I wanna try out this game ,am curious to see how a smash bros type game would fare when it is intentionally made to be a competitive fighter. We all know Sakurai doesnt like competitive play and tries to make the game more random , but this title is gonna be interesting. Its also cool that we got members from our community working on it .
I’m looking forward to balance in the gameplay actually, I’m also looking ofrward to the rest of the cast, the stages & how the mechanics in the game are going to be.
I am looking forward most to the unique elements that are in play (like the super-to-score system) that set it apart from other similar games. It seems to me like a strong attempt at making a unique game, yet keeping proven gameplay elements to make for an exciting game.
I love the decision to accept third party characters in the roster- it broadens the appeal of the game and provides gameplay as diverse as the characters themselves!
I’d like to start off saying in the PS1 era, my family owned literally three Playstations, one for three different rooms. We hadn’t owned any other console at the time. Three Playstations and not one Nintendo 64 or Dreamcast. The PS1 and all its amazing exclusives was literally my whole childhood, and become my favorite console of all time to this day. Spyro, Crash, MediEval, Wipeout, ReVolt, Intelligent Qube, Twisted Metal, Parappa the Rapper, etc. We then purchased the obligatory PS2 when it launched and it didn’t disappoint… However, during the PS3 era, I went with the 360 and the Wii instead… Nothing on the PS3 interested me at the time and, let’s face it, it really didn’t have many exclusives at launch. Thus ended my Playstation fanboyism. :< With that said, I’m mainly eager to see what throwback characters they’ll include from the PS1 era to really rock my nostalgia.
I’ve been wanting to try this game ever since the developers have expressed interest in the competitive aspect of it. I was a hardcore smash player, and have been craving something new and big to play since the disappointment that was Brawl (great party game, but doesn’t nearly suit the needs of a competitive smasher). I’ve been playing Project M for a while, but that can only go so far considering it’s just a fan modification of Brawl. After playing All-Stars at EVO, I started to take a liking to it. I really loved the idea of three attack buttons (instead of one attack button and one special button) and especially the combo system. I’m also looking forward to seeing how well balanced the game is, character wise and mechanics wise.
My friend recently lent me his Playstation 3 that has a broken disc drive, so this is the perfect opportunity. I’ve been wanting to play the beta so badly that I have had my PS3 idling on the enter code screen and TweetDeck modified to alert me whenever Seth Killian tweets a beta code for the past three days. Unfortunately, every time he’s tweeted one so far I was out of my room, talk about bad luck. This game is one of the only games I’ve been hyped for the PS3 (the other being Twisted Metal). If I love and enjoy the game enough, and think it is good enough to hold me over until the next Smash is released (which will probably also be a disappointment), I WILL purchase my own PlayStation 3 just to play this game, no joke. This game alone might just reunite me with Sony.
How can I put this…
At first, I skeptical about the game. Not for looking like a “me too” title, but for the odd scoring system. There’ve been many titles that have tried Smash’s V.S. platformer formula, but none of them seemed as straightforward or as well designed. I’ve tried to learn as much about the system from what other people could say, as I’ve not had the chance to try it myself. I saw the thought that went into the system. How this system allows for character playstyles that wouldn’t work otherwise. How certain elements from more traditional fighting games are being implemented (chain combos, constant walk speeds). How the game is being designed with competitive play in mind. Just knowing some of the names lending their expertise to the project is enough reason to pay attention, in my opinion
Then, there’s the characters. How they’re being kept true to themselves in play style and personality. I love that Radec is a zoning monster. I love that Fat Princess calls elves to fight for her. I love that Sly is being given a stealth mechanic. I love that Nathan can spontaneously take cover behind a chest-high wall (no seriously, I laughed at that one). I love that Parappa knows what he’s gotta do (he’s gotta believe!) And I love the general celebration of Playstation’s franchises, they really deserve it.
