Southwest 3rd Strike thread: part 2

The comment about having less than a 50% chance against ken, chun, and yun, i don’t think is right about yun, because if you parry low, that will still parry a high jab, which is his main combo starter(screwd up imo, but it does). That leaves only 2 ways to land the genei jin, super jump canceling the standing forward, and canceling off the strong fierce back fierce which will only combo in the corner. Not many people can jump cancel into super on reaction like that, much less jump cancel the super anyway. And just don’t parry down when you’re by the corner

This is from… february of last year…
[8:03pm] <Streak> how come you don’t use ryu very much anymore :frowning:
[8:03pm] <mopreme> i always do this when i lose
[8:03pm] <mopreme> i will start using him again soon
[8:03pm] <mopreme> i am like, ryu sucks, i lost cause i used ryu
[8:03pm] <mopreme> and stuff
[8:03pm] <Streak> no, ryu is strong
[8:03pm] <mopreme> i’m still really mad about stupid evolution
[8:03pm] <Streak> used ryu there?
[8:04pm] <mopreme> yeah
[8:04pm] <mopreme> i only used ryu for like 2 years up to that point

But he never went back, he just plays spastic chun-li now
I guess he plays yun and ken too :stuck_out_tongue:

So you just eat a low forward into Genei Jin on wake up every time then?

Err, what I meant was don’t parry at all in the corner, not just don’t parry down.

Heck… I wouldn’t even try to guess-parry anything meaty when Yun has meter; corner or no corner.

Yeah, gotta be afraid of command grab, walk up jab short strong too :frowning:

Okay, here’s my deal…

I like 3rd Strike quite a bit. It strikes a much diffrent chord in me than the crossover games, I don’t know why. My only problem is that I CAN’T stick to a character long enough to get good w/ him or her, and i’m getting a little fed up.

Any idea’s on what I should do?

I’m from OKC btw.

My advice is stick to one character until you get good with him or her. Pick a character that is true to your heart.

gotta go with twelve.

too bad there’s no saving grace for Sean. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Shoryu Cannon beats out like almost every other super

Fake out throws are top tier.

He still sucks though hehe.

I like Alex. He is the coolest looking grappler in any fighting game. He’s not as good as Zangief, but he’s cooler. More people need to play Alex so I can steal their tricks.

Harvey, are you gonna tell me the frame data on Alex’s stomp and EX elbow slash?

To the 3rd Strike players. My last final is on May 6. Your puny lives will be crushed on May 6.

Oops… Must have missed that.

(Weak/Middle/Heavy/EX)

Slash Elbow
Startup: 16/19/21/10
Block advantage: -2/-8/-8/-6

Stomp
Startup: 24/26/27/27
Block advantage: -3/-3/-3/-3

Wait a minute, that would mean that the short version of his elbow slash is safe. No move comes out in 2 frames. I will try this out! Thanks Harvey.

Shinshoryuken is 2 frames!

Like you’re going to hit me with Shin Shoryuken. You’re too busy playing Ken!

Come to think of it, I think Harvey’s book says that Ken’s SA 3 comes out in 3 frames. That would mean that I could do random short elbows on Ken. Hmmmm…

Another thing, what’s the frame data on Alex standing short? Maybe Harvey should just buy me a book too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not exactly. Contrary to past belief, while flipping through my book I found there are actually a good number of moves that come out in 2 frames (usually supers).

Other 2 frame moves include:

Chun Li: Cr. Jab*, Kikosho (SA1)
Makoto: Seichusen Godansuki (SA1)
Q: NONE
Twelve: NONE
Remy: Rising Rage FLash (SA2)
Alex: Boomering Raid (SA2)
Ryu: Shinshoryuken (SA2)
Yun: You-hou (SA1)
Yang: Tenshin Senkyuutai (SA2 Magnetic Storm! j/k)
Ken: EX Uppercut, Shoryureppa (SA1)
Sean: Shoryuu Cannon (SA2)
Ibuki: Yoroi Doushi** (1 Frame! SA2)
Elena: Spinning Beat (SA1), Brave Dance (SA2)
Dudley: Rocket Upper (SA1), Corkscrew Blow (SA3)
Oro: NONE
Necro: NONE
Hugo: Gigas Breaker (1 Frame! SA1)
Urien: Tyrant Slaughter (SA1), Temporal Thunder (SA2), Aegis Reflector*** (1 Frame! SA3)
Akuma: Fierce Uppercut, Messatsu Goshoryu (SA2), Shun Goku Satsu (EL DEMON!)
Gill: NONE

*Chun Li’s Cr. Jab is listed as 3 but I think I remember it was a 2.
**Must be grab form.
***2 punch version only.

This of course does not count activation supers because the whole idea is to punish the opponent. BTW all activation supers are 0 frames except for Genei Jin and Blue Nocturne which are both 1 frame.

Thanks a lot Harvey! I will now do random short elbows all day on Ken and Chun Li. Ph33r!

How dare Capcom give Makoto a 2 frame super. Alex has one but the throw is almost guaranteed to miss.

Ok, who’s going to MWC to represent in 3rd Strike?

Someone needs to come by and post Necro stuff. I know nothing.

Is there anyone out there who would like to know more about a certain character/matchup? I don’t know what to post if no one has any questions.

I think we should start talking matchups more now. We need more Chun Li players! I need practice!

how bout a Yun vs Ken matchup?

how do you mix up your divekicks so you won’t get dp’ed?
