Something about snk fighters

Honestly, I think the real reasons SNK has taken over from Capcom in terms of 2d popularity. Until 2002, I’d say capcom was more popular worldwide.

Emulation allowed people to get games for free- which helped build up familiarity with the series.

Cheaper hardware made it more popular in 3rd world countries.

Otaku-ish behavior has become more common in America, which helped get all the stupid ninny yaoi fangirls all over Kyo X Iori slash. Otaku are stupid. (Note I said otaku not anime fan, big difference)

SNK has put more effort into their latest games then Capcom. Admittedly, not much, but CFE and SFAC were very MUGENish, while KOF2k3 actually added a bit of new content.

Note: none of these things have anything to do with gameplay. I actually like the gameplay of some KOF games (98 and 01 are my favorites gameplay-wise). However, a crappy 2d fighter can be a lot more popular then it deserves: look at the popularity of SvC.

Jae hoon I really don’t mind getting shit it’s really not a problem with me; that’s what these forums are all about…

 1. I do? I really wasn't trying to sound important at all I was just voicing what I believed. I sound important? Thanks, I think you just complimanted me.

2...Um... Did you read my previous post? Go back and read number 4 and 9.

3.No that's really not true. Plenty of other people out there have opinions that I thought were right but after careful consideration I found were wrong. Saotome for instance pointed out that when companies do something wrong they should be hated on. He was right.
P.S. I do think it matters how calm you are...When you process thoughts through you head calmly and in a rational matter

your more than likely to produce actions and say things you won’t regret in the future.

Like I said you make yourself sound important. Your just the only one who thinks that you are.

Its necessarily your opinions thats the problem like has been said. Its the way you go about saying it.

I hope i’m not intruding but you seem to be playing fighting games for all the wrong reasons. I find cvs2 to be pretty fun but i also play mvc2. Mvc2 is way faster than any snk game. I can do the motions just fine but it’s pretty dumb to say harder motions equal better play. It may demand more commitment but in turn it may scare off/turn off alot of players before they think it’s worth committing that much effort to learn. Also i wonder why you don’t play marvel since fast and furious play is so important and marvel has the fastest and most furious play around.

seriously though, depth and strategy come before speed, crappy cpu opponents, and complicated motions at least to most fighting game players.

You are in a forum of competitive fighting game players and you are concentrating on aesthetics (cpu opponents, complicated motions, boss type characters needing to be better than all others)

I think many of the players play for the competition not the stupid bull shit.

Svc chaos sucks aswell btw

I also think Hidden dms are a horrible idea, even if you are experienced in past snk games you need to know how to deal with your opponent’s hidden dms. It gives the advantage to the person who plays it all the time not to the new guy who maybe one day be a established player if he liked the game enough. It allows for alot of fluke victories against people that are good at fighting games but are just starting to get into the game.

You’re not intruding Higer-Jin. Those reasons I listed for playing SNK fighting are aspects of gameplay I find most enjoyable. You like playing fighting games for other reasons…fine. They do demand more commitment, that’s what I like about them. It may scare off players but having to learn strategy and supers and special moves for Street Fighter rather than mashing buttons scares off people to.
Depth, strategy, and speed are characteristics I believe SNK has in there games; but speed is something I think SNK applies better in their games than Capcom. However MvC2 is fast though; you’re right. I’m sorry to hear you thought those reasons I listed are stupid bullshit.

Oh my, thought I’d drop by this thread YET AGAIN,…and I am surprised to find it STILL GOING…as Namco would say “The legend will never die” (LOL) Neways…at least there aint too much hate in here like before…thats good…=)

Man I’ve been a SNK fan since Iron tank and Athena, but for the fighting game scene Capcom takes it hands down they put more time into there games so there wasnt anything like cr.A x8 into super and your dead or shit like Kula doing 100% damage.

I mean the games look great but I myself would take some capcom games over some SNK games.

Look at Dick Nose in AoF he was the hardest mother fucker I ever fought in my life. Then we move to Shin Vega(Psycho) IN alpha 3 or Shin akuma now you cant say they werent cheap either.

