I’m trying to play a Viper(seismo)/Dorm(black hole)/Magnus (beam) team. Basically, viper has a beam and a lockdown assist to help her open people up/get in. The black hole is just long enough to charge the focus attack unblockable fully (hyesz). If viper brings the opponent down low enough to where Dormammu’s ball dhc will kill the opponent and still have some hits left I can rawtag back into viper, call dorm, charge unblockable and I’m not sure if it’s escapable. If not, then there are some cool things you can do with Viper to dorm DHC wise aside from burst time -> chaos flame. If viper is alive with dorm on point her seismo can help him relaunch easily, and magnus beam allows dorm to do stupid easy cross up teleport shenanigans and get in. The only thing that I’m having trouble with is that I don’t like using dormammu’s assist when relaunching with viper, is it possible to meterlessly use magneto’s assist for this? I don’t like using dorm’s because after burst time -> stalking flare you can charge 1blue 1 red and bring the opponent down, call viper assist, forward+H, L black hole into chaos flame for stupid damage.
it is possible to relaunch with magnetos beam, with meter just seismo then cancel into EX burn kick wherever in the combo.
However it is possible meterless but its very difficult and executionally demanding and corner only it may be possible mid screen but i havent test it. So far ive only found this possible with a very basic combo of ( S,super jump H, j.H, S) you cant do much more than this as the hitstun detoriation is very finicky. as soon as you land you will need to (Dash back+ assist[disruptor]>Seismo at the same time as magneto comes forward then super jump cancel air dash forward as fast as humanly possible J.H J.S land into combo of your choice)
its really not worth it and pretty hard to do in training mode let alone in a match but i guess you can keep it as an extra combo if you land a launcher only. You are probably better off learning vipers burnkick feint combo tbh. the damage you will lose will get negated by your dorm extension lol.
You can learn vipers bk feint combo with disruptor or if youre lazy you can stick it at the end of your viper combo with seismo xx time since it hits once it will combo inbetween the super and you can get your dorm extension too so pre dorm dhc you will have about 780k before viper dhc’s
I see. I’ve been doing LMH Dp. L, ADF, j.H, j.S, (land), M, H, Dp. L, ADF, j.H, j.S, M, H, S, M,M,H, double jump, M, H, S, burst time. it does pretty good damage and I’m satisified with it. but if the bk feint combo does more than I’ll definitely try it, as hard as it is
you can add one thunder knuckle feint before the dp L or 2 if you dont jump in btw and yeah learning the burnkick feint combo will push your viper damage potential to the limit just learn it bit by bit its a bitch to get your head round but everyone here will give you good help if you need it! making you viper as scary as possible makes you more formidable too
After watching Aftershock, Drew Grimey and K Beast have such SICK fucking Viper teams - very optimal, indeed. Drew Grimey’s team being able to kill off any hit OR grab is genius - using both assists for combo extension AND/OR utility - dang, man. Then both those teams are still hella buff when/if Viper dies.
If anybody hasn’t seen those Aftershock vids, WATCH THEM - what a good time for Viper players to take notes from those two! Huge congrats and props to those guys. It really makes me realize how much of a scrub I am, lol!
I take back my previous statement of Viper not needing assists for combo extension - if she can get that coupled WITH utility, wow.
Using Viper (burn kick)/Skrull (stone smite)/Sentinel (drones) now and getting a lot more easy damage from using stone smite to do some really cool extended combos - stone smite might be better than tenderizer for Viper, not sure. Does anyone have opinions on Skrull’s stone smite assist versus his tenderizer for Viper?
With tenderizer you may be able to get some nice unblockable setups on incoming. Try seismo+ call skrull, jump cancel into focus attack. I’ve never seen it, but one could probably make it work.
