I think Imma jack Drew Grimey’s swag. Play Viper/Vergil/Strider so I can not only dominate with Viper, but have the option to kill in one hit.
Anybody play viper Trish vergil? I can get free unblockables with Trish’s round harvest+ focus attack and u know… free wins with x factor vergil. Lots of 1 mil damage combos and tods with a dhc. Really liking this team so far.
Does anyone play Viper/Frank?
This is in response to both momo and dj. I have actually found a couple ways that viper can stop jam session from pushing them back midscreen. The first was in part brought up by dj but here is my varation: cr m sth(plus jam session) use m tk feint to push yourself forward then super jump forward but add air l. This mix up will stop jam session from pushing the opponent back(if timed right).
The second way is jump forward and use air h plus jam session then h bk feint addf, you will cross up with jam session. If they manage to block it then pushback of jam session will push them towards you. This is helpful if they block jam session on the ground or in the air. Because either way you can set up a powerful mix up like l bk feint air lh.
Sorry if my description was poor i will answer questions about these mix ups if you have any.
Exactly how sure are you guys of Viper’s top tier status? She has a lot of crap you need to learn to be good with her, and I want to know for sure that my investment in her time and effort wise is a good one. I am trying to cut out all the useless characters in my pool of people I try to learn so I can focus on what is really valuable. The question isn’t so much “how high tier is she?” as “Will it be worth it to long term commit to her and make her a part of the main team?”
Also, would Viper/Morrigan/Doom or Viper/Morrigan/Strider be a better team?
Can anybody point me in the right direction for info on how Viper deals with that robot cunt?
just get better with converting off of it. Its amazing when you can convert off of any stray hit with it, it just takes execution. I usually zone with it until I have an advantage and then seismo FADC while calling it to back them into a corner or force pressure. Its obviously stronger when they are near a corner but if it hits mid screen you can usually plink up and just magic series to convert.
What are peoples opinions on the Viper/Vergil match up?
Honestly she is but if you are worried about how hard she is just play Magneto instead. Since hes a lot easier and just as good if not better. He’s also easier to build a team around.
If you dont have Jam Session, Missiles or Vajra that matchup is terrible. I just avoid that matchup at all cost and counterpick. @DevilJin01 should know about that matchup though.
I think it is in her favor 5.5 - 4.5 Vergil cant do much besides swing with st.H since she can blow up teleport + assist pretty consistantly. But if Vergil throws on swords or goes into DT you just gotta wait him out. A grounded assist (unibeam, plasma beam, arrows and missiles) help her a lot in this matchup. I usually just zone Vergil’s out then they throw on swords from full screen and then I just Burn Kick feint away till they end.
I personally don’t think the Vergil matchup is that big of an issue since you only really have to worry about it if he’s in the first spot. At least the majority of the time. If he’s in the second or 3rd spot you usually don’t even have to fight him as long as you kill the opponent in the corner and then just unblockable, guard break or hard to blockable him. On point you’ll just have to keep seismos on screen and be ready to focus dash through teleport mix ups.
If you were talking about Zero by robot cunt…yeah you definitely want an AA assist for that matchup. Zero likes to be lame in the air so calling an AA assist and doing cross up super jump burn kicks inbetween the assist can be good for putting pressure on him and possibly converting into a combo. It’s probably the easiest to do with Vajra, but it can work with other assists also.
Yeah I play V/D/S so I have jam session and vajra. Aren’t sj burn kicks unsafe though?
If the opponent is on the ground they can be, but if they are in the air (especially during a welcome mix up) it’s safe enough.
I feel as if Viper is at a slight disadvantage at start of round since, Vergil’s walk speed is so fast, he doesn’t have to deal with any of Vipers options and forces her to play the neutral at his pace. I want to say the match up is around 4.5 - 5.5 Vergil, Vipers saving grace in this match up is her fast normals and focus attack.
Yeah I was mostly talking about on point, but I personally don’t feel as if Vergil is free on incoming in the second or third spot. After all he does have a wall jump which is sort of like a pseudo double jump.
You have to jump first in order to do a wall jump so wall jump isn’t available to Vergil during incoming mix ups. Same goes with characters like X-23, Felicia, Wolverine etc. who have wall jumps but no other type of jump movement. His wall jump is only really useful when he’s in Devil Trigger where he actually gains the air movement to use it sometimes and even then it still moves him nowhere near as far or as quickly as 23’s or Felicia’s.
He’s free as hell to mix ups in the corner. Especially once guard breaks become regular there is literally nothing he can do other than hope you screw up the guard break. Which can happen and even then he still has to deal with hard to blockables, unblockables and the fact that Viper can focus or EX seismo any button or super he tries to mash and kill him off.
If he’s falling in mid screen it’s a bit easier for him to escape…but with the right assists not by much. In general if he’s falling in in the corner he should not get a chance to play if you’re using Viper.
Really everyone except Sentinel, Morrigan with 3 meters and Phoenix will be pretty free to Viper’s mix ups or inescapable set ups in the corner eventually.
I’ve been reading this thread for a while (I haven’t read it on it’s entirety of course) and i haven’t seen anyone mention a Viper/Wesker Team. This two are my favorite characters, the ones that look the coolest and the ones i enjoy the must. From my noobish perspective the biggest problem with the team is that C.Viper needs to be point but at the same time she doesn’t get much benefit from a Wesker assist.
I really don’t care about the positions or assists to use. Also i don’t care much about which would be my third character. With that in mind, Is there a way to make those two work together on a team?
Unknown (local top player) has been using Viper/Sentinel/Wesker for a long time. It works well because you can always DHC into Wesker after Viper dies if you need to give Wesker an assist. The team also isn’t bad with Viper anchor because Viper anchor can take control of the neutral pretty easily with XF and EX seismos stocked. You need one character in there that provides strong support in the middle.
Sentinel sounds good, it’s a character that i’m fairly familiar with and i also like. Thanks for the help.
Starting to play and construct a Viper team, but I’m kind of at a loss on who I should put on my mid. I start Viper and then I have Strider on Vajra, my options for a mid come between Taskmaster (horizontal assist) just to cover her or Nova with the Centurion Rush assist. Would love to get any input from you guys :).
As far as the team construction, I really like Nova and I’m not sure if his assist is just fluff for another launch. For me it seems like their synergy is decent after a BnB super from Viper DHC into Nova super. When it comes to task, I mean he builds great meter but it seems like the synergy with him is kind of off with the team as a DHC into up arrows I can’t really do much. But any more input would help
Hey Chrisis quick question. I’ve recently been playing viper/dante/strider and the team is definitely broke. However, I’ve never really had any fun playing as strider. I know you believe that Viper/Storm/Dante is strong but why? Is it because of how Whirlwind helps viper’s zoning or the fact that storm adds damage to vipers combos? Or is it because storm is really good with jam session? I’d just like to know your thoughts because storm seems like she could be really fun.
Gotnoskill used to play Viper/Strider/Task or something like that. Not a bad team. DHC’s may not be perfect but if you optimize combos sure it shouldn’t be terrible. At least his supers are good for clearing up the neutral.
Nova can work, although you’ll have to forego having a safe DHC and not really be able to save Viper from trouble very often. That’s fine though since his human rocket super can destroy projectile spam if you know you can get it in safely.
