Sorry we missed you out here, Doc. Only had a small turnout anyway… still, good time though. Nice vid! What did you use to capture it? Also, just so everyone else is aware:
Play N Trade is doing a UMvC3 tournament on Saturday, January 21st for a free copy of Soul Calibur, SFxTekken or whatever when it comes out. They haven’t finalized all the details yet, but if you’re interested, you can find the information here. Nothing too special, but who knows who’ll turn out. Maybe we’ll get an okay local crowd.
Perhaps I can get a couple friends (at least one with a car) and make the trip out there. I hope I don’t have anything planned that Saturday…It also requires me playing Marvel again. Guess I’d have to dust off 'ol Hulky.
I’m sure we’ll have a chunk of guys show up for it. Hell, I’ll even take a stab at it despite my inability to play that game with any level of competency.
Sounds good! Wish you guys were down for a game I actually played. laughs Maybe we can run some casuals after the thing and just hang out there. I’ll have to dust off my garbage, synergy-less team and show people how you shouldn’t play the game.
WELL. Bad news I’m afraid… Play N Trade has switched there tournament to MW3 due to corporate pressure. So that’s a bit of a let down, and also they have a terrible facility to do that kind of tournament, so kind of pointless as well. But that’s neither here nor there. The main takeaway is…
No UMvC3 tournament on January 21st. Pretty weak, PnT, pretty weak.
Hey, just an update here. There is a fighting game day planned at South Dakota State University on Saturday, March 24th for the release of SFxT, and will also have a SSFIV:AE2012 and Smash Bros. Brawl tournament (as well as just casual play) running through most of the day. You can find details about it on facebook at the event page.
There is a small pot posted for each event, nothin’ too crazy, free entry - take a look. Might be fun.
Just an update about it. The SFxT and Street Fighter AE2012 events will now have a $10 entry fee and a 70/20/10 split pot… so there is a little money on the line and more of an incentive to win. Good news all around.
Stream will be provided by Zexerous and Nova. All games being played on 360 will have a dedicated stream station. Please RSVP on the Facebook Event too so i will have numbers to work with THANKS! pay out is determined by participants top 3 is guaranteed http://www.facebook.com/events/354541534565147/

Hello SE South Dakota players, I’m from Winnipeg, MB, Canada and just wanted to inform you guys of a tournament we’ll be hosting in Aug. The thread is over in the Canada section, but I’ll just linkyou to it instead (saves on clicking)
Hey there, just popping in from ND to say hi to you all since the Rouse twins were nice enough to come up and participate in Fargo at the last Cross Critical Combo.
I’m hoping some more of you guys can make it to our next tournament that has just recently been announced for the 31st of August; We’ll be doing SSF4AE and UMvC3. The full rundown can be found here in the events & tournaments forums of SRK: [Aug 31, 2012] Cross Critical Combo (SSF4AE, UMvC3, MK9) (Fargo, ND)
If you have questions, just PM them to me or post a reply. Hoping to see you all in August!
Most of us are about a four hour jaunt out. I think the Rouse’s are a bit further north so it isn’t quite the trek. But I’ll spread it around up here and see if anyone else can make it up. At the very least, I’ll consider heading up there.
I’m from Arizona, but I may be moving up to South Dakota in the upcoming months. I was just curious, how big is the scene up there? Down here we have Team Hazmat, who recently have been getting bigger and bigger.
Also, how many Marvel players are up there? Is it mostly an SF community?
I would say it’s incredibly small, mostly stagnant, and is probably dead from an outsider perspective - not to be pessimistic or anything. The problem is the two primary cities in South Dakota are 5 hours apart, and both are plus or minus four hours away from anything resembling a metropolitan or sub-metro area out of South Dakota. The Sioux Falls “scene” has a lot to do with public space for playing (my apartment simply doesn’t cut it for growth).
There are maybe ten regular players in Sioux Falls, mostly Street Fighter, though a few of us play Virtua Fighter a bit. There are a handful of Marvel players, five or so that play regularly, and a scant handful that play Aksys fighters. So it’s pretty quiet, without much growth. Not for a lack of trying, but it seems that our community fragmented about two years ago and was never able to bring itself back together.
There seems to be more traffic up in North Dakota from what I can tell, and a few of the guys north of us head up there more regularly than they come down here. Omaha seems to have some luck keeping things going as well.
So, probably not the answer you’re looking for… but it’s the closest to the truth.
Is this still going on? I just moved out to SD for school from the east coast, and I’m dying to play Street Fighter against someone. I’m at DSU in Madison, and the fighting game scene (outside of Smash) is pretty much dead. I’m trying to get some people interested, but it’s a tough grind. If there’s something going on in Sioux Falls, though, I’ll gladly make the trip out.
