Come out to Galaxy Gaming and play some Street Fighter with fans of the series. Games include Super Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Other games may include BlazBlue, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and anything anyone wants to bring. If attendance is high enough, we’ll run round robin or double-elimination style competitions. Games are played on both X-Box 360 and PS3 - bring your own controller if you like, or standard console controllers (and some fightpads) will be available for use.
If someone is interested, we’ve been running Wednesday Casual meet-ups every week for a bit now. Small group of people, mostly Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, some Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and a handful of oddballs every so often (Arcana Heart 3, Mortal Kombat 9, Virtua Fighter 5).
Shoot me a message if you want in on it. The thread is mostly dead at this point, so it’ll probably go dark shortly.
Ever any tournaments in the Sioux Falls area? I go to school at SMSU, which is only about an hour and a half away, I think (either way, its not too far). So if there’s any AE, MvC3, or even Third Strike once 3SO is out, I’d totally try to get a couple friends and I to make the trip (provided I’m aware of it a couple weeks in advance).
We had a couple a while ago, but things have died down a bit. We mostly just stick to casuals, but I’d be interested in doing something a bit bigger again in the near future if there is some interest / confirmed bodies. Our first tournament had about 36 people show up for just vanilla SF4. I’d say about 2/3 of that were people who were generally interested in being competitive at the time.
Either way, casuals are on Wednesday - generally we have between 6 and 10 people and we swap games throughout the night. Seems to be a general apathy when it comes to coming out for events on a regular basis around here.
I’m sure its hard to get good turnouts in the smaller areas. Went to my first tournament a few weeks ago in Fargo. 8 people (but at least I can say I’ve tournament experience now >_>). With an apathetic community, I’d assume the best way to draw a crowd would be like a guaranteed pot, but that’d pretty much require a sponsor, I guess.
Regardless, I could potentially bring the entire SMSU fighting game community that I’m aware of-3, maybe even a whopping 4, people.
I’ll see what kind of interest I can drum up. I was told by a few guys from Minneapolis that if I had run a few more games, I might have got a better turnout because a few of them may have been up for the trek if there were more options available / ways to win money. I’m willing to put up some of my own cash to help make things psuedo-successful and have on a couple of occasions already. In all honesty, part of the problem is that if there is an entry fee, people seem less interested. Must be a South Dakota thing not wanting to put up something as trivial as $10-20 for something you’re interested in.
Likewise on the “keep us informed” front though. There are a good number of us willing to travel / car pool to nearby events just for the sake of doing so to get some new blood in the mix. We’re planning on hitting up whatever the next decent sized tournament in Minneapolis is for sure.
I try to keep up-to-date on Minneapolis, too. That just seems like a GREAT place to hold a major. I thought I read somewhere that a goal for a major is to pull in as many people as you can within 5 hours from you. And the Twin Cities would have quite a few options in that range. Appealing to the outside players is where the problem lies.
I’ve tried having fight nights on my school’s campus, but those generally end up with about 3-5 people, then someone getting bored after an hour and either the whole thing falls apart, or we play Castle Crashers. Except the time we played Mortal Kombat. Then we had about 15 people crowded into the lounge of a dorm. About 10 of them were females who just found Johnny Cage to be hilarious…
Play N Trade in Sioux Falls is going to do a Super Street Fighter IV Tournament on Satruday, July 30th @ Noon. If you’re interested, go over to their fan-page on facebook and give 'em a like so you can comment, hopefully get this thing going proper. Looks like it’s $10 in, 50/30/20 split. No word yet on Double Elim or Single Elim, general rules, or platform.
I’ll post a few more details here when I know more. I’m sure the usual Wednesday Casuals crew will show up to represent, so that’s a start.
As far as I know, nope. They seem to be focused on “release day” sale tournaments, and they aren’t explicitly a fighting game shop so to speak, like Games N Go appears to be in Minnesota. It’s just the one game, and the details are light as of now.
Alright, I’m hosting the Wednesday group again, which shouldn’t be a surprise to the regulars. But I figured I should put it up here to show that, hey… guess what… we’re still doing these things!
Despite all the EVO happening, if you aren’t there and want to hang out with some fighting game fans in the South Dakota area… we’ve got a small, for-money tournament this weekend. Double elimination, 2/3 rounds 2/3 games, X-Box 360, Bring Your Own Controller.
This thread continues to be about as lifeless as a hooker in the trunk of my car. Wait a minute…
ANYWAY, things are still pretty decent for our weekly meetups though - sitting pretty at between 5 and 14 players showing up at times, with a combined total of 24 faces appearing. Not too shabby - I’m sure we can do much better though. The next meetup is at my apartment, Wendesday, August 17th starting at 6. You can find details about what’s going on in South Dakota at SD F.G.C. site (which is searchable placeholder for all intents and purposes).
Hey guys, if you want to know what’s up with your Northern counterpart, we’ve got out own site too.
http://z13.invisionfree.com/North_Dakota_FGC/index.php?We’re a little dead too, but I imagine we’ll pick up once the school year starts and I get some networking going between all of the North Dakota cities. Also if you guys get a bigish tourney going, you can expect most of us to make the trip
Hi everyone, I am pretty new to fighting games. I played when I was younger, but i was just a straight masher. I am not much better now, but i would like to find some people who play online. I might be able to make a casuals or tourney sometime. Right now I am just trying to get better at SSF4 (no AE) and waiting for MvC3 ultimate to come out.

Super Street Fighter IV: AE Lobby Night

I added a couple of guys on xbox live. I am getting married in a month and right now have spend most of my free time getting plans set for that and working around the house. If you see me online I would gladly play. I hope you continue Lobby nights, hopefully I will be able to join one.
