I’m messing around with Viper/Spencer/Strange now, and I’m just used to having vajra or jam session with Viper for incoming.
Just my opinion but drop Spencer for Dante. As you’ve discovered trading out a strong neutral assist for a combo only one presents serious issues. On top of that jam might be Strange’s best assist and bolts are great for Dante too.
The other thing is that Viper really doesn’t need it. I mean can’t she build 2 bars easily? That way you can just DHC whiff into Strange to FOF loops. Plus you get incoming unblockables with jam, into hard tag FOF loops.
Team Nemo is worth it for Nova since he has no other way to reliably land the crumple; but for Viper it’s just not IMO. Giving up jam or cold star isn’t worth it-- especially with how good Strange/Ammy and Strange/Dante just happen to be.
I’m a Spencer main, and have wanted to try him out with Viper for a while now. Considering all of the above advice, what assists benefit both characters the most, and leaves me with a solid anchor? I have been using drones, but I really want to avoid playing Sent. I also tend not to use assists that scale heavily (Doom beam, Cold Star). Any advice would be appreciated.
EDIT: I main Chris/Spencer and would like to keep at least one of them. Would Chris fit better in a Viper team? Viper(Thunder Knuckle)/Chris(Gunshot)/Doom(Missiles) ??
opinions on the most optimal point viper team? I know Chrisis is a big proponent of Viper / Morrigan / Dante, but theres got to be something just as good / better, isnt there?
