i have zero for those matchups so idc, was just curious. thanks for your input i think i’ll run vergil
Yeah the thing about Vergil burning meter is overrated. He’s one of the best meter builders once he touches you in the game also.
i suggest viper/vergil/ammy…it’s a pretty darn good team, but i might also just be saying that cause it’s my team and i love it
the only way i would like it better was if vergil’s rapid slash assist blew through more things and didn’t push the enemy away from me
input on a viper / dorm team ? these are the two characters i have the most fun with and im curious if yall think they might be able to work on the same team. I know both of them are meter reliant characters, which is my main concern. Im also relatively new to viper…I can combo with her (Box loops + a few corner combos ), but im still getting used to her neutral and her movement options. I have a ton of fun with her because I like pushing buttons, but I also love dorm…hes just such a badass in the comics and Ive always liked his character. Anyways, any input would be great. Thanks.
also: im running Viper / Dorm / Hawkeye
From my experience with Viper so far, she can build plenty of bar for anyone to come in and wreck with. I’d be more concerned with the fact that both Dorm and Hawkeye are going to want lots of meter and they can’t both reap the benefits of a battery Viper as well as just one individually. If you’re particularly good at building your own meter with either of these characters that becomes less of a problem.
NP the team is really creative, I was actually using that team to find out what the other sparda bro had to offer. Its not as flashy as my team (Viper, Dante, Ammy) but its super effective! Clear cut and too the point. Good tourney team for sure! offers both of the best of UMvC3 (flash, and effectiveness).
Well in MastaBlaes team, TBH from a synergy standpoint, the team will suffer if intelligent meter management is not exercised. It is an excellent chemistry though, and with smart play Vergil swag combos will usually end up meter neutral if not positive if resets and mix-ups are used. In a team built around vergil, yes his combos usually result in a plethora or meter gain.
Viper dorm can work if you are creative enough. Characters with install supers will make for some interesting combinations if you play a Viper/x/Dorm team. If not I feel as if doom would be best for dorm and viper collectively. You can make anything in MvC3 work if your willing to put some serious thought and work into your team! Good luck bro.
Does Viper/Strange (Balthakk)/Iron Man (Repulsor) sound like a good team? It’s mostly inspired by jhvidst2’s Iron Man video.
been playing viper/dante/strider. any idea if that team has good syngry or should i take out a character?
They have very good synergy. Viper/strider is a top tier shell. Dante/strider is also very powerful.
Jam session gives viper easy unblockables and million dollars does a cool 200k which will kill the majority of the cast after a full viper combo.
So who said that Viper/Magneto lost the synergy? In the neutral, distruptah does everything that it did in vanilla and in combos all you gotta do is use the assist in the beginning my Viper/Vergil/Magneto combo is hitting 919k without the staircase loop, builds almost 2 bars… I’ll check the numbers with that later but I usually don’t do the loop since it’s not the combo you wanna rely on in a tournament
I don’t think anyone said it. He’s still a really great character for Viper for many reasons. And EM disruptor is still boss. It’s just when Vanilla was gone everyone had seen MP change to doom because he wasn’t able to do his relaunch combos anymore. That and it wasn’t soft knockdown. That helped Viper convert some situations into combos. Sure yeah the assist and such was nerfed but the synergy is all still there.
Edit: This kind of gave me a reason to try a whole different team with Viper going into Ultimate. The change of EM, Mag’s combos and dante’s changes. Instead of learning them all and dealing with nerfs i decided to start fresh.
yeah, but you got Taskmaster now
Leaving magneto for taskmaster is like leaving a hot chick for an ugly chick
a really really ugly chick
Havent checked this thread in a while. Damn Viper/Vergil/Strider has really gained some popularity. Been grinding that team since AceKillah helped me out in this thread, pretty sick stuff. Shoutout to DrewGrimey for rippin it up at the fgtv house and all those videos to jack some sweet tech from.