Most importantly to me though, is that this game is like coming back to a home I didn’t know I had. Only 3 years ago, I was barely aware of what fighting games were. To me, you pressed buttons until you won. Not terribly engaging, clunky even. But that’s because I didn’t know the thirst I had, how fighting games can be the most engaging test of wits and skill. I enjoyed one series tremendously; its name was Super Smash Bros. In these games, doing attacks and moving around felt natural. In this kind of game, I could just play with my friends and feel like I was playing to the best of my ability. Then Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out, and maligned though the online was, it showed me there were people better than me. My mind was blown and the spark within me was lit. One day, I found my way to a certain website where I saw you could do things beyond what the manual explained. I learned that with fighting games, you can go deeper. I resolved myself to find out just how much I could actually learn, and that led me to trying more traditional fighting games. Only this time, I’d learn how to play.
Today, I see good fighting games as the pinnacle of game design. I’ve been playing, learning, and steadily improving. And so comes Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, a game that brings back fond memories of the first game I remember getting serious for. And they say that they are designing it to be competitive. I may not be the biggest Playstation fan, but I will say this with certainty: I want this game to be the best it can be, because I believe it can bring something new to the table and do it very solidly. I’m all ready to go back to my roots, and enjoy it on a whole new level.
This game should have so many sorts of challenges and tasks to complete. The game developers must of had at great time redefining and designing the stages. Sony has some fighter on their hand I have yet to discover. I need a platform/fighting game that excites me the moment the introduction appears til I power off my Playstation3 home console entertainment system. Good job creating a masterpiece!!!
Playstation NEEDS a game where I can actually play with my friends all together offline, and this game is definitely what my friends and I are looking for. I’m tired of us having to lug PS3s around just to game; a 4 player game like this is perfect for us. What I love so far is that it looks so unique, with characters who are all very different. Nothing looks generic or bland; there is clearly a lot of effort going into it. Besides, I never had a chance to sit down and give it a shot at EVO
I’m looking forward to finally having a good, competitive fighting game that my family and non-fighting-game-playing friends will actually be interested in playing–or in other words, not having to argue over who gets to use the PS3. Looking forward to playing a game that is fundamentally different than all of the current fighters. And of course, mostly looking forward to wrecking fools with Parappa.
Loving how this game is different from others. The go-to comparison is obviously Smash, but even now it’s easy to see how different from that game SPAS: BR will be. Everything about it is a change of pace, from the smash-up, evolving stages (without disrupting gameplay) to the super bar/KO system. Also love that Clockwork, Maj and others are involved so I can trust my hype will not be in vain. And, again, I just love that PARAPPA RETURNS.
I love how the mindless fun it provides can be changed into deep gameplay only by switching perspectives.
Having a dream FGC team involved in it, I hope that people smoothly transition between these two ways of playing and, with that, learn about fighting games in general and how to love them like we do.
I was unable to play the game as the stations were down when I had the chance at EVO =/
From what I’ve seen as of late, my interest in the game has increased drastically.
I’m really looking forward to seeing who ends up being the best of the bunch, and trying out all the characters, if I had to pick a main, I’d go with Fat Princess, I love me some rushdown, and even though she’s fat, she can definitely put in some work
I’m also interested to see as many cameos as possible, even franchises that aren’t represented with playable characters.
What im looking foward to this game is the combo potential and depth this game has. What I’m loving about the game is level designs. I love the fact they mash two game franchises in one level.
what isn’t exciting about this game? I’m a huge fan of the Smash series but ut never owned a system associated with eah incarnation. Like smash I love the fact that (almost) all franchises from sony archives will be represented and can face off with friends in an ultimate showdown. Even a friend who doesn’t own a ps3 is exicted for the game, I know we’ll be playing a lot after seeing big daddy revealed I’m really curious if another surprise is in store?
So again in short, I’m excited for the fun factor with friends and the ‘whos best’ mentality of all the fighters
I live in a small country (Panama) with few people that plays fighting games but a HUGE passion for them and in the last years we have convinced more people to try it. Ironically Brawl has been the entrance for most competitive players right now and I am one of them and I am always looking for ways to promote the hype of the FGC. Now its amazing how so many of these Brawl players now play SFIV, UMVC3, KOF, etc, and I will love to see more people entering to other games.