Alpha 3 seemed broken to me but as for that and some SNK games (KoF) just pick and Choose.

KoF96 4 Life Geese Iori and Andy.

Let us all come back to reality here. Capcom fighters in general are not as popular outside of the US then SNK (besides japan?), a perfect example is MvC2. Where else is this fighter played? The vast majority of people that still play this broken game is here. SNK fighters are generally way more popular outside the US. Asia especially. Check out all the tourneys that are held in Asia, every single one are SNK fighters. I have never seen MvC2 played except for japan… but even they quit playing that broken game. And what? People complain about crappy SvC? how about CFJ? Talk about reused sprites. There is NOT ONE THING in that game is new. Everything in that game is recycled from all other games. The music is horrendous, the only word to describe cfjs music is REPETITIVE, it sounds like its coming from a broken record. One of my friends bought that game, played it for like a half hour and got his money back. Its beyond one of the worst fighters i have ever seen by capcom. As bad as SvC? of course not. nothing beats SvC in terms of being horrendous. But CFJ is definetely not one of capcoms better fighters imo.

Meh CFJ gets more shit then it deserves. I thought the game was going to suck to but besides it being a rehash its a decent game. Not great but it plays well and has a good balance to it.

Even though it probably wont happen, im still waiting on Garou 2.

SSJGouki MvC2 is as popular as Tekken here in the Philippines. It gets more play than say KOF.

Ingrid

What reality are you living in? Because popularity doesn’t equate to how good something is, and citing just two of the worst examples from Capcom isn’t saying a whole lot.

Last I checked, MVS cabinets were way cheaper than what Capcom’s been developing their games on. Ever think that widespread availability would count as a factor in SNK’s popularity? Or are you too governed by stereotypes to organize a thought?

i have a question for those of you very knowledgable of snk fighters. i am thinking about getting an aes system and want to compile a list of fighters worth spending that kind of money on. so far i have kof 98, 02, sam sho 2&5, garou, and last blade 2 on my list. any others?

Those are good choices, but I would recommend finding a way to get your own MVS setup. It could be cheaper in the long run. However since aes’ are now becoming obselete they may lowering in price… P.S. I would definitely add AOF 3 and Fatal Fury: Real Bout 2 to that list!

last i checked VF4 machines is still top in japan. Im pretty sure if japan can afford vf4 cabinets/boards then why can’t they get mvc2 cabinets? besides mvc2 being found in SOME places over there, only a small hand of players play that game, but other then that that game is pretty much dead. To much excuses and so little time to answer, later fanboy.

I wish I could afford a bad ass NEOGEO AES. Thats a great list and those fighters will keep you very occupied for a while, not to mention the price for AES cartridges.

But yeah, check out the AOF series for extremely challenging 1 player experiences and fun 2 player casual matches. My fav is AOF 1, but everyone likes 2 or 3 more.

Fatal Fury Special is considered a masterpeice, as well as the Real Bout series. Ninja Masters is also a cool game, and so are Matrimmlee and Rage of the Dragons.

Oh, and as far as other KOFs, I also recommend 2001 (very slept on), and 95 for the best of old school KOF.

That may be true out of Japan, but in Japan most SNK games are run on Candy cabs (on which most 2D fighters are operated)and higher. You will hardly see MVS’s in Japanese arcades and yet KOF '02 and Neowave are part of the most profitable machines. So, yeah.

i live in a 1 bedroom apt with my gf whose not a fighting game fan…asking to take up some room with an mvs cab is kinda out for me, so imma just spend the money on an aes and slowly build a library. i’ll add the recommended titles to my list. thanks for the recommendations

Popularity of something indicates strongly that it is good.

That is not always true, but in the case of KOF’s popularity, it is. It’s just one of the very best and fun to play 2D fighters.

you might want to look into getting a converter to pla y mvs games on the aes then…or get a supergun and mvs. either way will probably save you a lot of money.