Ms.Viper(BurningKick), Dante(JamSession), Magnus(Disruptor)
Thoughts, opinions, suggestions anyone??Looking to make this my main team. Been playing Dante a while now, started really practicing my Magnus lately and got around to practicing Viper yesterday…have a solid 750k BnB so far from anywhere using one EX Seismo in it and looking to practice my FADC’s,BK feints and Rapid Seismo’s next
I played around with that team for a bit. I think it’s the way better order of KBeast’s team IMO. It’s a pretty solid team, but I suggest learning the staircase loop if you want more damage
Yea I started trying that out today, frustrating as hell til I saw I was trying it with H Bk instead of the M one.Haha.Can hit the j.H after the feint now but gotta learn how to time the S to start the loop.Teamwise tho I’m on the fence between Vergil/Dante for the 2nd spot with Viper and Magnus.I know Dante’s better for Viper specifically but I’m use to playing him with Vergil for a combo extension, without it my BnB’s net 680k at best and he’s another quite technical char too.Where as Vergil I lose a good assist for Viper but I get that godlike DHC and he’s much easier to handle for me.Sorry for the paragraph.LoL.Just not sure who I should really go with between em for my 2nd spot
Hey all, couple questions:
1 - Does Viper work well with Sent drones? Can she use them in combos? How does she use them in the neutral (let’s say against super jump happy players for example)? Incoming mixups (like unblockables for instance)?
2 - Doom or Magnus? I cant seem to decide, with magneto the beam scales your dmg less and is faster however doom has the better TACs, extends your combos and is overall a better support character for Viper (and everyone else in the game)
3 - Does she have time to set up unblockables solo off kills from her qcb super (or any other killing blow really) if the incoming character does not have any type of air mobility?
I know that was more than a couple but any help is much appreciated
-
she can use basically any assist for her combos. One example for sent drones would be calling drones during a launcher, air series xx h bk - opponent falls into the drones - into another jump mhs or even a relaunch if it’s early in the combo. For neutral game just call sent and protect him witch seismo’s/laser, this is also a way to prevent the opponent from superjumping. You can setup an unblockable with drones by doing meaty L seismo jumpcancelled into fa. This loses to pushblock, but if they do they’ll still land into the drones and you can recreate your offense. If they hav no air mobility though, just skip the seismo and it’s basically guaranteed.
-
personal preference. If it’s for viper, pick doom. If it’s for the character, pick magnus. Though disruptor isn’t bad for viper, i play that duo too.
-
the timing is pretty strict cause you have to hit them while they’re still airborne, but it works. It also depends on if they have an air super though.
Thanks don, good stuff.
Does anyone know any good synergy between spider and viper? I was thinking of doing Spider ( web ball) Viper (burn / seismo) Strider (vajra). Spider should be able to get unblockables with burn kick on wake up. As well as burn kick setting up spidermans UWT resets. Seismo on the other hand let’s spider combo more easily from hard knockdowns. Viper / spider / strider gives viper a horizontal assist, but f web swing helps with combos I may use that instead.
Been messing around with an interesting/fun team in practice mode – Viper (burn kick) / Dante (jam session) / Felicia (rolling buckler~low slide).
The team could potentially run in any order. The DHCs aren’t spectacular, but Dante gives you a safe DHC with his Zebra Install and his qcf+AA connects from anything. Felicia’s DHCs don’t seem the best, but I guess her alpha counter thing is invincible at least so that’s kinda neat. If you have either 2 hyper bars, Viper/Dante or Felicia/Dante, the double assist button hyper-thingy (is that “THC”?) would be awesome on block xx XFC (practically guaranteed kill on block). Viper gets her nasty incoming unblockable setup with jam session. If Dante gets put on point he has access to a low assist and/or an overhead assist for his grapple reset and stinger~teleport setups. Not sure how well Felicia benefits from jam session, I guess the lockdown would be nice for her - but Felicia with an overhead assist like burnkick sounds nice. Any one of these characters can probably hold the anchor position down pretty well. Does anyone have any experience with this team, specifically working Felicia into the mix?
