IN MY OPINION Sammy and SNK fans are more “obsessed” because the game have good characters with personalities and storylines. Capcom only good fighting game in this sense is RS (SF characters are generic stereotypes and Vampire is too crazy). DOA, VF and Tekken have crap characters and storylines. SC is decent, but too quirky.

It is like comparing Final Fantasy to Dragon Quest, the games usually aim to do different things within the genre and having different staff they usually approach things in different ways. Some like one way and some don’t, the fortunate can see the good qualities in both.

I will never “hate on Capcom” unless I see something about the subject I believe SNK has done better. That’s just the end of it.

It’s rather obvious that you’ve never been intimate with an arcade game before. Have you EVER seen the test screen? You know, where the GAME OPTIONS are? All arcade games have one. You can adjust damn near all the Capcom fighting games’ speeds here, and even further within the game itself provided the cab is set for Free Speed select. You don’t see that much anymore because almost everyone accepts the default Turbo speed for tourney play. Check out EVO’s rules sometimes. You can continue to play for fun with your Turbo 3+ speeds.

Okay I will speak as a true blue SNK NUT THAT I AM. I agree totally with what Time_Stop said, that is true, but I feel that SNK games are more hardcore than Capcom games. For one The bosses are harder, the moves are harder to do, and there are quite frankly almost double the amount of games out there as compared to Capcom, who many say has now become lazy. I also feel SNK’s characters are more creative, (take Yumeji in SS0 for example) while Capcom just gives us more Shotos-Ryu, Ken, Dan, Akuma, Sean, Sakura, who’s next??) Take it if a Street Fighter game came out yearly how many of you might be obsessed with it, or if Capcom had MANY QUALITY FIGHTERS OUT THERE. Many of you casual gamers would be turned off by SNK’s difficulty. I know 100’s of people TO THIS DAY that still have NOT DEFEATED 94’ Rugal. With my Kawa-X Emu I let people see if they can defeat some of the classic bosses from both Capcom and SNK and tell me who is the toughest. SNK wins hands down ALL THE TIME. SNK level 8 and Capcom Level 8 are SOOOO NOT THE SAME. Bc of SNK games I personally find Gill to be A JOKE AND A HALF…because I am used to Igniz, Rugal 94/95/98/2002 Shin Goenitz (96) Zankuro (SSIII) Mizuki etc etc. Yeah and I have to say SNK isnt as recognized here in the states. But go elsewhere to Singapore and Pakistan and other places like that around the world (Even the Almighty Japan) and SNK is very much RECOGNIZED. I wish the fanbase was bigger around here…but sad thing is it aint. I think Orochinagi Forums needs to make an SNK version of EVO…I’D BE STOKED!!!

What a good read. Time_Stop himself just broke down why assholes like him and the rest of the 90% of SNK’s fanbase are stuck-up losers.

SNK might have more appealing character designs than Capcom. That’s understandable. But to adamantly cling to their games JUST BECAUSE of characters and storylines, and then come up with immaterial and often outlandish beliefs as to why their gameplay is better than Capcom’s is dumb.

Really, no other type of genre can be as linear as the fighting genre. Who the fuck cares? If I wanted to get lost in a game’s story, I’d play a good stealth/action game foremost and then a RTS. If you’re not going to play a fighting game seriously, you’re wasting your fucking time. Because with all aesthetics put aside, the gameplay is all that’s there.

SRK largely makes a mockery of that for the most part, but at least people here have the decency to stick to what’s factual and keep all that SF/KOF-canon bullshit in the fan forums.

I like SNK fighters as much as I like Capcom fighters. Both are so different while being similar at the same time, It’s like playing a Ryu version of a fighter and a Ken version on a fighter.

Players who prefer SNK/Capcom to the other are very often prejudiced. (Yes, even the best players here, there, everywhere are guilty of it.) They feel more at ease with their choice games/companies and as such will use the standards of their preferred game/company to gauge the others. They may also set a higher standard and also generally less forgiving towards the “rival” choices.
I do not mean it as an insult btw.

I play more KOF and seriously I could care less about the storyline or characterisation. I relegate them to my secondary priorities really. If I really want plot/immersing read, I will go grab a novel to read instead. I am more concerned over the gaming issues.

SNK made a LOT more of games besides 2d fighters… its just those development groups most assuredly dont work there anymore.
Capcom had more teams to work on Breath of Fire, Onimusha series, DMC series, and Megaman / X / EXE series… and even those had a LOT of hit and misses.
I cant really complain about any Metal Slug that was done by SNK, Ikari Warriors, Crystalis, Twinkle Star Sprites… not theyre finally getting back on their feet while capcom keeps screwing itself. A big company like capcom should still have a lot of money left from its franchises to still try here and there. SNK doesnt but they sure as hell are.

      a.) Capcom fighters are slow. You obviously agree with that.
      b.)Players come to PLAY not to be amused by stellar graphics if the gameplay isn't to their liking.
      c.)You can't adjust the speed or anything in the arcade if you're not at a tourney and if you're not chummy with the arcade owner.
      d. SNK bosses tend to be a higher tier than the Capcom ones.

I know very much about the intimacies of JAMMA and modding SNK and Capcom arcade carts for personal preferance. But that's not at all what I'm talking about. How many arcade owners are going to let a customer go into their cabinet and adjust the speed to their personal preferance, let them play a couple of games just have to go back and set it at default again? Not everybody is as keen to arcade PCB's as you (or me for that matter). It is the normal gamer I am speaking for... It might be a good idea for you to do the same.

Metal Slug is a good SNK game, as far as bosses go. Generally speaking they all have a level of cheese to them, in fact usually the computer all together in any fighting game does. They make up for the lack of thought with things you know arent possible.

People who play such simple-minded games for aesthetics are probably the biggest geeks ever. Capcom does attract some pretty annoying fanboys, but SNK’s a master at it. And it shows in how people like Time_Stop back them relentlessly, often by shoving evidence down our throats which nobody gives a shit about.