Seen how this game is similar to Brawl, this game can be the entrance for many new people to the FGC the same way Brawl did and because I am so involved in the community I am friend of most tournament organizers and actually our new tourney season starts next week and I will love to take my PS3 to promote this game and attract more people.
Please help me to make the community of Panama bigger and better.
Thanks!
I Needz diss…pleeeazzz-uh!
I’m looking forward to the competitive style of the game and see how good the meter management is in the game.
Love the character choice and the level designs.
My favorite thing about PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale is that I always read the initialism, ASBR, as “Assbar.” And “PlayStation Ass Bar” makes me giggle.
…
Man, I already have a beta key, I don’t care
When it comes to excitement regarding PlayStation all stars I boil it down to several factors. The first is the character selection and the nostalgia factor. The second is comparing it mentally to super smash brothers (which I greatly enjoy despite its differences from the traditional fighting game. The third is comparing to said traditional fighting game in light of the fact that it is being developed by professional players who are proficient in such games. Firstly, I am greatly excited to play as many of the characters that have been revealed thus far. The character that interests me the most at the moment is definitely sly cooper as I am a big fan of his series and have been suitably impressed by his rather unorthodox play style. By playing him in the new game I hope to find a new appreciation for the new mechanics of the game and mesh them appropriately with Sly’s own play style. I am looking forward to playing other characters such as Kratos and Nathan Drake as well. I would probably suffer a PlayStation fan boy explosion if they included either Spyro or crash bandicoot in the finished product so I am still holding strong to my hopes for that.
From what I have seen thus far the game appears to be both similar and radically different to smash brothers. It is similar in that it features stage hazards, characters from different series being placed together and fighting each other for no clear reason, and in the use of items to defeat other players. Yet it is radically different in its overall combat goal. The idea of having supers be the defining tool in a match is certainly an interesting one and I have yet to decide whether I a approve of the choice or not having not had a legitimate chance to actually play the game thus far. Despite this I acknowledge that it appears a lot of effort has been put into creating supers for each character that support that characters strengths. I will admit to being a bit disappointed in some of the level three supers that I’ve seen thus far as they all seem a bit to similar to each other for my liking. This could be in part because of the difficulty in balancing such powerful moves in a game like this, but who can say for sure. All in all, I am greatly looking forward to playing PlayStation all stars upon its release and will continue to keep up to date with information as it is posted in the future.
The thing I am most looking forward to is level 3 supers, find out what each can do, and how to avoid them. There will surely be plenty of fun and hype around level 3 supers.
The combos shown so far reveal an interesting system that doesn’t look like it requires to be too precise, so I am also looking forward to playing with combos and figure out the most damaging ones.
What I love about this game is all these characters that I love beat the crap out of each other, plus its always a nice touch to beat up kratos as parappa the rapper. What I’m looking forward to this game is more characters that I know to get in somehow (possibly ryu and crash) this would be my favorite mash up as they were my favorite game characters in my childhood.
Yeah I’ve been following Playstation All Stars since it’s announcement. I love the Hades stage mainly because it includes the Patapon. I even made a Patapon drawing that I can show if anybody want to see it. It would be nice to include Crash Bandicoot and Spyro into the game but I can understand if they do not make into the roster. I’m really hoping to see Spike from Ape Escape with the ‘leaks’ that have been shown. I still have most of my old Playstation games even though I didn’t take care of them lol.
I was impressed when I saw the Heihachi vs Toro video. Superbot said that they would include some sort of story and rivalry concept into the game and I like what I see so far. I honestly didn’t expect the cutscence to have that much work put into it. I’m starting to love Toro Inoue more than ever now that I watched that.
I’ve been trying to get into the beta for a while. I was sad when I didn’t get an email for a code and I’m always late on Superbot’s Twitter/ Facebook updates. Congrats to everyone who gets a chance to play the game in the near future, but when I get my hands on this game you’ll all bow down to my Toro and Ratchet.