I’m kinda curious about the team DevilJin is playing though with Doom(Missiles) in the middle and how it compares to the Vergil there. Doom/Strider is still a pretty solid duo. Obviously Missiles are far better than Rapid Slash as an assist in general but I’m not 100% sure where I would use them in place of Strider who already controls vertical space pretty well. Sure you lose the ToDs from Spiral Swords DHC but Sphere Flame DHC seems to do solid damage anyway and from a throw you always have the option of the steezy Doom TAC for even more damage. It seems like Doom might make for a better rounded team in the Viper/Strider sandwich? I dunno, I’ll mess with both.
I’m mainly just using Doom because I like him as a character more than Vergil and I like how missiles pretty much stacks Viper with two powerful neutral assists. That way when one assist cools down, I can quickly switch to the other assist since the assist that you did not use will activate faster than waiting for the used assist to recharge. Allowing me to keep assists on the screen with the seismo coverage often almost like you can in MVC2 or Skullgirls (in those games, the cool down to re use the same assist is much faster so it’s easier to keep the same assist out on screen often). In Skullgirls there is no cool down for both assists on a 3 person team. You just have a typical green light/red light thing. Once the light turns green (which is pretty quick after the assist recovers off screen) you can use either assist again.
Hidden Missiles also gives her really easy combo extension and in a game where touches of hits can kill you very easily, an assist that forces people to change their offense or stop what they’re doing to block even after doing stuff that’s usually guaranteed like throwing you is really strong. The assist doesn’t really work for everybody as well as people make it out to be, but Viper does a great job covering the start up and using it in her neutral. It’s a really great compliment in general to have with Strider assist since it gives you the only 2 assists in the game that cover the aerial AND TRACK the opponent. There’s 150 assists so might as well use the only 2 with tracking properties with all of these characters that be flying and shooting shit above your head.
Generally I’ve been using Doom since Vanilla (where I used him as anchor) so I’m used to using him with or without an assist and with/without XF. Strider helps cover his biggest issue which is not having many options to deal with people being lame at the top far corner of the screen. Plus the mix ups and conversions he can do off the hard knockdown from Strider assist on aerial hits is nasty. If Doom dies, long as Strider touches the ground you always got another chance to win as long as you hold onto your XF. Which on a team with point Viper I personally don’t feel there’s much reason to burn XF early like Marlin Pie usually does. Once you learn optimal combos just hold on to that shit.
I also like that Doom has better options for dealing with incoming mix ups than Vergil. Vergil pretty much has helm breaker to try to move around a welcome mix up which means it’s really easy to put him in a meaty situation. With Doom if they don’t do a real meaty set up you have front and back sided hit box with S dive, an 8 way air dash and flight as options to choose how to try to escape a welcome situation. If you know they’re gonna be able to get close enough to you for a tight meaty or just feel like not taking the risk you can always block too.
disruptor is for sure still good and i wanted to run that team, but viper pretty much has no lockdown which is kind of ass.
Yeah disruptah works better with characters that can left/right you from across the screen so the lockdown isn’t as necessary.
I’ve been trying out some Viper(Seismo)/Vergil(Rapid Slash)/Arthur(Daggers). I might make this my main Arthur team. What do you guys think of this team?
Sounds like a variation of the Taskmaster anchor version of that team. The nice thing about Arthur’s assists is that short stuff characters like Morrigan and Ammy can’t crouch it so it keeps Vergil’s left/right mix ups strong against those characters. If you somehow find a way to get Arthur’s daggers golden you can pretty much run a train in the neutral in some matches…although it’s a bit unpractical normally unless you’re trying to find a way to get Dark Vergil to come out later. Regular daggers are good enough though.
Arthur has questionable comeback ability as anchor unless they burn their XF early…but the support for Viper and Vergil is pretty solid at least as an assist.
Yes, I’m well aware that anchor arthur is overrated/misunderstood and I’m glad to finally see someone else who understand how he works as anchor. He is the character on this team that I am most familiar with by far though. I will never try to armor up arthur for his assists. I don’t use armor unless I’m sure I can win before it breaks. I also tend to XF2 somewhat often with vergil to convert off a helmet breaker(probably a habit from my main team). Looking around, there actually seems to be quite a bit of Viper/Vergil going on. So, can anyone tell me how does viper take advantage of rapid slash assist?
