Too bad they still lost to my Makoto and Yun.
Oh and I actually found a little bit of competition in Naha yesterday. I was rusty on the Japanese sticks, but once I got used to it, I started getting into my groove. A lot of the players there were parry happy, especially trying to parry Meaty attacks. Caught me off guard the first few times, but after that he at a lot of combos he shouldn’t have. I also forgot how much of a bitch it is when Dudley gets you in the corner.
did anyone catch the casual at ts3 when a urien player threw out a and agies against Red? wong tried to walk up and grab him but the guy teched it and thus pushed him into the agies which was behind him, mad cool setup.
anyone know how many frames magnetic storm is?
The thing about this match up is that Yun has to use his dive kicks ALOT less. I believe that the shotos Dragon Punches take alot out of his game. He’s not as ground based as Yang either. Against someone like Chun Li, you can usually do alot of dive kicks, but agains Ken, you would have to use dive kicks very sparingly.
I would say that you should only do it when you’re in good distance to cross him up with it. Or in the corner is good too, just make sure you’re gonna end up on the other side.
For Alex
Alex has a severe disadvantage here, especially if Chun Li has meter and the player can do her links. There is not much he can do other than poke with low strong, low short, whatever. You can be risky and go for empty jump into throw. But Chun Li has an answer for everything Alex has.
For Urien
Relax, build meter. Urien has killer Aegis traps against Chun Li. Urien with meter > Chun Li with meter.
For Yang
EX mantis slash and max distance dive kicks can get you in. If you have good reaction, I bet you could EX mantis slash Chun Li while she’s recovering from her moves. It’s not free, I’m just assuming the other person’s not expecting it. Yang has the advantage in this matchup.
For Yun
Again, Yun with meter > Chun Li with meter.
For Makoto
Depends on how well the other person can pull off those links. If Chun Li can space herself, then Makoto’s going to have a hard time getting in. Random dash into throw will get you killed. I would think that she’s in the same situation as Alex and all you can do is poke from max distance.
For Ken
Go for your cross up! Not much that I know of. I hate Ken.
For Hugo
Personally, I think you’re screwed. But if anyone knows more, then speak up!
the only thing that i noticed is that you have to be EXTREMELY patient!!! let her throw a poke first then counter poke with c. strong or c. forward. it is risky to try to advance on her with throw mind games because of his slow speed and her fast links.
I think a lot of people are confused on why Yun/Yang have an advantage over Chun Li. I’ve never really played too much of this match up, but I feel like I’ve seen enough of it to make an educated discussion. I think the main thing to focus on are those dive kicks.
Dive Kicks
We’ve all heard about how Yun/Yang’s dive kicks are good against Chun Li. The problem is, a lot of people are assuming that you can abuse the hell out of them. That’s not the point. Dive kicks are good, but they can still get you killed.
Example, if you blatently jump in and do a high hitting dive kick, you’re gonna land and get thrown/supered. The key here is to dive kick so you hit late (and low!) and have time to jump up again and do some more. It’s hard to say in words, so I’ll just say practice placing your dive kicks.
Here’s a simple scenario to get you started. You throw Chun Li and she doesn’t quick rise. You super jump towards her and do a roundhouse(?) dive kick and it hits her late. You immediately jump up again. At this point, you can do another dive kick if she went for a throw, or just a simple jumping roundhouse if she tries to meet you in the air. You need some good reactions. The thing about this is, she cannot throw you because you recover before she leaves block stun, and are ready to jump again before she tries to throw you.
I guess a good example of this is watching Hsien’s Yun vs. Arturo Sanchez’s Chun Li at Texas Showdown 1. Hsien had no problem getting all over Arturo’s Chun Li. Study it and practice practice practice!
If you’re Yun, running away and building meter for Genei Jin works well since Chun Li is so easy to juggle.
Hope this wasn’t too vague. I need to get some games in.
you’re right about that match up…the more I play it it, the less I fear Chun…the real key to dive kicking the hell out of her is to just mix up your dive kicks…cross ups, whiffs, high, low…you can hit her high, and it’s fine if she didn’t see it coming because she still can’t do anything about it…i would not hit her high too often cause you eat back fierce into super after she parries it…>ouCH< but she can’t parry it if she doesnt see it coming…a few whiff dive kicks into command grabs should keep her from trying to parry all of your dive kicks…
i dont know…someone play her tonight and prove me wrong…
Hitting high also means you will get hit by standing jab, thus resulting in a brain freeze into god knows what happened. I wouldn’t plan to hit her early.
Remember we were playing some time back and I was using standing jab to hit you after all your dive kicks? Didn’t that frustrate you? Granted it did no damage but it’s there.
I’m gonna try to pick up more characters. Namely Yun/Yang and Urien. That’s right, Urien.
Does anyone know how the character rankings are now? I just finished reading Billy Kane’s post on SBO and he mentioned that Oro is now ranked #7, and Hugo is on the rise. Have I been out of it that long? Top characters apparently are still Chun Li and Yun.
My rankings…(i dont care what anyone else says…I’m right:p )
TOP---------------
Makoto
Ken
Yun
Chun
Urien
everyone else…
thats my top tier in order…I think there are a lot of characters who can compete for upper middle tier (dudley, ryu, oro, hugo, necro, etc…) but that doesnt really matter
its hard to get a good grip on that match and describe it well…because any good Makoto player is always going to keep mixing it up…if Makoto keeps mixing it up and stays one step ahead of her opponent…she wins…
if she slack off and gets lazy with the mind games she loses…its a simple as that…
i.e. -> you said “Ken should recognize Makoto’s ticks, and DP his way between the tick-throw.” Tuna, you know damn well that if someone does this to you once, you’re not going for the throw the next time…or are you?! mind games… The point is that there are no absolutes in a match up against Makoto. There is no one thing that you can do in any given situation to keep you safe 100% of the time…thats why shes good…
i dont know how you play that bitch, i think i would get a headache from playing her…you have to think too much, too fast…maybe thats why she beats me…hmmm