A cool hardblockable setup in the corner with Viper/Felicia starting with Viper’s burnkick~S cancelled to j.L, j.H overhead opener…
Grounded L burnkick~S cancelled into j.L+ buckler assist, j.H, land, and immediately do another L burnkick~S cancelled into j.L, j.H. If they don’t pushblock one of the first two overhead hits they are so fucked. If they pushblock the second overhead (j.H), the string is still safe from what I can tell – the best thing to do to get out of it is pushblock the very first hit and immediately do an invincible move like EX seismo or a fast hyper or something. I don’t think anyone will ever pushblock it very often anyway because it’s hard enough just to block the initial overheads and if those first couple overheads hit, it all combos as well! If they do start pushblocking that opener, that should be easy enough to take advantage of if you anticipate it. A net of around +990K using jam session and two meters (assuming Dante is next in line) is possible after opening them up with this hardblockable. I recorded this setup and tried blocking it for a good 5 minutes and couldn’t block it once or jump out of it once the first overheads get blocked – it’s tight! The only thing I could do was alpha counter it or pushblock the very first hit and jump or EX seismo, so it’s a relatively good setup. (I think it’s much tighter than the Dante/Felicia hardblockable setups). Of course the computer can block it every time on “all block,” lol. I made a vid showing the setup in slow mo, you can see that it hits high~low~high within just a few frames.
A combo that one could use in the corner on hit OR block after this setup is:
(after they get popped up in the air from the hardblockable part) st.H xx L seismo, sjc, air dash, j.H xx [L burnkick~S cancelled, j.H, j.S] x3 (land), st.H, (very slight delay to let them drop a little if needed), st.S, j.M, j.M, j.H, jc, j.M, j.M, j.H, j.S, (land), call jam session, L seismo, jc, j.S xx H burnkick, (land), immediate qcb+AA hyper then Dante’s qcf+AA hyper. I’m not sure if that’s optimized, but it was easy to think of.
Kind of on the high-execution side of things, but it’s hella flashy, does decent damage and seems (to me) to be completely practical. I mean, it’s nothing a Viper player can’t handle, lol.

Its a solid team. Its only super scary in the neutral if you keep Viper alive but that’s kinda the point any way. Dante is pretty self sufficient and has solid tools for dealing with most projectile or lame out options on his own.
Since you don’t have a projectile assist for Dante you’ll have to do some HAM stingers or charged air plays to deal with some zoning games. Felicia provides a great assist for Dante and Felicia is basically a better Wesker anchor with better dhcs and assist. Plus better at staying in on pushblock. Her air throw game especially in XF3 is even harder to avoid than Wesker’s.

Strider assist is ideal for viper/dante. Unless you really want to play felicia, try him out.
I say as long as you got jam session you’re good to go since Jam Session is strong enough in the neutral for Viper as long as you work on your hit confirms after landing jam session. It’s also a strong anti hidden missiles and vajra assist and laser also counters both hidden missiles and vajra assists unless you’re fighting against a super spammy point like Hawkeye or V.Joe. You’re better off not having Strider than not having Jam Session basically if you’re going to go that route.
Joining the the train and going full retard/optimal. Viper/Dante/Strider. This bitch has no ceiling my god. It took me a couple hours to get the stair loop down but that confirm off of jam session is so lovely.
Yeah, there’s SO much that Viper and Dante can take advantage of from Strider (I used to run Strider anchor and probably still should but, whatever). I think that V/D/S is a much better team than V/D/F, it’s just that V/D/F is kinda different, cool, & fun - it offers a different kind of gameplay with the low assist for hella mixups. Like DevilJin said, as long as jam session is in the mix, Viper should still be taken care of.

…adding to the Viper/Felicia dynamic – a cool, simple reset setup with Viper/Felicia that can work anywhere on screen:
(opener), [H xx qcf+M~S] x2, L+buckler assist xx H burnkick (opponent recovers between the L and burnkick), qcf+H~S, super jump forward, j.H xx [qcb+L~S, j.H, j.S] x2, H, S, air series, ender, blah blah blah.
The point here is that during this combo you go for a reset while leaving the opponent in a standing position (which may or may not be a risky thing to do, I haven’t tested this on real people yet or had much time to really dig into it myself). After two M thunder knuckles you can link the standing L which will quickly reset them in a standing position – so if you use buckler assist with standing L, right when the opponent recovers, the buckler will be coming at them (as well as a burn kick). This isn’t as ridiculous as the corner hardblockable setup I wrote a few posts ago, as in, it should be a LOT easier to block than that one – but this is more of a quick reset kind of thing. I think it’s still pretty safe and I would assume people would eat this all the time.
Using tactics like this could save Viper some meter (more EX moves, ^_^) and could keep Viper from having to DHC out to kill off characters – seems like a good idea on paper at least.
