Hey toodles
Just wondering if you have plans to implement a spark version for other sticks like LS-32/56 in the future
edit: now that I think about it it seems it would probably better to just use a diffrent springs because people generally have preferences on sticks because of there micro switches and in that case that would void the need :looney:
He’d have to research the LS-32 and -56 as much as he did the JLF. It took him a few years (at least 2-3) to figure out how to reverse-engineer a Flash PCB for the JLF.
It might not or might not take as long to engineer a Flash PCB with the LS-32-01 and -56-01 but keep in mind that Seimitsu joysticks are NOT created equal. There are distinct differences in feel and movement even between similar joystick lines and the only Seimitsu joysticks that have identical PCB’s are the LS-55 and LS-56 series. That PCB can be fitted into an LS-33, yes, but technically there is no LS-33-01 in production.
The problem I’d see is the levered microswitches on the Seimitsu PCB. A Flash PCB can’t have those, and if you get rid of them, you really don’t have a Seimitsu joystick anymore. The LS-32(-01) in particular would feel almost exactly like the JLF without the microswitches. The LS-40 about the same as the LS-32 under the same conditions.
Spark/Flash has nothing to do with gate choice or spring tension. People can do what they want with their joysticks and it doesn’t affect the Spark. The Spark PCB just eliminates the need for microswitches and hence the Spark-equipped joysticks don’t make anywhere near the noise as microswitched joystick.
I still kind of wonder myself why people complain about the noise level of joysticks – they’re not that loud unless you beat them to death(!) – and for me acquiring a Flash is more of a curiosity/hobby thing. (Plus, I already told Toodles I’d buy one and I want to keep my word…) It WON’T make anyone a better player or improve the JLF performance noticeably.
Considering most joysticks come stock with JLF’s, it’s the owner’s problem if he wants to install another joystick. There’s not going to be a huge market to re-equip Seimitsu sticks with Flashes. The JLF’s far more popular just about everywhere the HRAP’s or TE’s are sold.
Wow Georgy just wow has anyone ever told you talk a lot or in this case type a lot lol… every time I see oh George has left a reply I know its very and I mean very extensive but thanks I have been around the biz a few years and I own most or have played on all the stick’s you mentioned I was more or less checking to see if it was something Mr. Post was considering but the more I considered it my self it made me think time+effort would not be worth it
Actually, there are plenty of people who prefer and do play better w/out the need to click switches. Optical-based switches can provide a different level of precision that you just cannot achieve with simple clicks. This is all in preference and how the user plays. I can tell you this much, after using a JLF, and various forms of Seimitsu sticks, I can tell a big difference in how each one plays and how each approach has their respective goods/bads. For example, the LS-56’s throw distance (you barely move the stick and you activate a switch) is horrible for double-tapping/dashing, b/c you absolutely have to go to neutral before you can tap again. Conversely, a JLF’s throw is far, making double-tapping a direction a snap. This is great for Ryu players to fadc after hitting a SRK, but it’s somewhat an issue on the LS-56. For a Gief user though, how quickly you can hit a SPD with the LS-56 vs the JLF is amazing.
For the sound, people are picky :). Actually, when I used the Dreamcast CvS2 ascii optical stick, I really did enjoy how “fluid” it felt. For that matter, you can play in relative silence with an optical. For example, my GF hates it when she stays at my place when I wake up earlier than her to hit up some SF4 b/c of the joystick noise.
Models for joysticks other than the JLF are almost certainly not going to happen. The development time isn’t a big deal, but the production costs are so high that there is zero chance I’d break even in less than 10 years.
heres an easy fix for those people trying to run it on ps2/ps1 or any 3.3v system.
simply connect the power of the spark or any optical stick to a usb cable. ignore the D+ and D-.
connect the u,d,l,r as you normally would. i think you’ll need to connect the ground too but the USB cable should take care of it.
theres a USB slot on the ps2 and it should work perfectly to power the optical stick. for ps1 or any other system without a spare USB port, just plug the usb cable to any live usb socket.
It’s very difficult sometimes for new people to read threads and know what’s going on sometimes because the more experienced modders and players talk in short-speak…
I still come across a lot of things I like explained because A) the Search function at SRK doesn’t always work well when you want specifics; and B) I hate having to re-read 300+ posts to find one small fact. Some little thing that could keep from buying the right equipment or spending more than I have to.
One habit I’ve gotten into is keeping small plastic parts and screws that may come in handy. What may be ruined for one stick could a useful patch for another project… It’s a lot cheaper to keep smaller parts than to throw everything away in the long run!
After playing w/ the proto for an hour or 2 last night I must say Im in love! This stick is so smooth and engage points are nice and close. I am using jlf&ls32 spring w/ gt-c gate. Im converting all of my sticks to these when released!
Just so you know, I’m cool with criticism, public or private. XMetal thinks the sensitivity is a tad too high, and I’m working on getting him a less sensitive one to test out. Play with it, and offer any feedback you think is appropriate, but just know I’m very serious about it; I want honest feedback, so I can tweak it to how you like, and so I can set the sensitivity on the production version to a spot that will make all but the impossibly picky bastards happy.
I would be happy if it was as sensitive as a JLF or if you added a modicum of extra sensitivity. I haven’t tried one yet, but I feel like the JLF would be the ideal for both mass appeal and playability.
I completely understand and am very black and white. I love the sensitivity as is so far. I played using bith shotos and charge characters and found most combos easier than normal.
